You can try the small animal vet at Bdr Puteri... located same row as the puchong yong tau foo shop house.

wow, so glad to have found this thread! very informative and great to see so many hamster owners! I currently have a syrian hamster which is about 1 1/3yr old called Rhino!

Attached Image

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet.

But i do have a suggestion for owners who have a single hamster.

Every night i let Rhino come out of his cage so that he can either run ard the house in his hamster ball, or lepak on the sofa and run ard while i supervise him. But as we all know, sometimes they can get a bit hyper or u can get a bit busy.

So one solution i found, was to make a playground for him! all you need is a cardboard box that is at least 1ft high, and maybe 1 1/2 wide and 2ft long (of course the bigger the better).

Lie the box down and cut out the top, leaving about 1inch on every side so it kinda looks like a frame.

fill the box with some wood shavings, and use sticky tape to tape up any loose flaps or places that need it
(all on the outside of the box though!)

And put some of your hammy's fav toys there!

For mine i put his hamster ball w stand, a plastic container with his bath sand inside, and maybe a tunnel or some other toy.

Be careful of toy placement though, coz sometimes the wrong placement can allow ur hamster to become a ninja and escape!

below is a sample of my hamster's old playground
Attached Image

Usually my hamster will be super happy in the box for easily 1-2hrs! but dun keep him there too long also, it's a good idea to put him back in his cage for a few minutes in case he wants to eat/drink/pee/sleep...etc.

if anyone got other ideas for hamster toys, please suggest! biggrin.gif

@infernoaswen My hamster can just ignore the food I gave him because he dun like it. T_T...in the end, give him kuaci but giving too much kuaci is not good for him.

@ratbert rclxms.gif Nice play area for your hammy. My hamsters was put in aquarium so he has a lot of space for him to run. I will take him out every night to play in his hamster ball. Let them run around the house for sometime. When it was time to go back to the aquarium, they practically refuse to come out of the ball.

Hey Nekochan, i currently feed my hamster Burp! Power Mix, i use to give him vitakraft, but this Burp!Power Mix seems to make him look alot better....and he seems to enjoy it more too.

did you check if your hamster is hiding all his favourite food? coz sometimes they do that and won't touch the stuff they dun like till they finish their stock first. When my hamster starts getting picky or doesn't finish his food, i'll check if he still got his stock and then maybe only give him a treat for that feeding, so he will go and whack his stock and the rest of the food he didn't take at first.

u might not see the stuff he don't like get 100% eaten, but most likely will see some of it disappear. after that just continue normal feeding lo smile.gif

Oh! and thanx for ur kind words about my hamster's playground...hehe, sometimes my Rhino will get bored of his ball, and want to do sth different, sometimes he will not feel like coming out of his cage for a few days somemore! coz he want to use his own wheel to exercise...lol

ratbert, kewl playground..
thats the best method to cure our hammy's boredom in my opinion.
my hammy used to nag me when i was busy ignoring him during study hours...so i made him a playground also..near a heater lol

@ratbert I bought Burp power mix before and my hammy love it. Im from ipoh and I can only get power mix if I go to KL. So for now, my hammy have to stick with that hamster food I bought them. I will like to try vitakraft one day since everyone say it is good.

err...sorry for the newb question,
ive known corncob beddings are not good for hamster...
since theyre easily gets mouldy and can sometimes makes the hammy tercekik or block in the intestine.
but what about those new fine granulate type ones?

Sad sad.. 1 Robo escaped yesterday night and didn't notice till i came back from work yesterday. I have 4 robos. When i woke up this morning another was gone..

Last nite i put some food on the floor to check if they still in my apartment and I woke up this morning all the food was gone..

Can anyone advise which is their most favorite place in the house?

Kitchen? Bedroom?

The cage is placed in the living room and now only 2 robos are inside.. sad.gif

my technique:
instead of putting one plate with food, put multiple plates with alot of food at strategic locations, near dark and got small little opening holes or crevices(<--? lol)
and make sure evry room will have at least a plate with food. plate with the least food gone shows they are hiding somewhere near the area.
dont put too little food on every plate since they will start searching for food much further from their hiding places and you will end up getting confused and harder to narrow the searches.
after you have narrow down the place, quarantine the room and sealed the room to prevent anything from going in and out and you should start carefully move items and search them.
while you are doing this or if this task take more than a day, repeat the step of putting food in all the places you have already put, just to makesure there are no other hamster in other area.
to make things easy, put a camera/video recorder and record at the area where the food on the plates are gone.

hope it helps~
my hammy missing for 3 days lol due to i accidently slept while letting him play on my table

My hamster escaped when i was out of the house for 2 days. When i came back, luckily my mom saw it running around under our couch and to our piano. I try to lure him out with some food and kuaci since he loves it so much. He was peeking around the piano at us then when to the kuaci when we act we dun see him. When he was eating the kuaci, i straight away catch it with my hand and he was still holding the kuaci. I bet he was hungry.

Hope you can find your hamster. They can be quite tricky to catch.

Or u can lure him into a bowl where he cant jump out.
U can put some book like ladder for him to reach the bowl that are favorite food.
Put small amount of food on the books too...
Gud luck.. smile.gif
