mSATA is the form factor.
SSD is the thing it self. SSD can have the regular 2.5'' size or the mSATA size. lower specs use mSATA SSD since it need to combine with the HDD. Since normally those notebook only have one 2.5'' SATA slot and 1 mSATA slot. |

^XPS 12 looks nicer
http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-12-l221x/pd.aspx QUOTE(barca96 @ Oct 12 2012, 06:24 PM) The mSATA and SSD will mean that the laptop will have a faster boot up time right? Yes, faster boottime compared with the pure HDD model.For example, these models; [Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2099[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB [Ultrabook]S46CA-WX021R, i3-2317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM1799[2.1kg], W7HB, 2GB QUOTE(kae7 @ Oct 12 2012, 07:54 PM) 15'' can consider the Lenovo G580 (5935-1025), B950 + nVidia GT610M + DOS@RM1149This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Oct 12 2012, 11:28 PM |

The mSATA in those unit are used for caching, the data mainly will still being stored in the HDD.
The main point for those 24GB/32GB mSATA is to drive the price down, else you would only have >RM 3K ultrabook since the equipped with >128GB SSD Backlit there is, but the normal notebook, like Vostro 3460, Inspiron 14R... |

It depends on the notebook configuration,
For example, currently there are notebook with default Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional. |
