Congrats mate!  biggrin.gif  I wonder how did you managed to convince OZ employers in considering you (despite the uncertainty of your future visa)? Did you disclose your current visa status/situation in your resume/cover letter or apply as if you're a local?
*
Just my tip. If they're a small company just shut up and take what you can. The onus is on them to check and if you get ditched in the process, well hey you have some Australian experience before they gave a shit.

Most HR departments know the score but will turn a blind eye at a suitable candidate to fill the spots in. It's a cutthroat world out there and you have to make your living, if you're legally allowed to work by the DIAC, milk it for all its worth. Australia is full of generally evil cutthroat asians, hey if you can't beat em, join em.

Either way I'm just happy that the AFP came back with my conviction checks with a clean bill of health. Queensland Police fark yeah! You guys are lucky with your visa issues, I have a criminal rap sheet laugh.gif. Now I just have to set my IELTS date before I send off my FSW application completed.

Thanks for the tip! FSW application? Sounds like you're heading off to Canada?

Yeah. Going on 7 years over here, slightly over it. I want to try something new and enhance my skills in unconventional and tight OnG.

Maybe the 16th?

Guys,

I will be relocating from Brisbane to Canberra. Heard it is cold and quiet city. Any good info you can share about living in Canberra?
*
It's a city of government servants and rent can be a bit on the higher side unless rental assistance is part of your relocation package.

Starting work with the gahmen?

If you don't have a PR visa. It is near impossible. But if you do have one, see the below;

The requirements are;
1) Knowledge of Australian standards
2) Australian working experience
3) English language ability
4) Added knowledge / skills (inductions/training)
5) An Australian Open drivers license

Thanks a lot man. How to obtain no 1, 2 and 5?. mind to elaborate a bit?haha..sorry for this.
*
1. Depends on what engineer you are, but if you want to buy relevant standards SAIGlobal is the place to buy them.

2. You generally get this from working in Australia or in an Australian owned/listed company.

5. You sit for a driver's license test (Theory and Practical) in a manual vehicle. Most engineering jobs require you have a C license and a CA (Automatic) is not acceptable.

To be honest bricklayer, tilers & concretor is very very short supply. We need to kow tow bricklayer to work. I pay them at $1.30/brick (labour). Anyone who pay extra 5cent, they'll cabut. rclxub.gif
Following are the work scope nationalities i could find who really good at.
- concreting (Italian)
- bricklayer (Ozzie, Irish, Scottish, English)
- tilers (Chinese, Russian)
- ceiling (Chinese/Ozzie)
- parition wall (Chinese/Ozzie)
- cabinetry (Chinese, Ozzie)
- Carpentry (Ozzie)
- roofing (Ozzie)
- plasterer (English)
*
Well considering that a brickie's education at TAFE takes about 3 to 4 years + apprenticeship. It isn't easy I guess.

Instrument technicians who work out in the mines generally do about 100 dollars an hour for piss easy work.

Hey guys, if online visa application form is having tech problems, how do I get help?

Really don't want to submit a paper one...
*
Depends on what kind of error. If it is a loading error they'll tell you to try another browsers or PC.

Thanks for replying guys.

It's not a browser error as I tried in IE and Chrome, and it had worked in Chrome before.

This is the error... basically I can only get to 20% of the application for a 485, then this message comes up and it won't go further. Before last Friday I had been able to get to 100%.

The following errors have been encountered:

1. Departmental systems indicate that you are unable to make an application for this visa online.

Messages:

2. The Department has ceased accepting applications from applicants for Subclass 175, Subclass 176, Subclass 475, Subclass 885, Subclass 886, Subclass 487 and Subclass 487R visas. For more information, please see:

If you have previously made an application and have not finished it, the application may still be in the system as an unfinished application, suggest using you old details and try to finish up the old one?

Or you can call immi tomorrow morning, just remember their wait times are about an hour sometimes, call first thing in the morning and you'll get someone.

anyone came bk from aussie under Working holiday visa?
*
Most of us apply under the Permanent Residency or Temp Work Visa scheme.

A few people I know have tried the Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462) but the outcomes aren't that good as they're 1 year visas and have work limitations.

So do you guys think that's it? The new SOL is ~firm~?

Unsure. But the planned outage on June the 14th to 15th does indicate they might want to implement some changes to the system and roll it out on Monday.

In that case then a WHV is fine. Usually most backpackers plan their trips around work in different areas and band up. Getting a YHA membership and a looking for a few like minded people to start out with you can trust is best practice.

A lot of people try the WHV in the hopes they'll get steady work or will save up enough when they get back which is a bit of a pipe dream if you ask me. Use the visa for what it is for and you'll be fine.

Roma and Miles site based work. Didn't pay the day rate of 800 for 10 hours a day I wanted but it was a good offer.

I'm not sure, might get a competing offer from GE Oil and Gas and that's why I've elected to sign my contract (with medicals and background checks done) on my start date and reserved the right to pull out as I wish in the probation period.

Do they use standard medicals - or you probably haven't done one recently?
*
Each employer will have their own medical provider and you do it every time you get a new job. It's pretty much the practice. The only transferable medical I know of is a "Coal Board" medical.

I see. I've not been asked to do one. Then again, all the visas make you do them, and all the contracts have that easy termination clause.
*
Most resource sector contracts are a bit different. Bunny hopping is regular thing here, the longest lived employee usually only stays for 4 to 5 years tops, so contracts are very very tight and most companies try every legal trick in the book, from restriction of trade, repayment for training, rerostering fees and so on to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Same roster 3:1. A family friendly roster is something like 14:14 which most of my friends with family go on. Some of the unluckier ones with WFT, Baker and Halli do 2:1 or 3:2.

I being the most unfortunate go on a 3:1 rotation but it's good $$$. That's why I still live in a room and have no relationships to speak of hahaha!

I don't know if this is the correct forum.. if it isn't, please suggest the appropriate forum.. I asked quite a number of agents and they couldn't give me any clarification and the immi help line isn't that helpful. So, I thought why not I ask fellow Lowyat here..

I browse through the skill assessment section in immigration website. From what I read, we need to get our skill assessed by the assessing authority. Then as I read further, I bumped into this paragraph...

"For doctors, evidence of full registration is a suitable skills assessment for Points Tested Skilled Migration. We will accept one of the following certificates issued by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as evidence of full registration:
full/unconditional/general medical registration
conditional specialist registration - this registration allows you to practise only in your particular speciality, with no further training or supervision requirements."

Based on that paragraph, does that mean doctors registered with the agency does not need to be assessed by the authority? As the agency and the assessing authority is different.

Thanks alot ya!

Both the AHPRA and the MBA are under the same roof. They're operated in tandem, thus they're your one stop shop for both skills assessment and registration.
