My aunt bought us some a branded hamster food Versele-Laga.

It has been 6 months using it and then the food started to have bugs in it crawling out from those seeds. We sealed it tightly and we separated it in a clean container as well. Is all hamsters food like this? I mean this food cost RM22.

if its a good brand i think its safe....

so far none of my hamster food had bugs before...but i never manage to keep it so long...max also around 2months before it finishes...i always buy small packet as it will finish fast & this means i need to buy a fresh one again, so my hamster always get fresh food.

But if got bugs already then i think better throw it away. I know if you google search some say its still ok for them to eat they can even eat the bugs but i dont think that is a good thing to do because we do not know if the bugs are safe or not. Plus if the bugs didnt die properly might even cause stomach upset or problems to your hamster digestive system. Even worst the bugs might escape from the food & crawl to the hamster bedding & lay eggs or bite your hamster....so just throw it away la

Yeah. I throw it away already. The hamster food is large size and my hammy cannot eat that much also. Cannot finish even if I give them 2 scoop. I think i might buy other brand. They dun really like the pellet and they prefer seeds. Haiz.

What kind of food do you buy for your hammy, especially robos?

i dont have robo...only syrian...i give him vitakraft...but sometimes i mix it with sunflower seeds or mealworms. I also give him fruits once or twice a week.

but i am planning to buy harry hamster next week. Want to try that because my vitakraft going to finish already.

actually the bug is weevils
even your normal rice will have it
if you want you can just sun it and it will all run away

its not common or uncommon
the reason is you didnt keep it in an airtight container
dont use cheapo tupperwears or merely put in zip lock bag
you should put in both ziplock and the real tupperware brand container
then no weevils and you can keep using the food till expiry date

Versele-Laga use to be a good brand.
but recently food turned moldy
i bought a pack and my hamster dont really like it.

for vitakraft lovers, please be aware that vitakraft menu actually have insufficient nutrients for your hamsters
hamsters need MINIMUM 14% protein if im not mistaken, menu only has 10%-12%

Aw...i really dunno which hamster food is good for my hammy anymore...i thought of buying vitakraft since everyone say its good.

I guess i need to keep my hamster food somewhere safer. need to go korek those tupperware container

i give mealworms once a while so he gets more than enough protein
i will probably search at petsmore because the last time i went to sunway, they didnt have it.

I think depend how much u like them....
If u love them very much then many will get the best thing for their Hammy...
But even u buy those normal food i think is sufficient as in the wild,they arent getting enough food /nutrition...

Hi there. sorry for my ignorance. I am just curious to know if hamster can also eat rabbit pellet since they are both herbivours. Since most rabbit pellet can fulfill the minimum 14% protein, May be can try giving rabbit pellet?

My hammy do not eat the rabbit pellets which is in the hamster food.

i cant find harry hamster or vitakraft for my hamster! went to sunway, empire & ss15...all dont have

should have bought 2 packets the other day...

dont think its good to give rabbit food to hamster
rabbits are herbivorous but hamsters are omnivores

Its not that i give my hamster rabbit food. Its hamster food but there is this pellets that look like rabbit pellet.

i failed to find harry hamster... even vitakraft also dont have already....
