Oh. Thank you so much! Goin' into Monash as a freshman this Feb! And you make it sound pretty scary. *rolls eyes*
So I guess I'll have to spend a lot of time in the library doin' research and stuffs? What's HD, anyway? Is twinning to Melbourne Uni possible? Just curious. |

Oh wait. I was told, there's no twinning in Monash but rather, transfer.
I see... So what's the CGPA I should be getting to graduate with a first class degree with honours? |

QUOTE(satsugai @ Feb 2 2012, 01:46 AM) Thank you so much! Did a lil bit of research myself. So apparently the GPA is graded as 100~80 - 4, 79~70 - 3, 69~60 - 2, 59~50 - 1. Is it true? Ain't the gaps a lil bit too much? Thought most uni apply the common ones with little gaps of GPA between each grade. Get 79 and you score a GPA of 3. And just found out the Engineering that I'm doing has no honours. Ok nvm. So in order to get first class, I've to score a GPA of 4 consistently with no failure, like seriously? All info was taken from http://policy.monash.edu.au/policy-bank/ac...ale-policy.html |

QUOTE(CookieGhoul @ Feb 2 2012, 11:09 PM) I think you can transfer to Clayton at the end of first year. Not too sure about Uni of Melb. Alright. Thank you so much!Technically you don't need to be getting 4.0 to get First Class Honours. This is because in Third Year and Fourth Year, the weighted average mark becomes much more significant. So what you do in third and fourth year matters the most. Also, on ENG1061, just attend classes and make sure you listen to what Mr Mathew is talking about. I can say this as I know many students never used to come to his class, or on the rare occasion that they would come they would sleep at the back. So yea. Take it seriously. |

QUOTE(satsugai @ Feb 8 2012, 11:12 PM) not sure bout the exemptions, dont think you can get exemptions for 8 subjects(depends on the subjects you took, you'd have to check with them since its a case by case basis thing). Friend of mine who did diploma only got exemptions for two subject, lol. Whaaat? She's a senior? Hahahaha.Pros and cons, imo, as long as its a Monash degree, and you have decent results, shouldnt be a problem getting a job, or so i hear. If you want flexibility, go with biz and comm(lots of majors to choose from), if you want to focus on accounting and want to study it in depth, with a lot theories and case studies in a smaller class(hence more attention i suppose? not always a good thing though ps: lol, monash took a full page ad on Lowyat, anybody else seeing it? the girl looks familiar... |

Anyone knows what should I be enrolling for the first and second semester?
Should I take Physics or Chemistry OR Process System Analysis or Engineering Materials. I kinda hate Chemistry or I just prefer Physics over it. Not sure what kinda engineering should I be applying though. Either Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical. Lookin' forward to prompt reply. Just noticed my entourage never mentioned anything about allocating classes. DAMN. Thanks in advance. |

QUOTE(ltl170692 @ Feb 24 2012, 08:46 AM) If you're unsure of whether to pick chemical engineering or not, take PSA (process system analysis) for your 1st semester. That subject is pretty much sum up what chemical engineering is all about. (told by my tutor) If you're made up your mind to apply for chemical engineering, pick Chemistry (CHM1011) for 1st sem and PSA in your 2nd sem. You can apply for EE even you took PSA and Chemistry in your 1st year, IIRC. As for Mechanical, sorry I don't know much about it. *Between, CHM1011 is optional for chemical engineering, that's what being told by A/Prof Chan Eng Seng from last sem <- (unless they have changed it) CHM1011 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED because you will have to take Chemistry (CHM1022) in your 2nd year <- (continuation of CHM1011) QUOTE(Aar0nY @ Feb 24 2012, 03:45 PM) Hi, third year ECSE student here. Alright thanks, people. Just have one last doubt. I really really think I like Physics a lot more than Chemistry. Should I give up on Chemical Engineering? But didn't they all say any field of Engineering involves mostly and mainly on Physics?http://www.eng.monash.edu.my/engineering-a...rgraduates.html The link above shows what you need to take for each field of engineering offered at Sunway Campus. If you are torn between chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering, why not choose PSA for sem 1 and decide whether chemical engineering is your thing by the end of it. By taking PSA, you will most likely know whether you like chemical engineering. By semester 2, if you decide to go into the chemical field, take CHM1011 and if you decide to go into the mechanical field, take ENG1050 Engineering Materials. There are no fixed electives for ECSE, but some may find ENG1030 Electrical system to be a little challenging. You can still change units at the beginning of semester 2, but please do consult the person in charge of enrollment at the engineering office to double check this fact. Hope this helps, cheers. And oh, WELCOME TO MONASH =D |
