Are this really ss304 or just a layer onto of the metal layer? Cause real ss304 or ss303 material can't be rust.

I deal a lot of ss material. Never see it rust before.

I have a ss plate cover the ventilator fan from rain water for 13yrs. Never see it rust at all. I throw those ss scrap material outside that prompt to rain and water. Never see it rust.

I use it to handle chemical. And it can stand for many many yrs.

Get Titanium better. Much lighter and stronger biggrin.gif

I deal a lot with titanium too. Titanium is not strong. But have a corrosive resistance and heat resistance.

But in long run, it will slowly eat up too by very corrosive chemical. But better a lot than ss.

I m getting rclxub.gif .

I still don't understand why you guys said ss will rust. rclxub.gif it will not rust. Only corrode when expose to strong chemical. What I suspect it will rust is, there is a metal layer beside the ss. If the ss layer scratch or corrode and getting thinner, it will expose the metal layer which will rust. So it depend on the quality and the thickness of the ss/metal plate manufacturing. Since price ss is expensive, the ss layer is getting thinner to cut cost.

I always deal with the ss material for corrosive chemical. If the ss material is rust, I m going to f**k the supplier kau kau. Cause it not really ss material and it is serious problem.

Now many thongs from china, anythings is is possible

Added on August 24, 2011, 7:16 pmOzak, i understand from SS supplier (doing the hawker stall, stove), they cannot guarantee it will not rust. Just last much longer only.

A pure ss plate is softer and not strong as steel. To reinforce the plate stronger, probally laminate a metal material layer with ss. Ss layer to prevent rust while metal layer to strengthen the plate. In this way too will lower the cost which if using pure ss, would require more thicker plate to have same strength. That cost more.

If you want to experiment ss to see if it will rust, I can give you plenty to try. You want plate form or block form also ada. smile.gif mostly sus303 and sus304. You want titanium to chew pun ada.

conclusion : Stainless steel will rust. The higher the grade the more resistance against rust. However, for household use 304 grade is good enough to prevent rust.

What ozak said is true also, some manufacturers put a thin layer of stainless steel while the inner part is steel which will rust. Sometimes u will c rust but after wiping it, then it is shinny again. Some rust, even u wipe it, it will still b there.
*
That is residue rust from the GI pipe carry by water to the ss tank. Once dried out, leave the rust stain on the surface. That is why when wipeout, nothing there. If really rust, you will find some small rust hole eat into the plate. You can't wipe but need sandpaper to sand the rust.

u r half correct. Some people are using PVC yet can c rust stain. The rust sometimes is from the tap fittings not just from GI pipes. Due to water vapor, bathroom accessories may rust from the inside and you will c some rust stain on ur accessories as well.

Yup, cause those fitting is GI pipe material too.
