If your DIY deals with cutting metal and pipes, it will be useful.
If it involves wood then not much use.

Depending what you want to cut, a sabre saw can do similar task too.
I didn't buy this because until now I can't find a use for it in my DIY... Sometime a dremel can do a similar job on smaller scale.

Some interesting video regarding the history of power tools. A good watch to know how some of the popular power tool brands started their company.

from a local shop/wholeseller etc.. look for the shops that specialist at sells doors, wood and plastic.
they will also sell all sorts of chipboards, plywood, typical cabinet making stuff.
priced better then your typical hardware store
my shop is located in an industrial area in taiping.

6*8feet 16mm double side laminated white colour RM90 not sure about gst tho.
if require wood look/colour then its RM133-135, need to order it take about a week to arrive.
other more fancy laminate design cost RM150-170.

I can even use the shops table saw too, but cant cut anything longer then 8ft. and they dont have a circular saw, hence i am looking for a cheap one now.
Skill circular saw is around RM250-260 local
Gemfive after lousy 15% discount is about RM220.

Im tempted to get a cheap chinese ones for around RM100-150 maybe from Mr DIY. as i will not be using it much.
The way i think is its only a saw, not much moving parts compared to a hammer drill.
*
If you buy cheap circular saw, check the quality of the blade.
Low quality blade will get dull fast. Should not be a problem if you dont use it often.

Guys, I notice not all power tool come with the carry case. What do you guys use to store and carry your tools ?
*
Usually just some plastic tool box sold in hardware shop or Mr DIY, or even cloth bags.
Better branded powertools come with matching toolbox and inserts.

If you're good at woodworking you can even build your own custom toolbox.

any idea about Okatz?
this seller has sold many units and google seems to recognize them as legit jap tools

http://www.lelong.com.my/okatz-3-in1-rotar...6-12-Sale-P.htm

probably better then your typical Wess, Dong Cheng , DCA brands....
*
Looks just like another normal china made tool to me...
Even popular brands like Bosch and Milwalkee also got china made tool also.

This kind of tool you need to really handle it to know whether its good or not but for house DIY job many china made already good enough.

You're not drilling 200 holes in concrete everyday right?

Walauweh... the "WESS" brand looks just like a sticker on the drill. shocking.gif

I believe many of those "other brand" powertools are from same group of factories, just with different logo on it.
Sometime I look at those drills and have that.. hmm.. got bosch feel, hmm.. got makita feel etc... biggrin.gif

Showing the picture of my first wood cut using Bosch 10.8V cordless circular saw. All the while I did cuts using jigsaw.
I am reusing some wood from "buy but unused" ikea furniture to make a footstool for my computer desk.

The good thing about circular saw, I can do cuts right on the table because circular saw does not require large clearance on the bottom of the cut wood like a jigsaw.
Attached Image

The cut using circular saw is so straight!!! I admit I can never cut this straight freehand using jigsaw. The cut is smooth too.
Attached Image

Crosscut at 90 degree of wood grain does not make very smooth cut, I think I will need saw blade with more teeth.

Need to go visit CT tomorrow...

Only drawback is cannot cut 2x4,which is 50 mm thick...
*
If want to cut 2 x 4 i will take out my 18v jigsaw.
Keeping straight in short distance of 4 inch still doable.

Showing my DIY worktop version 1, in a small 11x8 room.
Still very simple with folding table hahaha. blush.gif
Will gradually build it up as I progress on.

Same like my wan. The cutting depth is not enough. Just 25mm. Wonder can put a larger blade.

It is very handy tools.

Yes, 10.8v tools are very handy for small projects, no cables dragging here and there too.

I had seen banner of this brand hanging on the metal shop near my house.
atkc carries quite a selection of work tools. The cutter you wanted is also in the list.
Price is cheaper than Bosch & Makita...

most power tools blades, discs are universal, and some brand like worx design their power tool to accept different

style of attachment blades, for example the works multi cutter.

just now i mentioned the wu420, it seems the blade size is the same as those from bosch gks and makita now,

so all can be used, only thing is worx also gives you a metal and ceramic cutting blade 85mm, i think bosch gks

doesn't have these blades ??
*
Currently the Bosch GKS 10.8v has only one blade. sad.gif

