the Asynchronous crossfire allow the internal GPU to work together with discrete GPU.... the A8+AMD 6630 can potentially beat gtx460m in some game

lols... llano in short and sweet:

Use older architecture CPU, integrate it with a real dedicated GPU, to produce= APU

An all rounder!

Their concept is... an all rounder. is better than a screaming processor+a snaillish gpu.......

Which i agree.....

It wont's win intel and nvidia's dominance in upper priced markets... but it will win in budget lines... bout 2k prices..

think the brazos equiped netbooks.. cheap and powerfull.... intel+nvidia ion cost a few hundred bucks more...

Actually in real world usage, a 2GHz and 3GHz processor would have very little impact on how fast you actually perceive the system being.

Now only waiting for Asus to come out with one of their own. tongue.gif

If you go below the system's minimum requirement then you're asking for trouble lor...

Anyways, multi GPU configs are always tricky. Just 1 iffy driver can cripple the whole graphic subsystem.

Multi GPU here is for its Asynchronous Crossfire. On chip GPU + discrete GPU. If they work together properly, its performance is unbelievable for the price.

An APU is short for Accelerated Processing Unit. Basically you have your processor, memory controller and graphics processor on the same chip.

if you pair the A6 APU's 6520G graphics with a discrete 6650M you end up with 6720G2

Actually in real world usage, a 2GHz and 3GHz processor would have very little impact on how fast you actually perceive the system being.

Now only waiting for Asus to come out with one of their own. tongue.gif

I already know AMD's Llano APU is CPU+GPU under one processor, but my friend told me the 2nd gen Intel Sandy bridge has GPU inside the processor too, so what's the difference of the two?

I thought he meant integrated graphics on motherboard but he showed me a website and some diagrams of the sandy bridge architecture, it appears that there is really GPU in sandy bridge. Anyone can enlighten me?

ADDON: something like this

I am AMD supporter (never had a intel rig before to be honest) so I'm eager to know what are the differences.

Just wondering, what is the resale value? I mean, how much are you going to sell away your A42JV?

I see a lot of people actually sell their old laptops (some even have really low specs with G210M and core 2 duo) at RM2000 and below.

The resell value for mine is still quite okay. I can get back about RM1700 for it I guess. What a pity this isn't one of the most powerful 14" anymore. laugh.gif

Ivy Bridge still won't be able to beat Llano in terms of graphics I predict. And that isn't SLI, SLI only works with 2 of the same Nvidia GPUs.

Hey guys.

I found out a way to combine my Nvidia Geforce GT540M and Intel HD 3000.

Getting constant 50 - 60 fps in Call of Duty Black Ops. Max settings. 1366x768. All other graphical settings are maxed out.

I'm using this tutorial.

Thanks a lot for that. RM1700 is good. Sure people will bump into your Garage Sales thread selling your laptop next time.

Yeah, RM1700 is a good price. I think the price ceiling would be around RM1800-1900 only for my model. If I decide to sell it, I hope you guys come sarpork the thread biggrin.gif

From what i heard, Llano's graphic is indeed more powerful than Intel's HD3000. But the CPU part is said to be lower than i3.
Correct me if im wrong.

Asus A43TA

AMD A6-3400M
AMD HD6550
2GB DDR3
500GB HDD

Pricing - RM1849.

http://my.asus.com/Static_WebPage/Product_Guide/

In conclusion, not worth it yet. Can't match the Acer in terms of performance yet.

want more gaming and entertainment such as graphic "intensive" app = Llano? The naming of the AMD chips are making me go @.@

the underlying principle is the same, except that AMD took a real long time to implement it, while Intel took a little shortcut...

back when AMD acquired ATi in 2006, AMD already proposed Fusion to be the next big thing... but it was not easy merging a CPU with a GPU, particularly when GPU refreshes much quicker than CPU, so it takes time for the 2 departments to work with 1 another...

