safe to say under 2.5k lenovo ideapad y480 is the best spec laptop? gonna change laptop next year. will it hit over 80c often in haevy gaming?
*
At this moment yes... however, by next year it will probably be the new Lenovo Ideapad Y400 (which has already been released) already nod.gif
The Y480 would probably be EOL-ed by then laugh.gif
Nope, temps were reported to be steady at around 60C or so, provided with regular maintenance and care icon_rolleyes.gif

It's an excellent machine, and it does look good, but the display is a letdown. But if you use it as a desktop replacement and hook it up to an external monitor it should do just fine. Temp will definitely reach 100 at load but that's normal.

Maybe he meant in F and not C? laugh.gif
Seriously though, never see 100C in my Y580 smile.gif But yes, it could get a bit warm without proper external cooling solution.

It is for GT640M. Or maybe I'm just used to Nvidia temps.

Maybe because Y580 is considerably larger and thus more ventilation?

Not so much, the GT650M in Y480 can reach GTX660M level when u start to overclock it. Only clock speed varies the two.

In other hand, Y580 have better cooling because of its size and also it come with FHD screen (RM3k model). Cons, heavier and HDD is hotter than normal unless you move it to ODD bay.

Added on December 23, 2012, 12:26 amDell pricelist updated~
But seems like online price quotes will no longer be available for Dell business models... we might just remove them from the price catalog altogether. Your loss Dell laugh.gif

Ayeee, it seems Dell Malaysia decided not to sell Vostro / Latitude / Precision laptop online anymore doh.gif
Don't even has list price for these model online sweat.gif Apparently, you can still ask for price list if you contact its "business department" through phone, and then they will email it to you (what kind of crap is this?)
Don't even has a chat button on business laptop webpage shocking.gif
The best part is they give you 2 options whenever you click on a model:
a. Contact distributors - But only listed 3 distributors, with only physical address, no email, no phone number doh.gif The girl from business department however said there are a lot more distributors (but not listed on webpage), and Dell will assign them to clients based on location ???)
b. Fill up a form, then wait for Dell to call you.

Just don't understand. From click, click, click, buy, (total interactive), to waiting like a ignorant duck. wink.gif Major disappointment shakehead.gif

Maybe Lenovo is really getting to their nerve laugh.gif
TJ, unless sifus here has the "list" from Dell or its distributors, I think there is nothing much you can do tongue.gif

True, I'm not really sure what good Dell gets by doing this...
Seems like they don't want to sell these notebooks to normal consumers laugh.gif
Perhaps by doing that it'll be easier to assign and dispatch the technicians (only to those large companies that buy bulk)?

It is really a shame, I really really liked the Vostro line notebooks, and I've recommended at least 3 Vostro 3450 to my friends and family hehe laugh.gif

Removing all those business models will mean that Dell won't have much options left...

No illegear sad.gif

I rather custom with Xtopic and send it to my bro for warranty since he's at the States.

Better specs and value tongue.gif

My pal got a 660m and 15"6 HD screen for about 1,7k USD.

Pretty damn good bargain for me.

With custom cooling coppers and better thermal paste??

I don't think so? laugh.gif

Besides, the Y580 is pretty hot for a laptop of its class.

Can't stand the amount of heat it generates.

Actually, 1.7k USD excluding the shipping cost can easily get you a Sager NP9150 with GTX 680M. biggrin.gif
Factoring in the shipping charges which is about USD 250 to 400 (using UPS), I think the laptop would cost a lot.
If anything happens (whether it is a motherboard issue or an LCD issue), you still need to send it back to U.S. from Malaysia, so the both way shipping charges is gonna be real expensive (just like the shipping charges when you receive your new laptop).

Well, we never know whether we get lemon, mate. tongue.gif
