why don't you try installing the rail at a lower position?

u can go to hardware shop to buy a plastic white col plug, don't know what it call. Tell the shop that u want to screw something into plster ceiling or partition, the plug is around RM0.30/ pc.

This design is meant for railing to install on the ceiling (plaster ceiling) Your plaster ceiling guy should / already have reinforce that section for railing.

If you have kid(s) like to pull the curtain like "tarzan" it will drop and damage the ceiling eventually.

haha, normally i call it butterfly.
have to make sure your curtain is not thick and heavy if u use this plug

normally if ppl use this pelmet design for curtain, they will ask the plaster ceiling guy to add a timber on top of plaster ceiling, so that can straight screw into the timber above. nod.gif

Why not just get nice looking rails instead of those aluminum (old fashioned eyesore type.
If like that you can install the rails lower and if appear when you open the curtain, it do not look bad.

Not difficult to take out. I am adopting this design in my living hall now. Mine is 2 layers some more.

If you worry, you can ask your ceiling contractor to reinforce the area that you wanna put your rails. Normally they add a piece of timber behind the plaster board.

So, this design of hiding the railing, what do you tell your plaster contractor when you wanna do this?

its a recessed curtain niche. prior to screwing up n skimming the ceiling boards, they shouldve put timber plank/metal piece on top of the ceiling board and its metal frame for the curtain track to be screwed onto for a firm and secure hold. without that it just wont be able to last, afew pulls with the curtains or using a heavier fabric, and u will see screws losing grip on the plaster board or even the metal frames.

a pelmet is different. it is like a piece of panel, down from the overall ceiling height to cover the track. usually used to maximise low ceiling height.

for my case, the plaster ceiling contractor did not put any timber on top of ceiling board....he say can tahan....

then i went to curtain shop to get advise, they also say just screw to plaster ceiling with helicopter screw....i asked them, can last or not...they say no worry as they've installed quite many times.....

You have to dismantle the plaster syiling for that part only, install the railing, and then, put back.. probably, a new plaster ceiling.

It's a costly approach, but I believe, putting the plaster ceiling back won't be that expensive since all they need to do is screw the plaster board to the ceiling (to it's original rail on the ceiling) and apply the plaster compound..
