Is there any sophisticated different between Nikon's pro grade lens, those golden rings vs Canon's pro grade lens, those red rings?
How about Sony? For Sony is Zeiss? |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Oct 11 2011, 06:10 PM) Why bother comparing? If you are using a Nikon, you should be using f-mount lenses... and not Canon mount or Sony mount etc. I wanted to know the differences for technical knowledge, but not trying to compare as for what you thought of. For example some of Nikon's pro grades have Nano-coat, do Canon or Sony have anything equivalent to Nano-coat performance?Something similar like Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi have VTEC, VVTI and MIVEC technology respectively. Therefore, anyone care to share the knowledge for lens comparison? |

QUOTE(geekster129 @ Oct 11 2011, 06:49 PM) I think the Nanocoat is purely marketing strategies, I believe there are so much more features to look into (newer) pro grade lenses, e.g. amount of glass elements, etc. These lenses no doubt will give extraordinary color renditions, bokeh rendition, sharpness, etc when used correctly. So called "premium" image quality of what you have paid for to give you the satisfaction in the outcome. Does it mean that the more elements in a lens construction, the sharper the image will be? Apple added another element into their camera phone and claim it will enhance the sharpness of the photo.DISCLAIMER: This doesn't mean cheaper glass sucks. Just more satisfaction from more expensive glasses. Does Nikon pro grade lenses have weather resistance? AFAIK Nikon's pro grade lenses are weather sealed. I'm not sure yet what it to be meant by the "weather seal", but somehow celciuz's 70-200 VRII has dust in it even though it's weather sealed? QUOTE(celciuz @ Oct 11 2011, 06:50 PM) Google is your friend. I know I can get most of it out from Google, but being kinda busy with work at the moment, I thought starting up the topic in here will have the equivalent amount of information flows. Furthermore, I prefer reading people's experience than reviews on the net. Some may have a different thought with it and it could be fascinating to be shared out I know Canon has some fluoride and UD coating thingy. Zeiss has some T* coating. QUOTE(0168257061 @ Oct 11 2011, 07:30 PM) canon using infamous super spectra coating , there are no naming on the lens whereas nikon label it as N. So, does it mean only the L lens have them? BTW, does the L stands for anything? UD = Canon, ED = Nikon Fluorite = Canon, Super ED = Nikon err what else... QUOTE(ikki9394 @ Oct 11 2011, 08:30 PM) Every sifus, can I ask how much does a 4 years old Nikon 17-55mm F/2.8 worth? I got a seller that willing to sell at AUD875=RM2,730. That's a deal if you ask me, but need to check the condition of the lens thoroughly before purchasing Is the price ok price for its age? No more warranty. |

QUOTE(ikki9394 @ Oct 11 2011, 08:50 PM) There is a guide posted in the front page if I remember correctly.QUOTE(celciuz @ Oct 11 2011, 10:18 PM) I haven't seen any brands with lens such as 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/2.8 which isn't a pro grade yet But 17-55 f/2.8 for Canon is not regarded as a pro lens 24-70 f/2.8 non L or non gold ring? QUOTE(hidden830726 @ Oct 11 2011, 10:39 PM) Wanna ask about Video. 20 minutes max per single recording if I'm not mistaken. File size not really sure, but depending on your settings of course. I read that many recommended at least Class 6 and above for capturing video otherwise it'll fails when the buffer filled. SanDisk has a version which is Extreme Video Class 10 30Mb/s which so-called specialized for video. How long i can shoot a video depends on what factor? How big the size of the card? How fast the card write data? Class 10? If i want to allow myself the flexibility to switch to video when e.g. function and there's performance, optimistically, i should get class 10, as big size i can with fast data writing capabilities E.g. 30mb/s? |