Intel has an easier time since they practically refreshes the graphic adapter together with the CPU... new CPU = new mobo chipset = new graphic adapter.... in Westmere (1st gen Core i) they merely put the CPU and GPU in the same die and connect each other with DMI, so technically the 2 are still separate from one another... it's only in Sandy Bridge that Intel merges the GPU into the CPU (the GPU can access the L3 cache of the CPU), so that's sth that is similar to AMD's APU...

so the main difference would be that the graphic on Fusion is base off the Radeon graphic that we re familiar with and thus programs and games will work as they should on other rigs with dedicated Radeon graphic as long as the driver is written correctly... as for Sandy Bridge, it does offer quite a lot of raw performance (as integrated graphic), but problem is that Intel is not too keen on updating the driver, thus not being able to perform at the max potential...

and most importantly, price... tongue.gif

they are in the same package not on the same die.
the amd gpu's cant access memory cache(L2) of the cpu but can access the system memory.

try dissect a Westmere dual core, u'll find the 2 parts are built separately...

the CPU is made in 32nm while GPU is made in 45nm, wat Intel called the "Building Block" approach, so that they can speed up the development process...

they wanted to use the same approach in Sandybridge, but with APU approaching Intel knows Building Block is not going to meet the demand for performance... and Building Block raises the cost of production as well, since u'll need 2 separate production lines to produce 2 different products...

they all on the same die..AMD allocate each core an individual L2 cache without L3 shared cache as in Intel Architecture..For AMD, the GPU communicate with CPU via IMC..i dunno how to explain thoroughly, perhaps some Pro can enlighten us tongue.gif

i was referring to the westmere. the westmere put 2 different silicon onto the same cpu package under 1 heat spreader. one for the cpu and one for the gpu. in sandy bridge theres only one silicon consist of both cpu and gpu on the same silicon die.

OIC..found an interesting article discuss on the CPU/GPU communication path..
http://hothardware.com/cs/forums/p/56168/402191.aspx

In summary,Intel has more advance connection path but sucky GPU, in contrast, AMD has an inferior/less effective CPU/GPU interconnection system but backup by a powerful GPU (which means that AMD's current design could not fully unleash its integrated GPU power)

i guess the intel's one uses more power just for the connection path. they also need large amount of L3 to store data.
well to me, the amd is easier and cheaper to implement

CPU - Intel > AMD
GPU - AMD > Intel

that's all...

the integrated GPU is not really sth that's powerful... my Athlon II x2 at home is more than sufficient to feed HD4670...

basically i would say Llano is a gamer's dream come true... the combination is perfect for playing games without costing u a limb or two...

Nah, it won't have much benefits. PCI Express X16 2.0 only have 8GB/s bandwidth each direction (16GB/s total) which means it much less than 29.8GB/s using 1.86GHz DDR3 on Llano. Its not a matter of link speed, it's a matter of GPU power.

wat Llano sells is the overall performance of the whole chip...

For AMD llano, you'd be sacrificing abit of CPU power for a much better GPU... hence its a dream come true for gamers on a tight budget wub.gif

I bet it's Acer Aspire 5560G-6344G50 since this is the only model by Acer up to now from our supplier. It uses 6720G2.

More info on the graphics card here.

Still waiting for stock to arrive and test it out.

Well, actually, see first post for details. XD

The performance of the Radeon HD 6720G2 depends greatly on the driver support for the used games. In some games the performance may even degrade by 10-15% compared to using only the APU graphics card. Currently (June 2011) only DirectX 10 and 11 graphics modes are supported and therefore lower settings and older games are not accelerated. Due to the micro stuttering and performance problems, Dual Graphics may impose more problems than bring performance gains.

If Nvidia has this technology, plus good driver support, then its going to be a success

I'm still waiting for more benchmark and performance review of the dual graphics lol

and also this my personal opinion la.... llano above 2k doesn't really worth it now.... above 2k u can get i5+nvidia/ati.....

i only noticed a few difference between my n53sv (i5 n gt 540m[oced])
and 5560g..

5560g less score (a bit) compared to my n53sv

amd a6 is 1.4ghz quad core (turboboost till 2.3) <- interesting part
coz the turbo boost actually boosts ALL cores unlike intel's single core boost till 2.9.
so far not much diff.. just cpu instructions n architecture and amd has a slightly powerful gpu compared to g 540 (stock)

Must be how the Asymmetrical CrossFireX works?

AMD.. sad to say.. I still suffer stutter in Bad Company 2(when just entered multiplayer game after 10 seconds it's ok, but recently it stutters all the way).. must be due to bad drivers.. too lazy to install driver again..
It's an Asus EAH5770 CuCore..

no u can't...

WEI will detect only the primary graphic adapter connected to the monitor...

with optimus, NV GPU merely do the rendering the graphic... the graphic is output to GMA and then to the monitor... so as far as Windows is concerned, GMA is the primary graphic of the system...

i just bought A43TA few days ago smile.gif
i love it so much rclxms.gif
i dont play game much, so i think it is way too much for me.... tongue.gif
but still i play runes of magic sometime brows.gif ... mid setting with 25 to 30+ fps

here i have screenshot of ffxiv benchmark scores (tested with Max performance setting)

what is can tell is 2gb of RAM is way too less for gaming blush.gif , that is why it take up too much on loading.... cry.gif
it only has 1.5gb usable ram and system take up around 800mb...

