Went to cimb today and confirmed with 3 different officers that both conventional and Islamic basic savings account come with atm withdrawal only. They give you a mastercard debit card which acts as your atm card but the Mastercard debit card function is deactivated, which means that you can't use it for online purchases. I have yet to try whether the debit function works. All 3 officers looked a bit confused and  just read from their cheat sheet so I wanna confirm whether you managed to use the debit mastercard for online purchases.

In order to use your card for withdrawal and the Mastercard functions, you would need to activate it first.
Just call Maybank Customer Service number [1-300-88-6688],

press 1 for English,
press 4 for ATM, Debit Card.

Ignore the notifications to put in T-pin and access number, and after three times repeating,

press 0 to speak to the representative.
The you would need to go thru the identification process [e.g. full name, NRIC, card #, account #] so have it ready before calling.
Once done, they will activate it for you

Oh ya, you have to indicate where you are going [country name would suffice], and duration of stay.
As for Indonesia [as of today that is, charges may change],
You can use any ATM machines with Cirrus logo.
You will be charged RM12.72/withdrawal. <-- But if you could find BII [Bank International of Indonesia], No charge incurred.

Exchange rate, is spot rate [date of transaction].

Are there any charges for holding a Maybank debit card?

Not for rhb. I've complaint to the branch that I don't wish to get debit card and I only need an ordinary atm card. Why they have to force their customer to pay up something that they don't wish for(the freaking RM20 annual fee).They seem can't find solution for me as they no longer issue ordinary atm. The best they can do is by offering me for a switch to the normal debit card aka blue diamond card(while stock last) which i still incur annual fee of RM8

for most of the bank, staff will say no bsa option 1 and they no have idea what is that.

only few staff know BSA option1 which do not charge annual fee and limited tx per month.

RHB, it is hard for u to open a BSA option 1 and get the ATM card. Cos they will said they do not have the normal ATM card and only have debit card which need to charge RM8 annually. U have to find a branch which have normal ATM to open BSA option 1. U can email to RHB cs to check which branch have normal ATM card.

BSN, they allow u to open BSA option1 with debit card. This debit card cannot use to register for internet banking.

Public bank, Maybank, cimb can open BSA option 1

insist me to get  debit card instead

Do they still issue ATM card now ? Quite a few other banks also failed to mention if annual fee is applicable to Basic Savings Account issued with debit card. For instance, CIMB Bank.

Starting March 2016, in phases, all Maybank Cards will be replaced with PIN-enabled Cards.

It meantioned all Maybank Cards, is it only limit to credit card and debit card?

Anyone request to change the ATM through M2U able to select the debit card type? Or sure will issue Cherry card?

Hi, I made a request to replace my maybank atm card via maybank2u portal. I received the Maybank Debit Card. Can I just use this as an ATM card without activating the debit card? Any kind advice?

Fyi, I still can use the old ATM card after I received the Debit card. The reason I replace the ATM card because sometimes the ATM machine can't read my card then I need to gosok the card abit to make it work.

The 4 free withdrawals every month is already sufficient for me, I don't need unlimited withdrawal every month.

Either way the employee should have at least asked me if I want it or not...

im having public bank debit card and just realised that i had an amount money being hold! what does it mean? is it mean some of my transaction can't be done?

i know the tnc. imho, it's vague and very much to their favor. see no. 26.

spent during the last promo and didnt receive any cashback, so wondering if it's a good idea to try again this time.