Size maybe the same, but the connection part would be a question.
That's why I prefer test it on the shops in this case.
And before you bring up the price buying online sure cheaper than buying from shop, I will say you are right and wrong.
Like recently surveyed the price of corded Bosch circular saw, GKS 66X from the shop cost rm530 and found in Gemfive and Lazada selling cheaper at rm460-500. No doubt it is cheaper, but without parallel guide and dust extractor attachment which cost about rm100-150.
*
Strange thing is, even the bosch's official web site does not mention anything about the parallel guide and vacuum adapter.

http://www.bosch-pt.com.my/my/en/hand-held...06016761l0.html

Check what was included in the GKS 10.8v, Bosch Malaysia web site says it comes with 3 jigsaw blades.
Why bundle jigsaw blade in a circular saw product? shakehead.gif

But what you said is true, I went to CT and seen the rotary hammer does not come with L-boxx, its just a normal plastic box. In the web site it says L-boxx-2.

Won't be surprise if china have so many blades.
For the manufacturer's POV:
1) Blades that pass QC will go to Bosch, Makita, Worx etc
2) Blades that does not pass QC but still usable will stamp own OEM brand and sell as alternatives.

luck always comes and goes around...yours could be next  biggrin.gif

if buying using cold hard cash, it's either these 2 place....

1. hupseng hardware in seri kembangan
- this shop offer the lowest price generally. what you see in their online website is the final price already. they won't entertain any negotiation at all. generally their price is lower than others ( ct hardware / corated and others ). they had been Bosch dealer for more than 10 overs years.

2. atkc in banting
- their Bosch dealership is quite new maybe less than 3 years. go there and talk to the boss directly ( very well spoken and very friendly and knowledgeable chap thumbsup.gif  ). he will offer you the 'better' price compare to others but won't disclose out publicly.... brows.gif.

hope this info helps !

maybe others can share others shop which could offer a better price  smile.gif
*
Thank for the guide. thumbsup.gif
Btw both shop is so far...

I'll probably go to atkc one day to get some 2x4 resak wood to build a proper small flexible workbench for my small craftroom.
Still trying to figure out how to handle the dust in such a small room 8' x 8'. Maybe just buy a blower and blow everything out from the window...

1. air cond ( need regular maintaining ), no fan as don't want the dust flying around...
2. bosch Gas 11-21 wet and dry vacuum ( plus the powertool attachment adapter ). just attach your powertool with this while working on it. this is more practical than invest in those industrial dust collector which could easily cost above thousand and with 8 x 8 you don't have more room to place it too...( unless you so hardcore spending 8 hours daily on woodworking, than get the proper dust collector )
3. keep all tools / accessories above table level ( with shelving )
4. keep under table level clean without much stuff...so you could easily vacuum it off with your cordless 18v vacuum.
5. get a good working masks and earmuff when working in a small enclosed work area.

btw, how i wish i could spare a small room exclusively for diy work like you do.. cry.gif
*
Well...
1) aircond, already have in the room
2) dust collector, still thinking getting a good vaccum or a proper dust collector. Some 1HP model dust collector does not seem that big size, but I dunno how loud it is. Btw I am not working 8 hours on wood everyday. 1 week got 8 hours maybe lar. Spend some time in the craftroom after work at night.
3) shelfs, this one has to gradually plan but I don't forsee to have lots of tools.
4) should leave at least 20cm sapce at bottom of table when building the tables...
5) masks and earmuff already have, even the impact driver sound so noisy in a small room...
6) Big sawing work will be done outside under car porch. This room probably can handle up to 4-5 feet length wood.
7)Due to small room I try to keep the tools cordless to avoid wires everywhere.
8)Will not be hammering too much as the knocking noise will disturb neighbors. Mostly will use screws.

Here is some of my preliminary plans for craftroom and some worktops.

In your room design, I have to hold the tool with my left hand to cut thing, which is not suitable for me as I am right handed.

Btw, some OEM dust collector is quite cheap. Wonder will it work well or very noisy?
Most fine dusts will be blown out through the window during dusty work time.

Some more configuration of the craft room. The workbench is with wheels so it can move around as required.
With metre saw/table saw

This dust collector are very noisy. Put in the room is crazy. Not just the noise echoing the whole room, the air blow out will cause the dust like taufan in the room. biggrin.gif

The dust collector have to put outside and hose in.

If the job is not heavy or a lot, get an industry vacuum and a multiple option hose connection to the tools. Vacuum off the remaining when finish the job.
*
Hmm... if the DC really so noisy then I should consider build a small shed at the backyard to store it (outside window is my back yard).

But I don't really want to dig a 4 inch hole on the wall..
