iP4 already jailbroken untethered by pod2g, now he is testing the iP4s ....

It'll take a week or so I guess before he released the jailbreak. He's french and he will be out for xmas soon so I suspect, it'll be out after new year.

TinyUmbrella is a standalone program not associated with Cydia. Google for it and you shall find it.

Downloaded Asphalt for both my iPhone and iPad 2. Also downloaded Monopoly which is also going for free.

redsn0w requires you to be in pwnDFU mode.

1. Charge your iPhone to full
2. Install latest iTunes (probably not required but just in case)
3. Connect iPhone to computer
4. Go into pwnDFU mode (difficult because your iPhone is in the Apple Loop), Just go directly into pwnDFU mode. Press the power button for 3 seconds. Then press the Home Button for 10 seconds without releasing the Power Button. After counting down to 10, release the power button but continue pressing the home button for 15 seconds.

If redsn0w proceeds, then it means you were successful in getting into PwnDFU mode. If not, then you have to try again. If the iPhone is in DFU mode, the screen will go totally black (if it's just in a suspended state, the blackness is not that black .... it's confusing but you'll know it when you see the screen)

Use TinyUmbrella to save 5.0.1 SHSH (no need to upgrade as TU will get the SHSH from Apple)

For 4.3.3 you need to use iFaith as no other program can rip the SHSH from a version that is no longer signed by Apple.

For TU, do not tick "request SHSH from Cydia". You only tick "set hosts to cydia on exit" if you plan to restore your iPhone using your SHSH that is stored in Cydia. If not, don't tick the box.

Clarification - The "request SHSH from Cydia" is for those who wanted to save their old SHSH (i.e. 4.3.3, 4.3.2, 4.2.1) that was saved in Cydia locally. If you are trying to get the latest SHSH from Apple, you must not tick this box. (i.e. 5.0.1 SHSH)

Yes and make sure you set the host file (add a line in your host file) like this

127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

Then start the TSS server and do the restore.

3Gs old bootroon has been untethered since 5.0 (and 5.0.1 as well by pointing towards the 5.0 IPSW).

This version of redsn0w fixes the pointing to 5.0 IPSW issue. Still untethered for most A4 devices.

You can always save the 5.0.1 SHSH via TinyUmbrella without updating to 5.0.1 but if you are using the iPhone 4, there is no reason not to update.

This is an iPhone section but to answer your question, yes TU can save your iPad 2 SHSH for 5.0.1 (No, you do not need to upgrade the iPad 2)

I'm already on 5.0.1 so I'm good but a lot of us jailbreakers are still on 4.3.3 and it's a bit more difficult to restore to 5.0.1 when 5.1 is released as compared to restoring it while 5.0.1 is still the latest firmware (what with the SHSH+APTicket requirement etc)

Wow this thread suddenly become very active when a jailbreak is close to be released. I'm happy with my semi-tether. Works fine and I almost never reboot and since re-springing (which I do a lot) is okay, it's almost like an untethered to me.

Don't put your hopes up. Semi-tether works fine for older iDevices and I found that since last week when I upgraded, I have not rebooted once (even for installing some Cydia tweaks). I respring a lot but that does not effect the jailbreak so it's good.

Err semi-tether requires you to jailbreak the iPhone. There is no jailbreak for the iPhone 4s at the moment.

5.0.1 can be semi-tethered. Just jailbreak and after jailbreaking 5.0.1 then install semi-tether from BigBoss repo.

Added on December 24, 2011, 1:00 pmA lot of tweaks from Cydia requires you to re-spring the Springboard. It's like a soft reset of your iPhone. Sometimes, if you feel like the iPhone is slowing down, then a respring may help you clear all your memory etc and brings backs the iPhone up to speed.

The only thing that a tethered jailbreak asks you to avoid (otherwise you have to use the redsn0w program to "just boot") is for you to shut off your iPhone (pressing the power button for more than 3 seconds and then slide to power off) or by pressing both the power button and the home button for a hard reboot.

My 3G from Cydia I think allows you to bypass iOS restriction on Video call (Facetime etc) to wifi only. With My3G, you should be able to do it via your 3G network.

To other 3G phone, you can use Skype but the other side must have skype too .... native 3G video conference (even with wifi) I don't believe is available for the iPhone.

Nope, Apple's Video Calling is limited to Facetime (via Wifi - having My3G bypasses the Wifi requirement) which is for iDevice to iDevice or any Video calling "app" such as Skype/NimBuzz/Fring which is multi-device (iPhone to Nokia Smartphone, Android etc)

Fuhhhhh. Yessss. Currently out of office on a 6 day vacation. Really gabra without an untether. Will install corona and will uninstall semi-tether.

Downloaded corona. Only 44kb from Cydia. Have uninstalled semi-tether. I don't have a computer with me so really risky to try and reboot the phone to see if corona works. Who has done the test? I mean installing corona and the uninstalling semi-tether and the rebooted the phone to see if the untether works or should I be the guinea pig. Kalau my iPhone cannot boot, will have to buy a new phone for the 5 days I am away from the computer.
