2 years study in Kelana Jaya then you fly to the east coast of Sabah to do your clinical 3 years  blink.gif

I wonder how many more colleges or universities have been given licences to operate but yet to commence operations.

Quite a number of these licences will be put up for sale in the very near future in the name of consolidation.

i have said many times, there are 2 to 3 outstanding licences already issued before the moratorium to freeze.....this is one of them.....smile.gif

wonder who are going to teach the clinicals in the east coast of sabah....

it has the distinction of being the smallest 'university' with a medical programme....and not a single medically qualified doctor on staff, as listed in the website.... tongue.gif

wonderful..... rclxms.gif we have reached new lows....

This may be by way of CDs given to each student and lectures by way of powerpoint presentation beamed from somewhere or by Skype by a little bird holed up somewhere.

We are moving to the DIY area!

The population in the east coast of Sabah comprise mainly legal and illegal (more this, until just recently) filipinos and indonesians. So perhaps there are many "tropical" medical conditions (unique to third world countries) that will be presented. When they force this medical school to become feasible, it will boil down to which lecturers will go there to teach these students.

it is a repeat of what happened to the commercial banks....and the telcos...before....issue lots of licences, earnest money collected, and then consolidate....

we only need 15 med schools.....so there is going to be some serious downsizing needed later.....with a lot of very unhappy parents making a lot of political noises....

Isn't it funny that any medical/MBBS thread that's started here will veer towards the oversupply of dodgy medical schools, ergo dodgy medical graduates.

As the title above, those should not do medicine do medicine makes the situation worsen.

It is relevant and not funny at all.

And this directly affects our healthcare system.

You're right, my bad, it's not funny. I meant to say that it becomes ridiculous that the same issues are being raised over and over again, and a lot are still none the better. Arts students doing medicine is just preposterous, in my honest opinion. Our healthcare system is in doldrums, and when the relevant authority is mired by political persuasions, it will only get worse. Any action, instead of just moaning and groaning about how the system is just horrible.

Reducing the numbers to 15 would be a big BIG step. But lets be realistic, that won't happen. Not when there's politics involved, and with a bit of $$$ makes the world goes round. I'm not condemning every single new medical unis out there, but with a lack of good lecturers nowadays even in well established unis, what is left for those newly established ones? And w/o good lecturers/clinicians to teach, how can there be new promising doctors?

I've visited a doctor back home prob 2-3 years back. This is how he conducted the consultation. I walked in, sat down. and he goes, so what meds do you want? =) Isn't it lovely? I bet he's famous with addicts =P p/s he's not my general GP. My GP is super wonderful, and meticulous physician. =)

Yes, sitting in front of laptops keep saying about the same issue has no help to the current situation.

But at least our voice here can let those who want to do medicine think twice, but usually they dont.

Many years back, the gomen issued quite a lot of tax practitioners licence to one ethnic group to balance up the racial quota after only 6 months training. The end result was that after one year, less than 5% were still practicing and even then these were "loaned" out to other practitioners who were unable to get such licence.

Lets say for medical graduates, after housemanship, the gomen no longer provides auto employment for these graduates and they are "released" to fend for themselves in the business world. Surely, those who are no good will find difficulties surviving. Would such a scenario gives would-be medical students serious thoughts before signing up?

..and this is not accounting for the rest who are not forumers in here. I think the medic threads discussion are not so much to dissuade or discourage, rather dispensing and sharing known facts and information about the course and the profession. One hopes that students and parents alike are able to gain more insight, and make decisions accordingly. If there is another forum relevant to the ones here, please share. Recom used to be quite good as well.

Some are not believing that medical field is not a rewarding career.

Then, the mindset of doctors are always in need is still there.

Yet, Perdana University was launched by our PM strengthens the mindset !

it has happened to a small degree before....

it is increasing now.....

and will be a major option in future.....

doctors are moving away from mainstream clinical medicine into other areas of the large healthcare industry....nutrition, direct sales, slimming, detox, aesthetics medicine, alternative medicine, anti-aging, cancer prevention practices......etc....

if you scoff at this alternative industry.....don't....

the health product industry is bigger (about 1.3 times) the mainstream pharmaceutical industry.... smile.gif

As such, awareness of the alternative areas other than clinical medicine would encourage MORE students to take up med school than otherwise!

It is also a fact that quite a number of medical graduates who excel in their chosen career have moved on to do research esp in big pharmaceuticals in the US. Nearer to home and across the causeway, good researchers are also encourage to do their part with substantial funding and good incentives being thrown in.
