1. Annual Income: 46k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Petrol, Bills, TnG, installment, groceries at MYDIN, Cash back

4. Existing credit cards if any: Maybank Petronas

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Any

6. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Petrol 200, Streamyx - 130, groceries - 250, maxis - 150. PTPTN, 250 per month

Hi,

Just want an advice regarding what cash back card that suitable for me based on my spending habit. Currently I'm utilize my Maybank Petronas that give me 8TP and 5TP until Feb 2013 if I not mistaken.

Since I plan to married next 2 years, which card can give me greater savings or which I can utilize for maximum cash back since I plan to do this item below for next year:

1. Cash back card must accept Mydin for the 5% or whatever max percent cash back that the card offer.

2. I plan to pay my ptptn 3k per month by any CC that can max the cash back by monthly plus bonus of point or any additional benefit an then BT it to any CC that have 0% for 6 months or 12 months. By this way, hopefully I can settle my ptptn loan in one year and get 20% discount on it for full settlement in one year then only concentrate to pay up the BT later on.

Thanks,
*
Firstly, u cant pay ptptn with CC. Secondly, that is not how u maximize 20% ptptn discount. Please refer to the ptptn thread. I got explain about this. The 20% is calculated based on final payment only.

Better than Citibank Cash Back Platinum? Well, click here to my article on MACH by HLB where I have a table comparing OCBC Titanium MasterCard versus Maybankard 2 Cards American Express versus UOB One Card versus Citibank Cash Back Platinum.

And for your spending which is just below RM1K/month, the OCBC Titanium MasterCard is just perfect as it gives you 5% cash back for Petrol, Phone Bills and Dining. For shopiing it gives you 1% cash back versus your Citibank Cash Back 0.3%.

1. Minimum income requirement to qualify for a credit card is RM24,000 per annum (effective from 18th March 2011). You must be able to submit proof of your income.
If my case i only have Rm 18,000 per annum, is there any way that the bank can approve me to get a credit card?? I heard some say with rm 18,000 per annum can qualify. i'm wondering and very curious about this. thank you.

Bros and Sis, I am closing this thread on 1st January 2013.

Most of the questions lately are too general and can be posted at General Thread or not following template required.

Moreover, most of the questions are repetitive and one can find the answer by reading the last few pages. As such, I will pass the ball to those of you who wish to recommend a credit card(s) to others by starting a new thread (you can start one immediately and I will close this thread).

Hi guys. I need some guidance here.

1. Annual Income: RM50k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Preferably yes

3. Card required for: Cash back on mostly petrol (Petronas), TnG, maybe some easy-installment-shopping

4. Existing credit cards if any: No Malaysian CC yet

5. Looking at CC from: Islamic CC only

6. Others: I'm looking at the maximum limit as well. Any recommendation on banks that give out most limit?

I'm not sure if I don't do enough homeworks but there aren't much choices when it comes to islamic CC. Hoping for some input here, thanks a lot.

Basically UOB One Card and Citibank Cash Back Platinum almost the same as both earns you 5% cash back for petrol and for general transactions 0.3%. And both these cards have a monthly cap on petrol too. But the Citibank CB only credit the cash back earned once you reach RM50 whereas UOB credit the cash back monthly into the account.

As for OCBC TMC,it beats both the cards mentioned above because you earn 5% cash back for Petrol, Dining, Utility Bills and Groceries.

Click here to my article on MACH by HLB where I have prepared a table comparing various cash back cards, i.e. Maybankard 2 Cards vs OCBC Titanium MasterCard vs MACH by HLB vs UOB One Card vs Citibank Cash Back Platinum. Please note I am not recommending to your the HLB but asking you to refer to the comparison table.

So for your case and annual income, just go get Maybankard 2 Cards and OCBC Titanium MasterCard as recommended by yours truly in Post#1.

and yes, Citibank Cash Back Platinum does not earn you any reward points. There is an advantage in having a Citibank credit card in 2012 where we get FREE movie ticket at TGV but I got no idea if this promo will be extended. Click here to read my article The Best Credit Cards for Movie Tickets 2012.

thanks! you're so damn good at this! but... at one point, what if my total annum basic income is like 20k only? since after applying online, such as OCBC TMC, they emailed me and specify "basic" income for 3 months. if basic only, there no luck for me to get it right? as i know, uob one only will allow basic+commission base to apply(the guy who promotes me said so, i guess he just make it up cause 24k a year is like easy to apply as well)

Since your monthly expenses just above RM1K, and if you like to keep Citibank CB, get either OCBC Titanium MasterCard or Maybankard 2 Cards.

However, if you have not been benefiting from Citibank CB from their promos, then cancel it and get both OCBC TMC nd MBB 2 Cards. Click on above the MACH link I gave above and check out the comparison table and see which card earns your more based on your spending pattern.

Bro, for both Petronas and installment plan with Islamic credit card, I suggest you check out Maybank Petronas Visa credit card.

What a waste, getting the OCBC TMC for installment plans. For your case since it is for emergency, get a card that is most convenient for you to make payment.

ya, for OCBC, i have opted for massage chair which cost nearly 8K plus..with 0% installment..since at that time i do not have any credit card except OCBC, so i have to use that particular card that time.. now, i do not have much available balance in OCBC As for my second card, will normal card like BSN credit card or CIMB which is free for life good..? other cards that i observe must have minimum swipe in order to waive the annual fee...

1. You can always go settle your installment plan (partially or in full) and free up your available credit limit.
2. BSN and CIMB card any good? I guess you can answer yourself - for emergency cases, does it make any difference to you? Come to think of it, for emergency case, maybe better to get a non-Islamic card to ensure that your card will be accepted for any type of transactions anywhere on earth.

To All Newbies:

observe the above scenario, which is very common among us credit card users (including me) -

1. We all initially choose a card that can benefit us. In above example, the OCBC TMC was chosen because it offers 5% cash back for our expenses required for our daily survival, i.e. Petrol Dining, Groceries, Utilties Bills and Telco Bills.
2. But with free easy credit, we go buy stuff (that is not required for our daily survival) we otherwise would not with cash (as we will think twice before we go burn RM8K cash we are holding in our hands, example above massage chair).
3. 0% Installment Plan is not FREE money but a debt you need to repay.

Conclusion - most people with credit cards will end up spending more that those using cash to pay for stuff.

Once again, if you do not have savings and the cash to pay for stuff, DO NOT sign up for a credit card. And for those of you wanting to sign up for installment plan - click here and read my article 0% Installment Plan with Credit Card - It IS A Trap.
