Not that actually, it depends on your usage pattern too, those lazy bums who always didn't switch off their com properly would have higher chance of faulty HDD.

Ahem ... I don't switch off my system unless I really need to, so does that make me a lazy bum? laugh.gif

I think I read somewhere that leaving your HDD on rather than turning it on or off can prolong its lifespan because it's harder for the drive to spin-up the platters than just maintaining rotation.

Is it true? blink.gif

something like that, when the platters is at stationary state, an extra force is needed to overcome the inertia of the platters in order to spin it up.

using samsung right now. average temps of samsung drives are 40'c. but if u touch it not so hot. about the same heat as my maxtor, which shows 30'c. maybe the temp probe at different place compared to other hdds. i wanna try hitachi, wd or seagate. got 2 old seagate hdds. 10gb and 40gb.

Hi all!!

I need some advise on laptop external hardisk. Not really sure where to post so I thought of trying my luck here. If this isn't the correct place, admins please move the post blush.gif

For external laptop hardisk what brands should I be looking at? And I understand that not all casings support every hardisk capacity. Meaning a casing that can support 30GB may not be able to support a 80GB hardisk right?
Any other things I should be wary of?

Thanks!

if the casing is a 2.5 inch casing, it should fit most notebook hdds.
