One year after launching Galaxy Tab at the IFA2010, Samsung announced the latest variant of the tablet, named Galaxy Tab 7.7.

This looks very very good!! Even faster than the Tab 10.1 and looking at some video suggests that it has a more fluid and smoother UI thumbup.gif

as a Samsung Galaxy S user, i look forward to this 7.7 Tab as i believe the form factor would be just nice compared to the bigger 10.1 version..

micro SD card slot is an advantage as well as the Super AMOLED plus screen (the first for tablets!)

looking at the 10.1, which is RM1899, the 7.7 should be priced around RM1599-1699, no more than that. if it's priced more than 1699, Samsung will be shooting itself on the foot

anyone knows whether it has full GPS capabilities? cause I only see A-GPS on the specs, which is quite frankly - USELESS

can anyone verify that sgt 8.9 has come out of hiding... samsung svc centre told me, that its out in KL....but didnt give much info of to which outlet@dealer has it....

So we have 3 'monsters' from samsung now; note, 7.7 & 7 plus. I want to propose to my bos one model for office use. Which one is better. The size of note is prefect but 7.7 specs better. Going to read 7plus next. Anyone can help me out here?

Yup i agree, this is more likely the reason why samsung is producing all this different tab sizes because they know apple will try to block the sales of either one or another tab but they cant possibly block all of them right.. Haha clever samsung wink.gif

if you're used to changing your gadgets every 3 months, you may need to cool down slowly. going from 3 months to 2 years per gadget may be tough...hehe

The way technology is moving so fast, I'm sure there will a better/faster/cooler/feature richer device being released periodically.

i too am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the samsung 7.7.

My gadgets easily last over 2 years~ That means I'm still on Classic Block Styled Mobile Phone and also old laptop. 2 years back (2 years 10 months++ in exact) I remember the first touch screen from Nokia, 5800 and few others, not working too well touch screen. Now advances so fast that I couldn't catch up.

No reason for new phone/tablet but this caught my eye while having an eye on Tab 10.1. This has better spec compared to 10.1!!!! SuperAMOLED+ Screen, super high DPI(of course not comparing to phone and retina display), Same proc as in S2/tab but higher clocked to 1.4GHz and not with tegra but known to be better Exynos. However, I'd hope Thumbdrive will work on this. It'll be really nice if I can use a thumbdrive on this (A feature, that sounds to be common, and Is common in those China-made tablet, Uncommon in high end tablet though hmm.gif ) See how it goes~ Not getting it that soon after seeing how samsung product price drop that fast. I want something that last, not something to show off so... Maybe will get it around Chinese New Year time. Few more months to see if better product comes into the market~!!! tongue.gif

But I do agree this is quite a monster when compared to larger 10.1 tablet. The screen size should do just fine for me. 10.1 is a bit too big to be portable. 7.7~8.9 should do the job well but... Another good thing about the 7.7 is the metal cover instead of plastic on 8.9/10.1

I don't think you can compare it to the old tab. Why not compare with the new tab 10.1

It has smaller screen but super amoled. And... It's possible to go for 1699 though. Seeing that it's not launched into the market that soon. Just my 2 cents. I din preorder though. No money TT I don't think this is the tab to replace old tab though. It should be Tab plus that replaces old GTab.

I think 1699 is more for Tab plus but Tab 7.7 will be a bit more especiallly with hd amoled screen....tab 10.1 price will drop damn much. Seem Samsung doesnt bother like Apple who seem dtick with one product for few months like ipad and ipad 3.

Actually I'm still an old tech guy. Bought my phone at around April 2009 and never change a phone ever since. A long live Nokia N82, still going strong and have no sympton to fail me at all. I don't need it to watch movie, I got my laptop for that. Only thing that bother me was web surfing experience. Is 7.7 enough for full web page browsing? I need a hands on it before deciding. I think it's enough though, maybe some pinch and zoom somewhere. Left behind are just Games, Socializing(fb/tweeter/msn), SMS and phone call(receiver mode will be weird but I seldom make/receive calls).

7.7 for Games, I think it's enough as long as the resolution is high enough. I'm sort of bias towards 7.7" but... nvm la, i'm here for 7.7 xD It's weird and tiring for you to hold 10" tablet for racing games that make use of accelerometer, unless you want to train muscle ==

yes i agree with sunny, the only problem samsung lost some potential buyer will be their unconfirm launching date, i sold my tab early this month while waiting for the new tab arrive end of this month. but again and again, no news bout 7.7 yet and i am now planning to go for 2nd hand andriod phone + transformer already.

Yeah seriously the marketing department sucks. Don't know how to seize the moment. Tech enthusiast will skip the gadget for others because of delay and when they launch not enough tech enthusisast will help them flame it and marketing equals phailed.

