Movie Title Need for Speed (2014)
PQ 7/10
SQ 8.5/10
Story Line 5/10
Comment As expected, the movie is more focus on car racing rather than story line, there's a lot the racing action scenes with pretty reasonable SQ

Haha sabotage and need 4 speed still great 4 the bluray collection. Those who like David Ayer works, can try training days with denzel Washington and ethan hawke classic crime realism story at its finest. Hahahaha.

End of Watch - best David Ayer movie yet so far. and i wonder how come he can do this great movie and make a crap show like Sabotage after that.

Sabotage - Best Arnold movie since his post political year but still... wink.gif

Need 4 Speed - I actually enjoying it. to me Aaron Paul still can't really make it as leading guy. Every time i see him it still reminds me of Yo b**** !

appleseed alpha is 2014 cg motion capture movie, a prequel to appleseed beginning 2004 and appleseed ex-machina 2007.

a touch better than the previous two. enjoyed it, great cg, not excessive, very good dts audio. based on work of shirow masamune who also wrote ghost-in-the-shell movies and series. 3.5/5.

if you have not watched any appleseed or ghost-in-the-shell movies, try it. appleseed is more towards post-apocalyptic themes while ghost-in-the-shell dwells on futuristic crimes and terror. both franchises are considered excellent works in the syfy cyberpunk subgenre.

movies like appleseed... appleseed, 3 movies. if u like the genre, then ghost-in-the-shell is a must, also 3 movies. i actually like gits more. currently there is a 4-part miniseries gits: arise on-going of which 3 have been released. all these are available in 1080p.

then there is final fantasy... but there are only 2 real movies - advent children which i think is among the best japanese animation works, and holloywood's the spirits within.

and... if like shinobi-ninja stuff, try the naruto/shippuuden movies and series! tongue.gif

talking about cg/animation, i didn't find rio2 good. mr peabody and sherman is not bad. 3.5/5. the best one since lego movie - heartwarming, good for family watch.

The Raid 2: Berandal (2014).
Absolutely freaking amazing movie especially for its much lower than Hollywood standards budget. I'm just going to brand Iko Uwais as the Jason Statham of Jakarta.

Yeah, I watched it 2 days ago before the part 2 & so not exactly today. Solid stunts and fight choreography. For both movies, whenever a fight comes on, every hit or counterattack made sense and I could feel the energy. My God, the brutality! I love movies like these, any recommendations?

From Up on Poppy Hill (2011)

Studio Ghibli is known for it's fantasy works!

Valley of the Winds (1984), Castle in the Sky (1986), Princess Mononoke (1997) etc, are what people talk about when Studio Ghibli is mentioned.

I did fall into that category.

After watching this movie, I am glad that my mindset is somewhat shifted.

This studio's ability to take the everyday mundane, through sheer observation and make it into artistic... it is breathtaking!!!

What do I mean. The attention to details. Umi making a meal, when the students went to Tokyo to meet up with the businessman behind the plan to tear down their dorm rooms, and on goings in the office etc.

Also this is one of the animation by Studio Ghibli not directed by Hayao Miyazaki. SO I am quite confident that the Studio would move of from Hayao Miyazaki retirement.

Once I saw this I HAD TO find a copy of Ue o Muite Arukou (Sukiyaki) song because that is how involved i got with the movie!!

Very simple storyline. Very beautifully done. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in cinema, namely a good story very well told!!

The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)

Shame on you Hollywood.

Shame on you!!

Stealing from people and not giving ANY credit to the original.

Shame on you.

Epic (2013) rip of the idea of this movie and did not even give it credit. I can also see elements of Croods (2013) here, again, no credit given. Shameless!!! And at the start of every blu ray disc, an FBI warning states that piracy is not a victimless crime!!! Hypocrites!!!!!

Another beautiful movie from Studio Ghilbi!!

Everything is immaculate!!

Again, attention to details... Just note the sound design, when Arrietty's father brought her to the large house... Amazing...

I don't want to take too much of your time reading a review of this movie.

Do yourself a favour, go watch this is you have not already.

My Two Sen.

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985)

A guilty indulgence of mine.

The first thing that jumps at me is the video transfer. The movie never looked so good.

As for Audio, well, we only get PCM stereo, so the studio is not putting alot of eggs into this release. I do have to add, beggars cannot be choosers.

This movie has an "Asian Sensibility" to it, and not in anyway condescending.

Alot of flack was given about the character Chiun was played by a white, namely Joel Grey. I personally can think of many more atrocities made in many other movies (Hollywood production). I kinda like Joel Grey as Chiun.

It is a vehicle for Fred Ward to make it as an action hero, unfortunately, it did not happen.

I really like this movie.

It is... unusual, and funny and you actually care for the two main characters.

Oh, note a very young Captain Cathrine Janeway (for the Star Trek fans).

Interestingly, this movie is actually MORE relevant today then it was in the 80s...

I will be watching this again, and again, and again... laugh.gif

i watched iko uwais' first movie too - merantau (2009), also produced/directed by gareth evans. it is not as good the the raid but a star was born.

i like the raid more than raid2 mainly becos there was a great antagonist played by yayan ruhian (another terrific fighter!) who appeared only as a guest star in raid2.

similar shows... i can think of tony jaa's most recent movie, protector2, assuming you have watched all his previous ones incl ong bak and tom-yum-koong series.

lastly, i bumped into this japanese movie black belt (kuro-obi) 2007 and thought it was good. simple story but it does show some real and raw karate, not the "fight for 1 hour" scenes but a few punches and kicks will kill. check it out:

Sabotage (2014)

What do you do when you are the IT Action Hero of the 80s/90s and are looking to do a comeback?

Well, you look for scripts like Sabotage...

It is both and action movie and also a dramatic role.

Is this the right vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger to do a comeback?

It kinda is.

Personally, after The Last Stand (2013) & Escape Plan (2013) I'm not sure he has found his "groove" yet...

He has never been a good "actor" per se. He was always a person, guys aspire to be (physically speaking) and girls hope their significant other can be (again physically).

His command of the English Language has always been a stumbling block.

Having a run in California as governor, being associated with the Kennedy family (Maria Shriver), his English has improved, time will tell if his comeback would be a success.

This movie is actually good from a script point of view, and most of the cast are well cast, again, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead, may not be the best thing going for the movie (because it is a dramatic role)...

I do add, if violence is your cup of tea, this movie serves that in spades.

So, I humbly present to you, My Two Sen

I do think the 1st movie is better in term of fighting scene.
