You know how to login to your router right?

192.168.1.1->admin/admin

Then you should see this

http://www.tp-link.com/resources/simulator/841_v5/index.html

Then... go to "Bandwidth Control" and then "Rules List"

You can set the Ingress and Egress bandwidth to a particular or a range of IP. However, you need to know that you cannot set it to run on schedule. Everything manually. That's all i know xD

guys, i started using unifi vip5 today, but the wifi strength is v weak. my cctv technician said its due to the inferior quality of d-link router. change it and it would help significantly, is this correct ?

so i just use back my previous 5/6 years old router, linksys WRT54G ?

but the d-link is N series router, isnt it going to serve better than B/G router ?

sorry if this ques has been asked alot here.. no time to read backwards.

btw, wat did u guys get using Speedtest ? i got 4xxx kbps, USJ 9 area.

ASUS RT-N13U WIFI N 300 WITH USB SUPPORT 185
ASUS RT-N56U DUAL BAND WIFI ROUTER 479
TP-LINK TL-WR841 WIFI N 300 ROUTER 85
TP-LINK TL-SL2210WEB 8PORT VLAN SWITCH 239

got these from lowyat c-zone price list. tat means only the following product can replace unifi products ?

so if im to change the router to this -> TP-LINK TL-WR841 WIFI N 300 ROUTER 85, it would help me to get better strength and improve the speed ? or need to change the all-in-one asus but costs rm479 ? doh.gif

WR841ND can get @ 79 @ lowyat. Go look around. It is hell a lot better than D-link. Shouldn't be a problem to use that. 5dBi vs 1.8dBi antenna. Decide yourself xD Try to search for my post and you'll see I posted a picture of the modem compared to DIR615. See the difference in size of the antenna. It's hugeeeeeee

N56 is only needed if you're going for dual band, 5GHz and also for gigabit LAN/WAN throughput. Else you won't need it. Another nice feature in asus router is the USB port and built in BT client. Which mean you can just hook your external hdd to ur router to BT instead of BT on ur computer. Btw, those asus have built in antenna, which might be weaker than those with external antenna. Why not you read KLSEET's review on those routers and decide from there.

before this i have the same problem like urs
as i need my 1st floor to get at least enough coverage from the router!
*ps b4 this im p1 user and using belkin 300N series and place the router and modem at 2nd floor*
still not enough to get full speed at the 1st floor

den i bought TP-link 1043ND ultimate gigabit N
and walaa! it increased the range i think nearly +25%

and last 2 weeks i just installed unifi and luckly the tp-link 1043ND compataible with unifi*price of the router around RM160 nowdays*

and it work like charm! thumbup.gif

thanks both of u.

yes iwanagp, searched through ur post and saw the picture. wink.gif if the coverage and strength is improved, would the speed be faster too ? or not much different ?

given tat the router is a N series one, so i do need to have a N series adapter so tat it can work at its best ?

if N router connected to B/G adapter means 54mbps is the max rather than 300mbps as claimed?

so need to get a N series PCI-E adapter too ? sorry for noob questions. unsure.gif

my unifi connection has been slow since yesterday...MU d/l only less than 20kbps....called unifi and they kept asking me to perform the speedtest. yes, it says 5mbps but it's definitely not the speed i'm receiving. to open a webpage also takes more than 5s..wtf... doh.gif

seems d/l from MU eat up all bandwidth. strange thing is last time i did the same but not affecting my browsing

anyone can comment what can be the possible reason? how to solve this?

my downloads from gametrailers.com seems to have gone back to normal-fetching 1MBps easily.

but from another site, it's still really slow-barely 20KBps rclxub.gif

called UniFi, and just like pixels10 above, they kept telling me to use their speedtest.lol doh.gif

obviously got maximum speed no problem,there..

Erm... Speed, not really but transferring between local users is definitely faster because the D-link I've been using just can't let me transfer at full speed, in deed, it's just like 500kB/s (crapp...) It will not be faster because UniFi max out at 20M (for 20m packages) while wifi speed is at least 54Mbps nowadays. Wifi won't be a limiting factor provided that your device is not far away (or weak signal) from the router. Else, I don't think it will be limit for it.

Wireless N router are backward compatible. But you can setup the router to broadcast only B/G or B/G/N or N only. For your case, if you don't want to get a new adapter to achieve 300M wireless N speed, it's fine. No issue on Internet. It'll only be slower if you want to transfer file via wireless. 54M is more than enough for Unifi. Should have no prob at surfing and browsing quality though. My housemates have been connecting in G mode to wireless B/G/N broadcasted wifi. No issue.
