If you have activator, you can set a double tap on the status bar to bring up the app list similar to a double tap of the home button.

Open Activator, At Home Screen --> Status Bar --> Double Tap --> (Specify what action to happen when you double tap)

You can set Activator to use the volume button to unlock the phone. I use the vol down button to unlock but since I am required to have a passcode lock, sometimes if the phone goes to sleep, the vol down button won't work especially if the screen is off. What I do then is use the power button to wake the screen and then use the vol down button to unlock.

iClarified.com is a good site for any jailbreaking news. The guide on how to jailbreak is also there and even the dev-team recommends iClarified Guides for use.

Cyida or App Store? As far as I know Cydia only works with Amazon Payments (which requires you to have a US credit card) or Paypal. If you need to change credit card, I think you do it on the Paypal side.

Added on January 7, 2012, 12:35 pmCydia does not work in the background and does not work if the iPhone goes into the lockscreen. So if you are downloading something from Cydia, try setting the lockscreen to never and then download. Once the download is completed, then set it back to how many minutes you want the lockscreen to be activated. If you set a passcode on your iPhone, then the maximum time for the lockscreen to come on is 5 minutes.

@figure8, that is good. Will try and get that tweak. I have a passcode on (company requirement if I want to get company mail on the iPhone) so even that 5 minutes is not enough.

Make sure for the initial reload you set the Lockscreen to never. After cydia has downloaded all the list, then you can change back the Lockscreen setting.

Please be aware that installing winterboard or dreamboard on iOS5.x will slow down your phone. A lot of users have reported severe lags when they have winterboard/dreamboard installed. Some has managed to solve it by installing Barrel (USD2.99 from Cydia).

Remove BG is compatible with iOS5. I am using it and I have had no issues at all. The only reason Remove BG may not be compatible is if Cydia is not loading all the list of files properly thus making some dependencies missing.

Because Apple decided that the iPhone 3G hardware specs cannot handle the higher iOSes starting with 4.3

Those who tried a higher version for the 3G has reported severe performance issues as the iOS is not optimized for the device.

Your call though.

5.0.1 also has the 4.11.08 baseband for the iPhone 4.

Activator 1.60 still has some issues. I have had to respring a couple of times to get my Slide Gesture to work again. I have even set Activator as one of the exception for Remove BG but once in a while the gesture will not work and I would have to respring.

It has been working okay from this morning so touch wood there.

Not yet .... will try tonight. Have to add the repo though ...

Nope. Slide gesture failed again. Dunno what triggered it this time.

No need to reset. Make sure you have a clean host file.

Once you pay for Cydia Apps, anytime you restore or update (pending available jailbreak of course), you should be able to re-download the tweak without paying.

Paypal should work fine.

Added on January 9, 2012, 12:34 pmLet's do this step by step

1. First you need a CLEAN restore to the stock firmware. I am assuming you are using a factory unlocked iPhone (Maxis, Celcom, Digi, Apple Store) because if you are using a locked set (AT&T etc etc) then stay away from stock firmware.

2. Once you have downloaded the stock firmware, make sure you check that your host file is clean (c:\windows32\system\etc\host or something like that). If you see any ip address associated with gs.apple.com, remove that line from the host file.

3. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes

4. Connect your iPhone (preferably to a direct USB port instead of a hub)

5. Press Shift + Restor in iTunes and select the IPSW file you downloaded from iClarified.

Tell us what error you are still getting after following the steps above.

The 4s jailbreak will be an untethered because a tethered version (like the A4 devices) depended on a hardware exploit. That's why the A4 devices can always be jailbroken tethered but the A5 cannot.

Yes, it's a similar system like the App Store. If you sign in to your Cydia account, then you can use it for the second iPhone.

Added on January 9, 2012, 1:13 pmTinyUmbrella only saves your SHSH, it does not backup your iPhone. Since Apple is still signing iOS 5.0.1, use TinyUmbrella to save your 5.0.1 SHSH and you will be fine. Use iFaith as well as it's supposedly will save the SHSH & the APTicket.

US Currency, it might be a bit more expensive that what you'd expect by 5-6% as paypal have some other charges (i.e. Malaysia to US etc etc) and Paypal uses their own currency exchange rate. Don't expect to get 3.2 MYR/USD rate .... you'd be looking at maybe 3.3 MYR/USD
