All 304 SS will rust, is not rust proof. Especially weather in Malaysia and the recent quality we get from 304.

304 is pretty standard stuff and not as anti-corrosive as 316. Some better sinks are made with 316 and thus more expensive.

This is really good info. So conclusion 316 is better than 304. rclxms.gif

So Sorento Malaysia do you agree? From your website, the material for some bathroom accessories are made from Stainless Steel 304. Your plant is in China. Then how ah ???? hmm.gif

That's why Sorento is much cheaper than Blanco. Blanco is using 316. However, whether it is good value to pay for 316 or not is a different matter. Personally, I do not think the difference is that great to justify the significant cost of 316 over 304 for most people.

True. But then again, what is 304 can compare against? Granite sinks? I actually love my granite sinks better than the stainless steel sinks whether it is 304 or 316! biggrin.gif

FYI it is very hard to get 316 grade stainless steel sinks. Blanco is made of 304 grade and not 316 grade.
http://www.blancoamerica.com/c3/blanco_usa...nless_steel.cfm

If u compare King Kong water tank 316 grade vs 304, the price is almost double. Usually sinks and bathrooms accessories are made of 304 grade as it will not rust. However, most hospitals will go for items with 316 grade as they are treated with chemicals to kill bacteria. For household, 304 grade is good enough and will not rust but if u r using chemicals or acids, you nd 316. If you notice, 98% of the stainless steel water tanks that you see are 304 grade, if those will not rust, why will bathroom accessories with 304 grade rust? Reason, they are not pure 304 grade. Sorento's accessories are 304 and will not rust unless your damaged the surface or pour acid or chemicals on it.

Here is an example of something not 304
user posted image

So, how do we know whether it is really 304 or not? You could not differentiate between 316, 304 or any grades unless u test it with chemicals. So, here is where branding kicks in. If you buy a cheap and without brand items, most probably it is not 304 while u get from Sorento or Blanco or Teka, they are definitely 304 grade, will not cheat consumers.

Are this really ss304 or just a layer onto of the metal layer? Cause real ss304 or ss303 material can't be rust.

I deal a lot of ss material. Never see it rust before.

I have a ss plate cover the ventilator fan from rain water for 13yrs. Never see it rust at all. I throw those ss scrap material outside that prompt to rain and water. Never see it rust.

I use it to handle chemical. And it can stand for many many yrs.

I deal a lot with titanium too. Titanium is not strong. But have a corrosive resistance and heat resistance.

But in long run, it will slowly eat up too by very corrosive chemical. But better a lot than ss.

I also using Sorento products in my bathroom three years already, no rust. Since the salesman was already told me, the stainless steel 304 will not rust unless its surface "kena" acid. Thus, I take note! My basin tap, towel bar, glass shelf and etc are no rust to date. Haha, I think stainless steel just like our "girl friend" must always caring. Kidding... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Dear Phoenix69,

Thanks for your question. Basically, there have a few stainless steel that better than 304 and 316 as well. But we need to consider whether it is suitable to our products and the usage of our end customers. Therefore, we will not consider to use all of those stainless steel. Since different grade of stainless steel have different applications and usage in different industry. Some of them are suitable to the application of marine industry.

For instance,

1. Stainless steel 316N- Higher strength than standard 316 and 304.

2. Stainless steel 317L- Higher resistance to chlorides than 316L, but with similar resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

3. Stainless steel 904L-Much higher resistance to chlorides at elevated temperatures, with good formability.

4. Stainless steel 2205- Much higher resistance to chlorides at elevated temperatures, and higher strength than 316.

And more. If you interested, please click to link: http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=863

Furthermore, some of our bathroom accessories are made from stainless steel 304, but it didn't have any link with where we produce it. Because both of them are unrelated. Let say, even though our products are made from China, Hong Kong, india, Vietnam, Singapore and etc, but our bathroom accessories still definitely made from stainless steel 304. We will not simply change it.

Good saying smile.gif definitely the more high the better but considering the usage of industry whistling.gif From my experience of 2 years using 304 SS kitchen sink does not seen any rust from it too blush.gif so the manufacturing places does not play a factor but the stainless steel grade that matter icon_idea.gif

Sorry, i am not in English expert. In English it may be the same.
For gears, this are some explanation i found from uncle google.

"Waterproof" vs- "Water Resistant"

Watch:
Not 100 Percent

A water-resistant watch repels water but is not waterproof. No timepiece is completely impervious to water.

Virtually the Same

The term water resistant is viewed by watchmakers and sellers as being waterproof only up to a certain amount of water exposure.

Source: http://www.ehow.com/facts_5931308_water-re...of-watches.html

Fabric:-
To be truly "waterproof", the garment must be made from a "waterproof" fabric and have sealed, or taped seams so that rain does not leak in through the small perforations made by sewing needles during the construction of the garment. Sealing and taping seams takes special equipment and extra time. As such, it adds substantially to the cost of the garment. If the garment is made from a "water resistant" fabric, that usually means that a coating has been applied to the fabric to help repel water. Water resistant fabrics work very well for light rains, or drizzels, but may get soaked over time and are not considered to be "rain gear". If you are looking for protection from rain, you must look for garments made from "waterproof" fabrics, not "water resistant" fabrics.

Dear WeiKee,

Thanks for your sharing. Very detail and understandable!!!

Added on August 24, 2011, 1:24 pmEither rust proof or rust resistance. Stainless 304 will not rust, if you follow the instruction (avoid pour acid on it or damage its surface by using steel brush and so on).

The situation just like the example of "water resistance watch" above, "water resistant is being waterproof only up to a certain amount of water exposure." (This is the condition when using water resistance watch)

I m getting rclxub.gif .

I still don't understand why you guys said ss will rust. rclxub.gif it will not rust. Only corrode when expose to strong chemical. What I suspect it will rust is, there is a metal layer beside the ss. If the ss layer scratch or corrode and getting thinner, it will expose the metal layer which will rust. So it depend on the quality and the thickness of the ss/metal plate manufacturing. Since price ss is expensive, the ss layer is getting thinner to cut cost.

I always deal with the ss material for corrosive chemical. If the ss material is rust, I m going to f**k the supplier kau kau. Cause it not really ss material and it is serious problem.

conclusion : Stainless steel will rust. The higher the grade the more resistance against rust. However, for household use 304 grade is good enough to prevent rust.

What ozak said is true also, some manufacturers put a thin layer of stainless steel while the inner part is steel which will rust. Sometimes u will c rust but after wiping it, then it is shinny again. Some rust, even u wipe it, it will still b there.

A pure ss plate is softer and not strong as steel. To reinforce the plate stronger, probally laminate a metal material layer with ss. Ss layer to prevent rust while metal layer to strengthen the plate. In this way too will lower the cost which if using pure ss, would require more thicker plate to have same strength. That cost more.

If you want to experiment ss to see if it will rust, I can give you plenty to try. You want plate form or block form also ada. smile.gif mostly sus303 and sus304. You want titanium to chew pun ada.

That is residue rust from the GI pipe carry by water to the ss tank. Once dried out, leave the rust stain on the surface. That is why when wipeout, nothing there. If really rust, you will find some small rust hole eat into the plate. You can't wipe but need sandpaper to sand the rust.

u r half correct. Some people are using PVC yet can c rust stain. The rust sometimes is from the tap fittings not just from GI pipes. Due to water vapor, bathroom accessories may rust from the inside and you will c some rust stain on ur accessories as well.