QUOTE(hidden830726 @ Oct 11 2011, 10:55 PM) Well, i check shashinki it cost around RM200, http://shashinki.com/shop/sandisk-extreme-...ion-p-4867.html You should only take Shashinki's price as reference for market price. Hence, you should be able to get better street price than Shashinki's.How is this seller at garage selling at RM105? Same thing? http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1810263/+40 Yeah, that's the one I'm mentioning about and I got two of them. I bought mine cheaper than the thread you showed. I also saw SriComp selling the 16GB at RM165 at Low Yat Plaza. |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Oct 19 2011, 09:31 AM) Whoah... interesting topic on the grip... Now I shall take note if it happens to mine or not. So far so good. Maybe its the contact point issue perhaps. How often you guys detaching the battery grip from the body? I would just leave my attached all the while and only use the battery slot in the grip. |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Oct 20 2011, 10:04 PM) They don't sell product there, why do you think they put all the camera and lens there The event is sponsored if not hosted by Fotokem. You would be able to see a large one on the counter, "I Love Fotokem".Previously went go for the MeeGo event with Calvin, we went there to test few lenses. They do sell accessories as I asked them how much is D7000's battery cost and was quoted RM220 Went there today to clean the sensor of my D7000 and the guy is very kind to clean my 17-55 altogether. Tested the J1 and V1 too, I find the "Select the Best Image" function quite interesting |

QUOTE(ikki9394 @ Oct 20 2011, 11:09 PM) Sensor cleaning is free, however they do not provide any lens servicing or cleaning. I went there today's evening when there was no unit to clean yet except mine. Initially I asked the gal and she said no lens cleaning is available. Then when the guy returning my body, I talked to him a little bit and he helped to clean my 17-55 too. Just the front, rear element and the filter. Not the entire proper lens servicing which dismantling them all When he returning the 17-55 to me, he did said it is a very good and solid lens |

Hola guys
Just came back from my China trip few days ago but heck involved in a chained cars accident yesterday and I'm the last one Never expect for snow in China during my trip but it happened for a day and coincidentally on the day of my visit to the specific tourism spot. Carrying the D7000 + BG + 17-55 all the while It rained slightly too during my trip and I noticed one thing, though the D7000, 17-55 and SB-900 are weather-sealed, I noticed the contact point between the body and flash is not and vulnerable to water. I'm wondering now if it will cause any malfunctioning if there is water in between the contact during the usage. I remember there is some optional accessories to cover it, necessary to get it? Another thing, after I moved from a cold breezing area to a slightly warmer area, the side of the LCD on the D7000 body got water coming out. Would it be probably due to freeze contained within the body while in the cold area? |

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ Nov 4 2011, 02:17 AM) When i was in Sydney it rained very heavily and i was happy snapping a few pictures but i ran for cover because my gf ran, takkan i alone in the rain and it was so heavy that i could hardly open my eyes! QUOTE(celciuz @ Nov 4 2011, 06:50 AM) Yes, the contact points of course is not weather sealed. They do sell the hotshoe protector, but I remember it was for D3/D700/D300 series, not sure if D7000 has one or not. It is rare occasion that I'll be shooting under rain. Very less likely happen but there was once everyone standing outside the restaurant after wedding dinner for a group shot, ended up I forced to step out from the compound and was under small rain.Be it weather sealed or weather resistant, they are the same. If your gear is weather sealed, I doubt you will purposely go soak in the rain for the shots. Unless of course you're a hired pro photog, but then again, pro photog with D7000? They are most likely with D3/D3s range. Definitely I won't be shooting under rain, but I'll just ignore it if it's just slightly raining. QUOTE(iXora.ix @ Nov 4 2011, 08:08 AM) I remember, last time I had send email to nikon regarding D7000 weather sealing Rusting of mechanical mechanism... damn... now I'm bit worried of how my gears survived after the snow mountain. Exterior may be fine, but interior is unknown... damn again » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(gnome @ Nov 4 2011, 11:48 AM) Some light rain shouldnt be a problem, i've used my D90 before in those condition and no problem until today. Now try combine light rain + paintball palletes come flying at you. Now that will seriously fook your day if it hits your camera but so far havent kena yet I'm more worried with the humidity combo with rain + snow causing internal damages. While I was at China, it rained, snowed and hardly see the sun. Temperature is like in between 5C~ 20C. Because as I mentioned, when I moved from cold area to warmer area, the side of the LCD screen on the body got water coming out.QUOTE(iXora.ix @ Nov 4 2011, 12:14 PM) The snow immediately disappear when it hits the lens. |
