before this i have the same problem like urs
as i need my 1st floor to get at least enough coverage from the router!
*ps b4 this im p1 user and using belkin 300N series and place the router and modem at 2nd floor*
still not enough to get full speed at the 1st floor
den i bought TP-link 1043ND ultimate gigabit N
and walaa! it increased the range i think nearly +25%
and last 2 weeks i just installed unifi and luckly the tp-link 1043ND compataible with unifi*price of the router around RM160 nowdays*
and it work like charm!

You mean compatible as in? You're using DDWRT or TP-Link custom firmware(Exist??) or Default firmware???

thanks both of u.
yes iwanagp, searched through ur post and saw the picture.

if the coverage and strength is improved, would the speed be faster too ? or not much different ?
given tat the router is a N series one, so i do need to have a N series adapter so tat it can work at its best ?
if N router connected to B/G adapter means 54mbps is the max rather than 300mbps as claimed?
so need to get a N series PCI-E adapter too ? sorry for noob questions.

Erm... Speed, not really but transferring between local users is definitely faster because the D-link I've been using just can't let me transfer at full speed, in deed, it's just like 500kB/s (crapp...) It will not be faster because UniFi max out at 20M (for 20m packages) while wifi speed is at least 54Mbps nowadays. Wifi won't be a limiting factor provided that your device is not far away (or weak signal) from the router. Else, I don't think it will be limit for it.
Wireless N router are backward compatible. But you can setup the router to broadcast only B/G or B/G/N or N only. For your case, if you don't want to get a new adapter to achieve 300M wireless N speed, it's fine. No issue on Internet. It'll only be slower if you want to transfer file via wireless. 54M is more than enough for Unifi. Should have no prob at surfing and browsing quality though. My housemates have been connecting in G mode to wireless B/G/N broadcasted wifi. No issue.
