CHM1011 and CHM1022 use the same textbook.
You can obtain the textbook from Monash's bookstore.
Alternatively, you can wait until uni starts and obtain second hand books.
Seniors will usually stick flyers on the notice boards.

There will only be one lecturer teaching each unit.
There are a few tutors for certain units though.
*
i mean tutors... you know any of the best? @@ for those units..

I'm doing it ! It's pretty good to be honest. But of course, any engineering course worldwide requires lots of work so expect to be working quite a lot more compared to Pre-U. Also expect to be reading reference books a lot more (reading around the subject). Lecturers are pretty good to be honest, although I can only speak for ENG1040, ENG1050, ENG1091, and ENG1061. Lots of students complain about ENG1061 because its not a traditional maths and science subject. It requires more of an all-round approach. Presentation skills and speaking skills together with groupwork etc. etc. I personally felt ENG1061 was a nice subject and Mr Mathew is a great lecturer. Its the subject where there are the fewest numbers of HD.

If you want to ask anything else, please do smile.gif

Oh. Thank you so much! Goin' into Monash as a freshman this Feb! And you make it sound pretty scary. *rolls eyes*

So I guess I'll have to spend a lot of time in the library doin' research and stuffs? What's HD, anyway?

Is twinning to Melbourne Uni possible? Just curious.

HD = high distinction, equivalent to an A

twinning, i don't think so, but i do know 1 or 2 people who have transfferred to melbourne uni from Monash Engineering.

Oh wait. I was told, there's no twinning in Monash but rather, transfer. yawn.gif
I see... So what's the CGPA I should be getting to graduate with a first class degree with honours?

Thank you so much! Did a lil bit of research myself. So apparently the GPA is graded as 100~80 - 4, 79~70 - 3, 69~60 - 2, 59~50 - 1. Is it true? Ain't the gaps a lil bit too much? Thought most uni apply the common ones with little gaps of GPA between each grade. Get 79 and you score a GPA of 3. yawn.gif

And just found out the Engineering that I'm doing has no honours. Ok nvm. So in order to get first class, I've to score a GPA of 4 consistently with no failure, like seriously? All info was taken from http://policy.monash.edu.au/policy-bank/ac...ale-policy.html

I think you can transfer to Clayton at the end of first year. Not too sure about Uni of Melb.

Technically you don't need to be getting 4.0 to get First Class Honours. This is because in Third Year and Fourth Year, the weighted average mark becomes much more significant. So what you do in third and fourth year matters the most. Also, on ENG1061, just attend classes and make sure you listen to what Mr Mathew is talking about. I can say this as I know many students never used to come to his class, or on the rare occasion that they would come they would sleep at the back. So yea. Take it seriously.

Getting good grades are important, but please remember to enjoy university life. =D
I didn't take that unit as it was not a compulsory unit back when I was in year one.
I heard it's easy to pass but hard to get a HD for that unit.

I'm exchanging to Monash Clayton next year if you need any advice, you are welcome to PM me.
By the way, try to make it for the buddy-buddee night, you will meet some cool engineering people there.
Cheers.

All the engineering courses in Monash Sunway are awarded with Honours.
You need to have an average grade of 75 to get a First Class Degree.
I think you might find this link below helpful
http://policy.monash.edu.au/policy-bank/ac...ale-policy.html

And no, the grading is fine.
If you get 80+ 80+ 80+ 70+, you will end up with a GPA of 3.75, which is reasonable.
Cheers.

I am not too sure about this for commerce students.
But from what I heard, you can transfer to Monash Australia if you have relatively good grades (maybe pass is all that is required).
Though commerce student have to take engineering math ENG1091 to transfer or exchange to Monash Clayton.

erm for commerce students its average of 70 and also you have to take Econ Stats instead of Biz Stats.as well as satisfy the Maths requirement which could be satisfied with either ENG1091 or a Form5 or Form6 equivalent Maths unit

All depends on how hard you study, it's not gonna be a cakewalk at VU either(I've seen their syllabus for commerce, somewhat similar to ours, but they seem to have some professional development type subjects as well). End of the day, you're gonna be doing a degree, it's not gonna be easy. If you come with a planning to coast along with mediocre results, you will fail. But if you decide to give it your all, you probably won't.

The courses in Monash imo seem to reward those who put in constant effort. Reckon it's the same everywhere else.... tongue.gif