Question i wanna ask sifu-sifu here:
is 75c is way too hot for lappy? will it reduce durability of lappy?

Basic function is more than enough... CPU processing power pretty much affecting 3DMark06 scores and ACF doesn't work on DX9.

In asynchronous CrossFire they should be equal if not better than the GT540M for gaming.

As for the A43TA and 5560G, it's a matter of preference.

For now, GT540 is a better choice.
The cross-fire in Llano notebook seems not running well. It could be driver issue.

By specs, 6650 should be faster than 5650.

Look at the benchmark results posted in earlier page,
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1949954/+248
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1949954/+257

My 5650 has the benchmark score 7500+ in 3DMark06 and 1650+ in FFXIV.
GT540 is better than 5650.
But the 6650 doesn't seem running faster than 5650.

It could be non-optimized driver. Another possibility is, you will probably need 1600MHz ram module in order to have a better performance.
Perhaps the Llano users can test the system by using 1600MHz ram modules.

Another concern and old debate, cross-fire/SLI VS single card setup.
If both deliver the almost similar performance, you should go for single card setup.
You'll have less compatibility issue 'cos some games don't support dual-card setup.
So, until there is a better driver, GT540 is a better option for now.

Oh really? I quite doubt about those articles (im not pro though)... I dont yet test it to play a recent games (2010-2011 games). But I've test it to play old games such as SNIPER ELITE(2005) with a full screen 1280x720~1366x768 and max out all video setting without using crossfire mode. I don't experience any laggy issue. brows.gif
I think fps dont draw too much cpu power and thats why i could play it smoothly. or maybe S.E is too old to be experimented. brows.gif I prefer testing my lappy on playing latest games with very2 low res an video adjustment... sweat.gif

Maybe in terms of cpu speed the b940 sb wins la..but not in gpu...But according to lots of sifus here, the a6 performance is almost par wif i3/i5 if im not mistaken... hmm.gif

It is not 6720G.
It is 6520G. It is cross-fired with Radeon 6470.
It will become 6540G2.

If you study the actual performance, you'll find that the cross-fire is virtually not working.
Besides, refer to the earlier page, the discrete Radeon 6650 could not even perform as good as her sibling Radeon 5650 (by specs, Radeon 6650 should be better).
Therefore, it is possible that the cross-fire would not even deliver the performance near Radeon 6470.
It could be driver issue after all.

*
So should i buy the the b940 with gt 520m instead of a43ta? Better pricing and more stable perfomance?

Installing the 11.8 shouldn't give you missing driver..
You can just install it on top of your existing driver. No need to uninstall it.

Indeed.. for laptop that cost just over $550, that is a good score.

If only them geniuses at AMD didn't discard Asymmetric Crossfire support for DirectX 9 it would be perfect. Also the incomplete/buggy driver kinda ruin it too.

intel philosophy... raw CPU power....

amd nao new fusion philosophy... GPU is important too..

SB.... CPU wise... it is ahead of Llano...

gpu wise(i mean the HD3000.. nt those by nvidia or ati)... it sucks

Llano... CPu wise..it's at best... only on par with i5...

but it shines in graphics,... integrated is a ati 6520g..... while discrete gpu is a 6650m...

apu(6520g)+radeon 6650m=6720g2, crossfire..

kinda like double barrel shotgun...XD

pefect for games.XD

intel philosophy... raw CPU power....

amd nao new fusion philosophy... GPU is important too..

SB.... CPU wise... it is ahead of Llano...

gpu wise(i mean the HD3000.. nt those by nvidia or ati)... it sucks
Llano... CPu wise..it's at best... only on par with i5...

but it shines in graphics,... integrated is a ati 6520g..... while discrete gpu is a 6650m...

apu(6520g)+radeon 6650m=6720g2, crossfire..

kinda like double barrel shotgun...XD

pefect for games.XD
*
I read on the net that the apu(6520g)+radeon 6650m=6720g2 may even perform worse on certain games. I wonder who owned the Asus A43TA already tested on playing games?

Thinking of getting one but the reviews make me think twice.

I don't think u need to disable CFX, just that u probably won't get any performance gain in some games.

Make sure u install AMD CAP and set Catalyst AI to High Quality/Optimized in CCC.

