thanks for the input.

I'm thinking of buying external enclosure for 3.5" harddisk for backup purposes. The HDD is SATA2 and using USB cable to connect to PC. Please recommend things to consider before buying the enclosure.

I'm using Cooler Master X-Craft, so far so good, with one touch backup, bought it with 150. I heard last few week got promotion, without one touch backup == RM50, but limited amount only.

hi all, say a enclosure only supports up to 320gb capacity,
a) what will happen if a 500gb is attach to it? cannot detect the hdd or detect the capacity as 320gb? if latter, then will the hdd work properly?
b) if partitioned the 500gb into 300gb and 200gb, can the enclosure detect them? thks~

guys... just doing some research on HDD and i found out that there's SATA and SATA2...

SATA is 1.5Gb/s transfer rate while SATA2 is 3.0Gb/s transfer...
so actually when it comes to real life application, are we able to notice any difference on this?

maybe lets say can Windows XP boot up time improve significantly when change from SATA to SATA2?

is SATA3 available now?

thanks!

I reckon External HDD can support more than 1TB.

If it won't, then there won't be Western Digital's Book and Maxtor's Lacie something which comes in 500gb, 750gb and recently 1TB.

However, I do wonder why companies are still manufacturing Parallel ATA hard disk since they are so keen in phasing out those. These days only external hdd uses PATA, all internal HDD are SATA or would be SATA2 by now.

I am going to get a 500gb Western Digital HDD or Seagate. Don't really understand why Seagate is way more expensive than Western Digital here. While in Aussie it is price exactly the same for both WD and Seagate.
