Guys anyone here face problem with the WIFI??
eg. i switch off my WIFI whenever there is no WIFI access to prevent wasting batt. But whenever i restart/shutdown and re-run my lappy it will turn on automatically....
*
If not mistaken, you need to install latest Launch Manager for it to remember the settings.

QUOTE(notroxcity @ Aug 22 2011, 11:42 AM)
wat do u mean? when on battery, the SATA that originally belongs to optical drive is on power saving mode or something? and if it is on power saving mode, it wud stop the device connected to the sata port or decrease performance? btw, im on AC when i did the benchmark.
*
Yeah, something like that since they need to try reduce the power consumption. My Dell would turn off optical drive when in battery.

a little something to worry about 4830tg owners...so...according to CPU-Z, our motherboards are B2 revision correct?which has been recalled a couple of months ago due to degrading SATA/chipset flaw. now...if ur use Gigabyte SATA check utility, u can see that, ur primary HDD wud be connected to SATA3 port 0 and that SATA3 port 1 would have not accommodated any drive at all and ur optical drive wud be connected to SATA2 port 2. as shown and u can even see that the utility says the motherboard revision is B2. according to Acer (Sandy Bridge Recalls Support), customers can check whether their laptops are affected or not. Technically, 4830TG's motherboard is affected and shud b replaced. So, i keyed in my SNID and S/N in to the empty box, it states that my unit does not require any service.

so..how? our optical drive is connected to the flawed chipset. it will definitely degrade over time.

cpuz :
[attachmentid=2399916]

Gigabyte sata utility check:
[attachmentid=2399917]

Acer product adivisory:
[attachmentid=2399919]

so...knowing dat ur optical drive's SATA port will degrade over time, does it worry u?

da chipset flaw affects ONLY SATA port 2 and onwards. it does not affect SATA port 0 and port 1 as stated by CNET

and our optical drive is connected to SATA port 2 according to gigabyte utility...

and i quote CNET :

Issue: Affects SATA ports 2 through 5, not ports 0 and 1. Most laptops have two SATA devices, such as a hard disk drive and optical drive that would be using the unaffected ports 0 and 1. That said, Sandy Bridge-based systems with more than a couple of SATA devices could potentially be affected. The data itself is not affected. So, if a consumer had an affected system, data could be accessed by moving the storage device to another system or a working port.

well... my HDD is connected to a working SATA3 port 0.no issues there. but the optical drive is connected to flawed SATA2 port 2. i dont know whether the counting of the port number resets back when considering SATA2 ports ( i.e. starts at port 0 instead of port 2)...but gigabyte utility asks to remove the connected device to a working sata 3 port...how da hell am i going to do dat on a laptop?haha.

There's also possibility they changed the chipset, but didn't update the code revision which happen to some HP. The owner disassemble his laptop and it is using B3 chipset.

owh really?is there anyway i can check that other than tearing apart my laptop.haha. calling acer service centre wud b the last resort. smile.gif and also the reason why HP's didnt update the revision codes, is becoz they're selling off their PC business.haha.just dont care anymore.haha

You calibrate the battery and it become 17% ?

ya... b4 calibrate on yesterday,the wear lvl was 0% but i notice the battery life is shorter compare to previously... after calibrate,the wear lvl bcame 17%... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

So, it there ways for us to connect the optical drive to SATA3 port1?

uh...no? haha. i dont think so.

----------------------------------------

anyways, if games are JERKY,not laggy, but JERKY, wat wud b da problem?ive tested w non-OC and OC'd gpu and turboboostes cpu...no throttling,i think my game's jerky...

-----------------------------------------
another question, in Intel Rapid Storage Technology utility, it states that my HDD is running at 3Gb/s. mind u that my HDD is connected to a SATA-to-SATA caddy of which im unsure of wat speed the SATA port runs at but on the caddy itself, da sticker says 1.5Gb/s (SATA1). So i can rest assured that my HDD (connected to caddy) is running at full speed SATA2 3Gb/s becaus intel RST says so rite? if so, there's only one problem left; i cannot boot from the caddy. smile.gif can inform the seller w the details smile.gif

my SSD runs at 6Gb/s btw. shud b correct reading of my HDD as reported by intel RST.

I have returned.

@notroxcity> If jerky for me it's because the GPU is running on Intel HD, not on the NVidia card. I had to restart the 4830TG to solve.

@notroxcity, if you transfer file to HDD, speed still good ?
Jerky, it could be the GPU or CPU suddenly drop in clocks, or HDD lose speed as well..

da choppy graphics was due to my boot settings at msconfig. i chose "2" cores as boot cores in the advanced options. i tot it meant physicals. instead, it was i guess either total threads or virtual cores.

da HDD speed was confirmed by Intel RST to be SATA2 speed. i can relax a bit. now, da last and i think da final problem wud be i cannot boot from my 2nd HDD. earlier today, ive tested da caddy in a different laptop, and found out dat if the SATA mode is set to AHCI, BIOS and boot manager will NOT detect the 2nd HDD. hav to set SATA mode to IDE mode. HOWEVER, when i replace the caddy back into my 4830TG, and set SATA mode tu IDE, sadly n frustratingly, the bIOS and boot manager wont see my 2nd HDD....

can i cry like little girl rite now?

there's OS in there. even if there's no OS in the 2nd HDD (640GB), the BIOS shud detect the HDD. like it detects the stock optical drive. What do you think is da problem? is it da caddy or 4830TG? da caddy works just fine on da other laptop but not 4830TG.