From a product perspective, the product is hot stuff now and can basically sell by itself with the right price. But as time moves on, more and more products are going to be announced and hence making this loose appeal be it little or more.

From a marketing perspective, it makes a lot of sense to release it now with tech enthusiast going hoo haa over it as it will help spread the word. As it delays ,newer products will take its place. In order for them to gain market interest is to spend more on marketing.

Nice thing there.

Nice for HDMI, IPS. Nice spec there.

Bad for battery. I would go for samsung for the battery life I believe. It's not as sleek too.

You can't compare them face to face. How about comparing SGS2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 which have almost same price with around RM100 difference? 10.1 has 10.1" screen. Should it be priced much much higher? If it's priced that high, no one will buy it. Cannot compare like that la... You're like comparing laptop with desktop. Portability does matter. You put SGS2 inside your pocket. Will you put Galaxy Tab inside it? You bring your laptop in your bag(with a much higher price while less performance). Can you put whole desktop setup inside your bag (higher price performance ratio)?? Hope you get what I mean. laugh.gif

Erm... Personally I think 10.1 is too bulky to carry around. Cannot play racing game too xD 7.7 should be the best size for me to carry around.

I've also paid the deposit. Thought of using this as my phone and tablet. But so far there's no news yet on the availability. I've actually changed my deposit to get the Note instead. I think the size is just nice and you can still hold it to your ear without getting the funny stares and glances.

Need to sell of my Atrix first wink.gif. See my sig below.

Nope. Tab 7.7 got so called RECEIVER MODE. (means... got the earpiece like normal phone. Can put it directly over your ear to speak xD

I would get this cause I can use it as a phone and I don't usually use my phone to call.. I use it now to browse the net and other stuff which having a bigger screen and more realestate desktop is a plus for me.

Besides, I can always get a BT headset...

many years ago i believed in bluetooth because it pratical to wearing it because of heat and radiations but now hp or tablets are way much better technology. no need the bluetooth. if u think tablets is huge, ya i'm agree but if the tablet itself has many functions. Do i need else to bring with? you should ask to urself not others, because nowsday people want the all rounded gadgets. the portability is main factors.

the opening price is about Rp 5.000k or 1700RM, and after the promo will be Rp 5.600k , or +- 1900RM

But the seller promised Tab 7.7. He doesn't have the right to substitute it with 7+. If really coming @ 2k+- then those preorder ppl untung a lot lo. But I really think that is a crazy price. Seeing how samsung can price their Galaxy W that low, same spec as HTC Desire S maybe just lose out in design at almost 60% the price. Everything is possible! I believe in samsung xD

I'm actually going for long term. In near future, I don't think dual core phone price will go as low as single core devices and W is really tempting at its price. I'm looking for an android device that actually substitute my old Nokia Block phone or goes side-by-side with it, and must worth the money I spend on it. But W @ 1699 is also very tempting that's why I need to decide whether I should wait for tab 7.7 or W. rclxub.gif

W's price won't go too low too I believe since it's performance cost ratio is very very high when compared to other brands.

For me, Get W=No Tab 7.7, Get 7.7 = No W. Poor student here drooling seeing everyone around touch here touch there. doh.gif

Btw, how much does it cost just to add a voice call feature into it? Just that extra earpiece? A bomb? Don't think so. I do agree amoled should cost more but seeing samsung is using large amount of that thing in their product line, their cost should be reduced by a large margin. I'm not sure whether they sell to other brands though. Those amoled used in nokia and motorola, from samsung??? I would say samsung definitely CAN offer it at 1.7k but whether they will do that it's different story. Besides, there's no problem comparing 7.7 with 8.9 and 10.1. The CALLING feature is just an addition, not the major thing. You can't call it a phone when samsung itself doesn't even market it as a phone, instead categorized it as tablet. I don't see a problem comparing them here. For me, the voice call is just a PLUS. If you need it, get 7.7. If you don't need it, get other models. Another thing, we were not funny THINKING IT IS PRICE BELOW 2k. There's a seller offering it preorder @ 1699. It's not WE THINK but there is such pricing. May it change or remain when it released, no one knows... Just my thoughts!

hmm~ i have not got the stock ,.so cant sure 100% on it~

but for 10.1 tab - 3G + wifi~it could use 3G for data connection/ surf net~ cant call,~

Guys, I have the 8.9 HK unit, with 3G + WIFI.

Played with it for almost a month since its launch, and let me tell you.. it doesn't support voice calls / sms.

hehehe... nice thing about Galaxy Tabs is their design. Really stylish and oozes elegance. Persoanlly, no other tablet comes close to the design of the tabs..

i am confused now... went to Digimall... was told that end of the month or early next month, Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be released but not 7 plus.... dealer said they heard it announced during Samsung dinner... so which is which?

