Guys,  bad news.

Tm UniFi in my area (Bukit Antarabangsa) went shit again. Stupid operator because I've been called the technical service so many times but NO answer whatsoever even though It's just installed since last week.

Hi guys
I would like to ask those who have gone through in Unifi installation on terrace houses. At this moment, I m renovating my house, and I plan to use Unifi when my house is ready. Since Unifi does not allow us to install before renovation is complete, I have a few questions which I need to clarify before i go forward with my reno :
1) Is there anything I can do to conceal the Unifi wiring during my reno? I plan to insert empty trunking from outside to the location I plan to put my unifi, but I have heard that TM technicians have refused to use the trunking provided. Can I know how do I go about this? Can I hire TM contractors or anyone to guide/install the trunking before installation of the actual Unifi, so that I do not get problems later?

2) Any TM contractors which anyone of you can recommend?

3) If eventually I can't get TM contractors to help approve/guide on the Unifi trunking, what should I tell my contractor to install the Unifi? Can the trunking make 90 degrees corners or not?

4) I plan to put all Unifi equipment into my storeroom (i have my LAN there too), but it has to go through 4 set of walls (outside wall, room wall, room wall, storeroom wall). Will TM contractors drill holes onto these walls to pull the fiber cable through? This is the worse case scenario, where no trunking is installed at all.

Thanks a lot guys

I had this same problem - I wanted my "network center" to be in my office at the front of the house on the upstairs floor.

I eventually gave up thinking of having so much fiber optic going through the house, as the fiber optic in my area enters from the back of the house.

What I did was have the fiber optic cable enter into the wet kitchen. Then I design one small storage area there to keep just the optical network unit. Then from the storage area, I pulled 1 x CAT6 hidden in the wall to my office. So the router will be placed in my office. Optical modem and router not in one location, but joined by one long ass network cable embedded in the wall. As for the fiber optic phone line, I also put one phone socket in the area where the optical modem is, and this goes to my living room downstairs, where I'll place the cordless phone.

A suggestion here.. You can try using a homeplug instead of pulling the cat6 cable all the way to your office.. smile.gif

My house was undergoing a renovation too when my Unifi is installed. My wall is already knocked when the installer arrives. The fiber is protected by a cheap plastic pipe and the renovator seal the wall when the installation is done.

My house was in a total mess when the installer comes, so I guess it depends on them whether to install or not. I guess they would help if you insist.

Hi i need some advices from your guys.
I just installed Unifi VIP5 today and i found the speed is good when running on lan cable, but speed will be half or 3Mb+ when using wireless. The router wireless given is Dlink DR-615.

After refering to the advices from forum. I have purchased TP-Link TD-W8960N wireless router and do the configuration exactly . I am able to connect to the IPTV and internet as well. But again, Wireless speed is less than lan connection 20-30% diffrenences.

Speedtest with lan cable.

Speed of wirelss is inconsistence and lower than using lan cable. Sometimes, when intial connected , it will able to reach 5Mbps+. but after quite sometimes , it will only average 2-3Mbps.

I have changed the wireless setting as below:

Channel : 11
mode : 11bgn
Bandwidth : 20MHZ
Transmit power:100%
WWM(WIFI multimedia) : Enabled.

Before this, i am using channel 6, and it is worst and packet drop/ ping time out. Then i changed to 11 and sees some improvement but still cannot reach 4-5 Mbps consistent compare to use lan cable. Could it be too many Wireless router/signal in my condo? Please advices.

Nah, it's a new house and renovation was going on before moving in so I had the opportunity to do all my cabling in the wall one shot.

If you keep streamyx and also unifi, then you will have to pay for two types of internet la. But if you read the feedbacks so far, some people actually said that the internet on unifi not so stable sometimes since its still new and testing period. Streamyx seem to be more stable....

Like me now, the UNIFI still not working and a technician is coming on Monday. So perhaps I will not have any internet for the next 2 days.

So you could keep your streamyx for a month or so and see if Unifi is stable or not. If need to work off the kinks and bugs until its stable, then only terminate stramyx. I wished I have my streamyx now cause I am only using my maxis broadband with a limit of 3GB... sad.gif
