SATA 2 is already fast enough for read and write.Maybe you don't like the Hitachi brand? Although the Hitachi brand is not so much selling in the market yet i do read some reviews bofore saying that their HDD is quite efficient in performance.

120 terabyte??? nope. the max in production for normal hdds are 750gb (0.75terabytes).... the stuff ppl doing research on that can store huge amounts of data per square inch isnt silicon.

i also heard that Hitachi is a good brand and i would like to try it but wonder if the Hitachi SATA and beat the speed of SATA 2 eh?

according to reviews i read, hitachi sata beats sata2 drives. google around 4 it. or try it urself. haha.

I think speeds depend on the capacity of the drives, the higher the capacity the more platters a HDD has thus higher read/write speeds as there're more heads.

Put a SATA-2 interface on a 80GB HDD (1 platter) and there should be little/no performance boost over SATA-1. However, a 400GB (5 platters?) will definitely make use of the extra bandwidth provided by the SATA-2 interface.

I have WDs, Hitachis and Maxtors at home (80GB and 160GB variant) but can't really notice any difference between them except the loud noise my Hitachi makes

hi guys, in terms of performance, 16mb buffer vs 8mb buffer, will it make much of a difference?

looking at WD raptor 150gb 16mb buffer compare to 74gb 8mb buffer....

For a high RPM drive like the Raptor, I guess 16MB buffer would improve performance.

i recommend either seagate or WD

my old seagate 20G harddisk last me around 5year ++ although the antivirus thing scan show my hardisk not so stable but still running pretty cool till now

now using maxtor 200G hardisk for about 1 year ++ liao,no problem so far with the cooler fan attach to it,hope it can last for another 3 to 4 years

If you take good care of it, your Maxtor might last you for quite some time. The only Maxtor HDD that I had left now is the one which I never used for long hours downloading (via BT/eMule) which requires often read/write to the HDD.