Looks like it's going for about RM2k or so. Decisions Decisions Decisions lolz

Anyway, the Tab 7.7 is still smaller lah, I personally love the design of the tab series. Let's see how things goes biggrin.gif

I should be below 2k for Prime. IF prime is priced <2k, then 7.7 definitely can be priced below 2k. You may say one have phone, one doesn't. But that should be compensated by the quad core GPU in prime with the IPS+ (why they love to add + behind their display tech... Hmm......) Just my thought. Both should be about same price. Hope so. ~~ Of course I'm referring to Prime without dock.

don need kua.... i heard that SEP SME set after next year only provide 1 year warranty, no more 2 years warranty already. 1 year warranty will be same like other dealers. so i hope the tab will launch b4 next year and we can benefit the warranty period.

Normally preorder is more expensive one. Only in the case that the seller have wrong pricing and he priced it lower than the price when the gadget actually came into the market, you get cheap price. (Eg. Seller offer preorder @ RM1500 then the device launch into the market for RM1700, you get RM200 cheaper lo) Besides that, SHOW OFF lo... You get before anyone else in your surrounding get. Tab 7.7 should have a different market compared to ip5.

To compete with IP5, it should be SGS3 or something like that.

If I'm Samsung, I won't be releasing it that late. Quad core is coming into the market very soon. If samsung release it half year later, Tab 7.7 sure won't sell a lot.

If Tab 7+ sells for RM1500 and Tab 7.7 sells for RM2500, would you guys still go for 7.7?

I based my prediction of 7.7 selling for RM2500 on the fact that its basically a bigger GNote, with a larger screen and more powerful battery(5,100mAh vs GNote's 2,500mAh).

The RRP for Tab 7+ is listed at RM1699. I do agree that 7.7 will be >2k. To me it is still the same, i will buy whichever launched in the market first

T Prime use gorilla glass, not stated in 7.7 specs (gsmarena)

Also using Quadcore procc..

I'm also waiting for 7.7 to pair with sgs2,

IPS isn't a bad screen after all but SAmoled+ got pure blackness and is more energy saving *just my thought* because it fully switch off each pixel to display black. I think that saves energy tongue.gif Anyway, I wanted 7.7 because I think 10" is too bulky. See how it goes before I go to lowyat area to molest all these new tablets

TP has keyboard, 7.7 has 3G

android 3 is a failure which drop telephony and many tablets that designed for android 3 drop 3G altogether since no telephony

7.7 is back with all the good things that samsung drop in its 10.1 and 8.9

bear in mind that tab 7.7 also running honeycomb at the moment and it have telephony function

btw huawei mediapad which is on android 3.2 is able to mae phone call/sms after upgrading firmware and install the apk file...

Nah... It can't be on par. Mind you check out Tegra 3 SoC spec. Quad core cortex A9 (means 2x the one in 7.7) with fifth core that is used when all other cores are shut down in standby mode/low load mode to save battery. The GPU, 12 cores. Macam many compareeeee~~

if u read my previous post properly, you'll noticed that i said quadcore is TP main adv.
honestly, how many apps/ func that are going to fully use/push 1.4 dualcore to the max,
let alone quadcore

3G, call func are major adv for me.
yes, in big city, wifi always available.. mostly on restaurant that you'll have ti buy their drink,
on the road? blk kampung?

& yes for me, as a whole, they're on par.
so, my major concern are only their availability & prices

also. samoled+ is no battery saver,
my sgs2 can testify to that..

Haha me too. i played with 7plus yesterday and i think it's too small for me (and 10.1 is too big and heavy). i've booked 8.9 just now and it'll get it in 2 days time. when 7.7 really come out,will consider to trade in my 8.9 for 7.7. hihi icon_rolleyes.gif

Spent 20 mins to test on the 7+ on 1080p MKV movie playback, OMG, so lagging !! doh.gif

VitalPlayer + MKV file stored in 8GB MicroSD class 2 (may be this will be the bottleneck) hmm.gif

Anyone can share more on the testing outcome with class 6 or 10 MicroSD ?

the apps and the microsd might be the contributor of the lagging... So far the best apps for mkv is moboplayer (free) and diceplayer (trial & paid)... and for decent playback might need class4 and above...

Dont be surprised that even Class4 might suffer the same, but no to the same extend...

Tested with a friend who sent me a 500MB 8min 720P MKV. He kept telling me his S2 stutter once in a while compared to the smooth playback on my Note. I told him its the slow memory as I had Class 10. He copied it into the faster internal memory and indeed the stutter was gone. I think Class 6 and above possibly enough.

