I want to ask..is it good to buy those oem drives in lowyat? Are those oem brand new or has it been used before? I know there is a manufacturing date but most are ~4 months.

my 3-yr old 80GB PATA WD HDD starts making squeking noise when it's on. the noise is more annoying and louder than my case fan. i run HD Tach. OMG, the burst speed is only 25MB/s. why so low?
so, i run the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostic tool and run the full scan on it. but the results are OK. i'm very worried about losing my data should the HDD failed suddenly.

what's happening to my HDD?

Recommend whteva brand (Seagate/Hitachi,WD,Samsung,Fujitsu) but no Maxtor.
I know Samsung/WD run cooler than other.