If you still not fully used 4GB, the 8GB won't do any good..
and the AMD APU would love faster RAM, not more RAM..

I wanted to boast to 8GB at first but I know it will be under utilize. Won't help much unless you go for SSD or SSD hybrid. LOL...But i m so damn bad luck.
Went back home when plugged in the power adapter only realize it is not working. Luckily is not the laptop's problem. Have a spare 3rd party adapter. Else whole night cannot test.

Hold your wallet guys.. because this is SPARTA! Trinity.

Anyway it was compared with Intel HD 3000 in HP DV6, not the Radeon HD6770M D:

The setting was

AA = MLAA
AF = Trilinear
Shadows = Normal
SSAO = Normal
DOF = Normal
Post Process = On
Tesselation = On
Vsync = On
Triple Buffer = On

Eh..that one I know..I mean is there like an interface showing that your game is running on crossfire?

How to know if it is really running on crossfire instead of single?

Eg..like the cpu. We can see it at the task manager. We can see the graph is actually moving.

You can use either RadeonPro or MSI Afterburner.

In RadeonPro, you need to enable Show Crossfire logo option and Crossfire logo will appear when u start a game in xFire mode.
In MSI Afterburner, you need to enable the OSD and it will show GPU1/GPU2 if u're running on xFire mode like the image below.

Hey there, what do you guys think would be better for gaming? Between the Llano Acer Aspire 5560G with an AMD A8 processor, or the Acer Aspire 4755G? It's equipped with an i5-2410 with a GT 540M GPU. Thoughts?

Any input is appreciated. smile.gif

If you're just concerned about gaming and want to keep things affordable, the Llano system is better.

Based on what i research, the i5 processor has a higher benchmark compared to AMD A8 and camparison for both GPU, GT 540M also has a higher benchmark.

^ notto disu.. go for 4755G if u concern about CPU power.

Summary from astria sifu regarding Llano.
QUOTE(astria @ Sep 23 2011, 12:20 PM)
For Llano only

The good:
- cheap, high performance/cost ratio
- integrated graphic (or fGPU as AMD calls it) that can smoke any low end GPU in the market
- low power consumption (iirc A8 has longer battery life than Core i7)

The bad:
- medicore CPU performance
- ACF highly dependent on optimization

In a nut shell:
for those who wants mainstream graphic performance but on a tight budget, and those looking for a multimedia machine

=D feedback of A43TA temps. i don't exactly have the picture...but based on my experience on A43TA :

Normal usage : Internet, Download and Movies = The temp never exceed 55 Celsius while plugin or using battery.
Heavy usage : Games ofcoz...= I play BF2BC about an hour the temperature still maintain 50 Celsius - 63 Celsius....
rolleyes.gif

but there's a certain time that my pc temp slightly drop to 3x celsius when idle...^^ (plug in =balance)

About the K53TA information OC can be found here

yes.. you can use 4GB+2GB and that will make it asynchronous dual channel.

i suggest go for 4GB if u have the money so when u want to upgrade to 8GB you only need to throw 1 memory. tongue.gif

Yes, and that is called synchronous dual channel. When u're using 2 sticks with same speed but different capacity it's called asynchronous dual channel.

True, though ADC or DC won't have much of an impact anyways. The boost is negligible. yawn.gif

^ 72c max temp consider very good already when gaming. you can't compare laptop temp vs desktop temperature..
SB i7 can reach 90c. laugh.gif

Added on September 27, 2011, 3:46 pmi saw many user in Notebookreview forum tried to keep their Llano system under 85c when overclocked.

cz i dint use cooler pad.. i scare overheat.. u knw~ jz buy syg hehe.. i not sure laptop range temp around how much...

desktop is 65 quite high.. last time my desktop go 65.. then make me scare till go get thermal paste n heat sink..then after fix all those , now when i play my desktop how also go 40-59.. no more above 60

so liano laptop mostly around what temp? jz now my temp drop till 48 in aircond room..keep up down 4x-60
i think i know why d.. cz the setting high performance i put min and max of cpu is 100% default 1.. now cpu state performance i put 5% min max 80% maybe will better.. later put in hall see how high it go

btw amd temp is lower than intel rite?

my suggestion that this is bound to happen cuz 6750 is the same architecture as the 6650 but with GDDR5 thats the only diff with extra powered clock...

Tested Shogun 2 total wars on crossfire last night. Very disappointed. Load slower than single graphic card.

I guess what the review say is true. Some games may perform badly in crossfire mode.
