I got 1 very old 200Mb HardDisk from Western Digital (< 10 years.). Still can be use although now I just keep it in my store room.

1 x 40Gb Maxtor (5 Years)
1 x 40Gb Western Digital (4 Years)
1 x 160Gb Seagate (3 Years)
1 x 160Gb Maxtor (2 Years)
1 x 160Gb Western Digital SATA2 (< 1 Years)

All my HD work perfectly although 1 of my 160Gb cannot be serve as primary hd, but work as storage perfectly.

Bcoz I got 1 very old Western Digital so WD always become my first priority. However, after comparing between both my 40Gb HD, come out that my WD have higher temperature than Maxtor (check with SpeedFan). I set Maxtor as my Primary (Master) and WD as Slave. Put one on top of another. But the temperature diff. is very large. More than 5 degrees. Don't know what the cause, but I think may be the HD placing.

For 160Gb, the temperature almost the same, with 1 degree diff.

For performance, as I use for routine such surfing and mp3, can't notice any different.

Anyone has comments on placing the HDD vertically or horizontally inside the casing? Will placing vertically has negative effect as compared to horizontal?

I also want to know about this.

Read the previous 5 pages so I think it's ok to ask:

What the best bang-for-buck HDD right now? My c2d rig is currently using a 40GB IDE hard disk doh.gif. Need to change liao.

C2D but still using 40GB HD. You must be kidding. 40GB is not enough for me. Installation of program already took half of it.

Go search in the garage sale. There you can get new hd with very cheap price.

I always budget below RM250 when buying a new HD. So, depending on time, last time your 40gb also cost RM250. But now you can get 320Gb.

I just wondering, if the capacity is bigger than the risk of hd crash is bigger to, right? No specific reason, just wondering.
