AFTER EVENT COVERAGESo here we are, the long awaited LFS D1 Grand Prix Malaysia has finally ended. So lets cut it short and get straight to how the whole event went shall we?
The Lineup
On 3rd March 2007 at 8pm sharp, D1GPMY commences at the well known Blackwood Carpark. Compared to our previous events such as Drift Clinics, and the DGC series, 2 drivers (Albert and Scania) from Hong Kong had joined us this time around. A total of 11 drivers showed up and 2 were absent, namely HyperC and XOundead (from HK). One thing worth mentioning is a new team arising, called DZire, the team has a strong lineup of drivers and they sure have a mission in this first round of the D1GPMY series.

A top down view of the drivers in their parking spaces, lining up and preparing for the qualifying session to start while the judge briefed all of them of the basic rules.

Another view of the lineups and the track layout itself.

The Qualifying
The qualifying starts approximately at 8:30pm, where all the drivers get to performed their runs one by one. The usual top guns from DCM have scored high, but Sherren stood out the most as he simply nailed the track with great precision and aggresiveness, he is the only driver that scored a full 100 points.

Sherren showing off how he is the best at showing off, getting close to the barrier at the earlier start of the first corner.

Sherren getting close to the 2nd clipping point with good angle and speed.

The only 2 DZire drivers all advanced with flying colours, Farique, one of the DZire drivers, had a suspension damage due to showing off too much.

But shockingly that doesn't stop him from scoring above 90+ in his run, which is somewhat impressive. Check out the bent rear right tire of Farique's car, yet he still clears the first clipping point with good angle!

And finally, it is D1 afterall, how can we forgot about the biggest crash in the Qualifying session? In this crash, Wah Chai simply pushed too much carelessly, he smashed into the tirewall and the barrier at full speed and sideways, causing him to flip up to the air. No worries as he is perfectly fine, though he scored the lowest amongst all due to extensive car damage after the big crash.

Scania from HK, the only driver that competes with the monsterous FZ, with 350hp under the hood, Scania has no problem keeping the speed up and pushing real high angles during his run, too bad that his runs were too inconsistent and he is unable to clear some of the clipping points, he did not make it to the top 8. Albert on the other hand made a very good run in his XRT and he squeezes onto the top 8 lineups.
At 9:30pm, the qualifying session ended. A total of 8 drivers were later selected and advanced to the battle arena.
