The market always surprises people.. when you least expect it, it will happen and when you most anticipate it, it won't happen or.. as some would claim that as .."we're not wrong, we just too early". laugh.gif

need your guys help on my experiment. i tested out small contract on hedging via straddle/strangle but to no avail.

Initially opened ATM straddle, then let say today Call leg is making money but Put (let say net $100). Then, the chart start to reverse or no reverse, immediately I roll up/down Put with the same delta and everything with the Call, shouldn't the profit frm the Call leg (net $100) is already locked in? However, I still see money lose even doing so due to the profit gained from the Call leg is unable to cover the bid/ask spread loss of the new Put?

Assuming the roll up/down is on the same day, hence not much decay or vega (no earnings or crazy news) involved.  notworthy.gif

You lost me on the part about "chart start to reverse or no reverse, immediately I roll up/down".

Can you give more specific example?

Say stock XYZ trading at price 100, you started a long straddle ATM (buy one call @ $1, one put at price $1.., total=$2).
So what happens next, again?

XYZ $100 -> ATM straddle let say premium $2 with $1 Call & Put each similar to above. Delta for both is around 0.50 each assuming other greeks are not much changes.

XYZ goes up to $103 -> by right not much profit, somehow the P/L showed net $100 profit. The Call delta is now let say 0.60 and the Put is 0.40, doesn't really matter whether there is a reversal or not, I want to lock in the $100 profit, so I roll up with a new Put from 0.40 to 0.60 delta, of course with 0.60 delta the strike price is also different already. But the P/L shows a loss.

I was wondering is the lost due to the bid/ask spread of the new Put or the slight vega changes (was ignore earlier) of both Call & Put? Couldn't confirm.

When XYZ goes up $103, you should have $1 in profit (intrinsic) because you pay $2 in premium ($3-$2).
Your call value should be more than $1, but your put value should be below $1.
The thing I that still not clear is the part about your CALL delta 0.60 and PUT is 0.40. ?

When you roll up, you will pay for ask price and bid price to close up previous strike. Yes, there is your spread premium that you have to pay up. When you roll up, you're not really locking in your profit. You're just closing the previous position and opening up a new one with a different calendar or strike price. Does that help?

Really? Can you ask him how he did it? I tried a few months ago, couldn't find any loophole. How did he get past the Social Security requirement? Hope this doesn't sound like a disagreement, I would very much like to know as well   smile.gif

One can open Investment Stock Trading account with any US broker by filing the proper paperwork as posted by netmask8 (see post 2589) directly with them.

One CANNOT open a Bank Account in US without showing physical presence in US.

Two different things.. Apples and Oranges. biggrin.gif

Also, if you want a cheap way to transfer money to your US trading account and you are in no hurry to trade, just mail them a cheque. No need to telegraph transfer. Could save you a few hundred.. It may take a few weeks to clear but it works.

Same goes if you wish to cash out, just have them send you a US cheque and cash it locally. May take a couple of weeks..

What the heck... AAPL back above $460. doh.gif

Oh well, I went ahead and sold AAPL 450 Weekly Puts for $1.25. I'm willing to own AAPL @ 450 if it falls to that price by Friday.
If not, I keep my credits. smile.gif

No bear yet.. just resting here.. still at top.
Market still got lots of hungry buyers coming in this month who felt left out last month and buying even small dips.

Probably won't see Sell in May... maybe have to delay till June. hmm.gif

Wow....what a bull..... biggrin.gif

Yeah man.. if this is like 95.. we know what's going to happen in '97.
So, we got two years before kaboom. Meanwhile, money printing continues on.. laugh.gif

Finally, weekend here.. managed to keep the credits for AAPL 450 PUTs stock sold. No takers. tongue.gif

Fed says may slow down on the stimulus....good enough reason to see some bear for a few days?
*
Yeah.. I wish too because any hints of slowing purchasing may bring out some bears.

But, I think it may short live. The bulls have multiplied.

Fed still got the foot to the accelerator. $85 bln/month.. $102bln/year it keeps
going until the printing machines run out of oil. doh.gif

Market goes up.. Gold goes down. So, the thing that's working out for me is shorting gold these few trading days.
Long GLL (Inverse 2x Gold ETF)! tongue.gif

Short term trade only. Looking for exit when gold price around 1415-1420, or when GLL = 84/85/

Apple finally has some movement. It seems 460 is its resistance.
Since it (so far) cannot breakout 460-465 resistance, the downtrend started Sep 2012 continues. The next lower lows could be 350-360?  hmm:
*
It could be.. but it is now just a minor pull back. Support still at 428-430. I think the late comers will come in and buy there.

So, far we got a nice 6 trading days pull back here. smile.gif

The dividend/buyback exercise may support it from falling further....perhaps.  laugh.gif

Yes, the floor is temporarily set now at 385 with their debt funding for divi holders and stock buy back annoucement after the Q2 earnings BUT it still about earnings and products cycle for this company.
They really need another wow factor for the growth to accelerate otherwise it will be just like Microsoft.
