i've got two PS2 consoles that are having problems.

the 1st one's mine, scph 55006, it's the fat version, just that it's white in color.

much like deadwiller, my ps2 cant play DVD games.
it plays Audio CD.
but unlike deadwiller, while he can play the original demo disc.
mine cant play original games as well.

i've brought it to a nearby shop. they said it's problem with the lense.
they say it'll cost more than 300 bucks to replace it.

1) Is it really the lense? or is it the chip? Am i gettin rip here?
2) If it is the lense, how much does it cost to replace it?

The second console belongs to my friend, his PS2, scph 30001, is having a problem with the IC.
Boot up, his ps2 loads the game halfway thru the intro Playstation2 screen and stucks.
Sometimes he boots, and it doesnt load at all.
wat's the problem here?

There are 2 laser diodes in the PS2 lens. 1 for emitting laser for CD and the other for DVD. Since yours can only play audio cd, the diode that emits the laser for DVD is already dead. You must change the whole lense. There are no new lens replacement for fat PS2, only new refurbished lenses. The price is around RM250 - RM300 depend on the model of the lenses. This price doesn't include labor charge. There are 3 models, i.e 400B, 400C and HD7/400R.

The second console also need to replace the lens. Bear in mind that dead lenses are common case for PS2 even for any dvdrom drives.

i got a problem which is pretty much similar to alien@lyn above. only that my ps2 could play DVD movies with no problem at all. but when it comes to DVD games, it just failed to load. can't remember the serial number but it's the fat satin silver model which is made in china.

any idea what is the problem with my ps2?
anybody know a good place in KL to send my ps2 for repair that won't charge you an arm and a leg?

try to play original game (your demo game if you have)
it sound like you modchip fails or a problem with solder points.

erm, my brother have this kind of problem. at first, i was thinking this was a media problem, do i took his gamesave and tried on my ps2, with HDloader.

i tried on the same spot, blank screen. weird. i retired to rebuild his gamesave, the same problem again.