All three are thin and light enough for me. 7+ is too small but quite nice factor. 8.9 is a bit too big but also quite nice form factor. 10.1 is too big but is nice for movies. Anyway... Technically, 7.7 and 7+ is very same. 7.7 is just 0.2GHz higher clock but 7+ resolution isn't HD, quite much lower resolution should stress the SoC less right? Theoretically, 7+ shouldn't lag in any aspect especially in the UI. Scrolling from one page in homescreen to another page is really not as up to my expectation. Wonder how 7.7 will be. It's weird... When galaxy note can take all that easily with no lag(but on gingerbread instead of honeycomb), why tab 7 plus can't? doh.gif

Btw, lowyat SEP said 7.7 will be here next year.

lagginess might be due to the software itself as some of the driver might be coded nicely between os n hardware...

7 plus has just 170ppi, which is just 3ppi higher than my current nokia n82, 167ppi. For me, it's quite low. Would like a higher pixel density. Wait wait waitt 7.7 blush.gif

yeah its quite low if compare to 7.7... but not everybody affords to get 7.7 when its price tag morw than 2k....

If you see in previous post... alot of ppl have to reconsider their choises if the price tag more than 1.8k.....

Resolution+samoled+ is a great feat but... with such price tag... it let a lot of ppl down...

hopefully it will be like galaxy note... when ppl speculate 2.5k... eventually its 2.3k (if not mistaken since I didnot watch note first release price)

Will only get 7.7 if the wifi version available together with the 3g version (which impossible) or 1q 2012... if by then not in the market... then have to get 7+ which hopefully the price a bit reduce... happy.gif

It's not about the super amoled but more to screen resolution and processor speed. Watching a 1080p movie will be more smoother and satisfying.

Aus 7 plus Rm 1750 and 7.7 RM2020

Iffffff we assumed the prices for both follow the flows.

Since 7 plus is RM 1650 market price , 7.7 would be in the Rm 1900-2000 region or cheaper.

iPad2?? A bit too late for iPad2 right... and iPad2 is in a different size category. Seems to make more sense to get 7+ or 8.9. If you're considering iPad2 size... then 10.1 is what you should be looking at, not 7.7.

Yup... although the screen is 7.7 but Gnote have the Pen and better Camera than the 7.7... If price 2299, it will killing 7.7 before it launch.

But 7.7 is AMOLED PLUS Note only AMOLED, almost 50% less subpixel. But pixel density is higher on Note if referring to full pixel. If you don't get me, google biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

No no, you're wrong. Both Super Amoled. One got Plus one No Plus. And I believe if you got two of the same screen size side by side you'll notice the difference.

I know what you mean but I truly believe a screen isn't cost that much. I remember someone disected ip4 and priced each part. Forgot how much the screen is but it isn't cost much, and the whole thing cost like 10% of the selling price of ip4. If you get what I mean, this is just the matter of how much they would earn. They can basically sell them as the same thing (referring to SA and SA+) for the same price, just they'll earn less. The pen won't cost much too. yes... the cost might be 10%... Pen won't cost much as the patent... but it still additional cost compare to a mass production samoled+ since as I said a few device use SAMOLED+... and I remembered that Samsung partner/ work together with WACOM for the screen & software so it would be precise when using pen... this type of partnership is an additional cost compare to a large screen samoled+ happy.gif

Other specs of 7.7 also mass production already thus the 10% cost should be much cheaper than GNote.

The things that in GNote that not in others.
- Pen
- screen & software (work together with WACOM)

The things that in 7.7 that not in others.
- 7.7 inch SAMOLED+ (the process to make the screen using the same item only its in 7.7)

Today I went to 1U and when I reach Jusco, I saw they advertised 7.7 for RM1,699 on a small desktop stand. I wonder if thats a typo cos they dont have the device to show. I did not really see the spec as I was perhaps puzzled to see the word 7.7, hahahaha.

I think they facing problem to decide the price in malaysia. Too expensive it will become white elephant as no one will buy. Nothing great beside the S-AMOLET screen compare to 7+.

For me, 7+ more better for reading as screen resolution result to bigger font.

oh, if im not mistaken, Tab 7.7 will be using Super Amoled PLUS display panel, while Note only using Super Amoled. Again, it will be a very slim chance that it will be cheaper than Note

oh, if im not mistaken, Tab 7.7 will be using Super Amoled PLUS display panel, while Note only using Super Amoled. Again, it will be a very slim chance that it will be cheaper than Note

Read battery test on Galaxy Note, with heavy browsing its battery
only can last up to 3.3hours.. How sad sad.gif

with 3g browsing on note 5 hours. with h n h+ could be better. 3 hours must be poor telco signals
