i want to use SATA HDD coz i may swap it to become the primary HDD inside the computer. That's why need casing that support SATA. But i read in wiki that there is no proper casing that support eSATA (external SATA) at this moment.

Got a problem on my existing external 40Gb ATA HDD. I deleted a bigchunk of files in the HDD then try to defrag it. It take ages to defrag it... but the worst part it still reading/writing to the disc though i had stop the defrag operation. Something wrong on my external HDD? hmm.gif

do not defrag a harddisk inside an external casing via USB connection. From my experience, defragmentation of external harddisk is very, very lag due to USB 2.0 speed compared to native attachment to onboard IDE or SATA at the mainboard.

Instead of this, it is better to take out the harddisk from it's casing and attach directly to onboard IDE port or onboard SATA (depend on the type of HDD connection port). Then defrag as usual. I assume u know how to attach the HDD to the mainboard.

wokay... thanks for the input. i'll defrag it using the onboard connection. sweat.gif

hurm...

i already use two sata disk in my pc...
is there is any way that i can add another sata HD into the pc coz my mobo juz hav 2 Sata port only (old mobo with 2 pata sad.gif ) - i.e., is there any kind of extension i can use...
if im not mistaken, i came across this article bout some pci card that can be use to hook up Sata Drive!

i have the same issue like you with 2 SATA on the mobo. 1 for HDD, 1 for DVD-RW and now no more left for addititional SATA HDD. Can SATA works like parallel IDE using daisy-chain?

Guys,

I'm thinking of getting a 320Gb HDD to replace my current 160Gb coz not enough space already and not enough SATA port as well. I want to partiition the HDD into two partition with 160Gb each. Drive C for OS, Office, Applications and Photos and, Drive D is for junk data like movie, tv series, anime, games etc. The old 160Gb to back-up and replicate Drive C.

Can this work?

thanks for the input.

I'm thinking of buying external enclosure for 3.5" harddisk for backup purposes. The HDD is SATA2 and using USB cable to connect to PC. Please recommend things to consider before buying the enclosure.
