Hi notroxity, this is my first post here in lowyat, i was searching the web for this particular project regarding installing ssd on my 4830tg and luckily i found this. I would like to ask some questions regarding this project before buying the above link from ebay and before buying the agility 3 also from ebay. Basically i just wanted to make the ssd my c drive and as the main drive where i would install the windows 7 & programs and then make the existing 640gb as my d drive or secondary drive for datas. Do i have to remove the 640gb from its existing location and transfer it to the place where the optical drive is previously located and then install the ssd inside the laptop where we remove the 640gb. I need to know how you did it. Thank you

yes. u have to transfer ur HDD to where ur optical drive is as u cannot boot from ur 2nd storage drive ( in this case ur stock 640GB HDD). but it is detectable in windows, n can use it for storage and game installs.

eventho u set ur SATA mode to IDE mode, u still cannot detect ur 2nd storage drive (i.e HDD) both in the BIIOS and boot manager) but can still use it normally. updating the SSD's firmware, u have to Linux firmware updater, everything is on ocz website.

Hi notroxcity, thank you for your immediate reply, i really wanted to be careful about this and dont want to screw things up. Just to summarize and see if i understand you right.
First: i have to remove the stock hdd (640gb).
Second: install the ssd (agility 3) on the slot where the stock hhd had been previously located
Third: without still removing the optical drive, run a linux distribution bootable disc to update the ssd firmware
Fourth: using the optical drive again, install the windows 7 using the acer recovery disc to install windows 7 to the ssd
Fifth: remove the optical drive and then install the 9.5mm ultra bay from ebay with the stock hdd (640gb) connected to it
Sixth: enjoy the new acer 4830 with ssd as the new C: drive and the stock hhd as D: drive

Did I misunderstood anything from your experience or do I need to know anything more before proceeding with the project. Another concern is and would like to ask you is, did you get a reply from acer regarding the issue of the optical drive being connected with sata port 3 im concerned because if we swap the optical drive with the stock hdd then it will degrade over time and cannot use the 640gb which contains the datas. Added on September 25, 2011, 11:18 pmI did check with acer website and entered the serial number of my 4830tg and its says its not affected with the sandy bridge issue. I'm really CONFUSED?????

ur summary is correct. mind u that, u dont have to take apart 4830TG to remove optical drive. theres only 1 single screw u have to unscrew to remove the drive. owh yeah, google SSD tweaker to optimize ur SSD under W7.

regarding the SATA2 port, no replies at all.

didn't do anythng ....just on9...is it any problem with the batterie... bought just 1 week ago...

Huh? Even my HP-DV6 lasted about 5 hours for normal web surfing with Battery Saving mode.

Did you open youtube or something with flash ?
Checked if got anything trigger the nVidia ?
Can you install BatteryCare and post the screenshot on the "battery details" ?

I find it difficult to plug in the power cable.. Anyone face the same problem?

Hi guys.....

Just wondering, what happens when you press the battery button in front of the laptop?

I saw there's 40% of battery left, itchy hand go and press the button. suddenly screen off, harddisk light flash very rapidly indicating a lot of read/write activity and then it just off. I think it hibernated. Then when I try to press the on button again, the on button light flashes 3 times only and nothing happens.

4830tg with i5 2430m cpu?
is it still had throttling problems???

i dun have problem... that button is to indicate the battery % n also indicate charging...


not sure but i think so...

^ how does it indicate percentage? the button can be pressed in wert... try pressing yours when it's running on battery.
