In the most optimistic corner of my mind, I feel that AVB thinks he can get the best out of these players, which is why there hasn't been a spending spree. Maybe he has astounding powers of psychological persuasion to coerce the likes of Malouda, Bosingwa, Kalou, Mikel, Ferreira and Anelka to NOT mess things up and actually EARN their paychecks.

Having said that, HAHAHAHAHAHA. No, that's really quite far fetched.

I think Roman has tightened the purse strings again after divesting 70mil of his fortune in January.

We track Aguero for years and then we just let him run off to City?

All that talk about Neymar and Lukaku has resulted in nothing again, as it never will.

Modric? Nope. Pastore? We didn't even stand a chance for some reason.

Even a transfer that had seemed straightforward like van der Wiel hasn't materialised. And we DESPERATELY need a new right back.
AVB better have something up his sleeve, otherwise we're in for a horrendous season.

since when we 'track' Aguero for years? naah don't say you hear this because of transfer rumours bro.
official bid is the only official 'proof' of we're tracking down the players.
btw it's time for u to realise this is not football manager 2011

Spoken like someone who does play a lot of Football Manager, haha.

I suppose the Aguero news for the past few years has all been fabricated and something I learned through a computer game? Just because you don't agree doesn't mean my opinions aren't valid.

Oh, I'm sure you think this team, much like last season's is good enough to win everything? There's a fine line between being supportive and deluded.

Yes, I realize that transfers aren't something easily done with click of a mouse. But surely the spot Chelsea put themselves in last season was the straw that broke the camel's back. We've needed to fortify the spine of the team for years now. We've merely made do on what we have. Think about it, the core of the team is over 30. Drogba, Cole, Lamps, Terry are all in the twilight of their careers.

While other top teams are moving on, we're just holding on.

Actually I do share your concerns bro,and i'm sure many here feel the same way.the thing is we're just trying to remain as optimistic as possible, looking ahead to the new season.

It does get annoying when it appears we're missing out on player after player but I guess its just that much difficult competing with the likes of city, barca and madrid for top targets.

Well what are we to do mate?my only hope is AVB has the cajones to drop the 'big players' when he realises they're out of gas midway through the season,IF we end up with only modric or worse,no one at all.

Btw,i believe the aguero rumours had some truth in them,as atletico claimed we made a 50 million pound bid for both him and diego godin which the club didn't exactly deny.

After splashing out £50m on Torres and seeing him struggle for service, wouldn't the natural thing to do be buy players who can provide that creative outlet?

A playmaker and wingers are essential to getting Torres to function. Otherwise they're just throwing him into a system and hoping for the best.

Yes, AVB should demonstrate intestinal fortitude to drop the big names when the going gets tough but who do we replace them with?

As much as I'd love for us to field McEachran for 50 games, he isn't up to it yet. And neither do we want to run him into the ground at this age.

The bare minimum recruitments are a right back and playmaker. Otherwise we'll be seeing Giggs stroll through our right flank when united visit and Torres moping on the pitch while waiting for a ball that never comes.

High hopes for Romeu though. If we're fortunate, e could turn out to be Chelsea's Busquets (without the theatrics).

Well so far, I never heard that we have made any official bid for aguero for the past few seasons (i'm not sure on this sweat.gif ) and the last time I heard about this rumours when our spokeperson officially denied we make any bid to Atletico. << the same time when we're trying to pursue David Luiz.

I believe, as long there's no official bid, it's just a paper talk & yes might be fabricated one just to sell their news. icon_rolleyes.gif

same goes to Lukaku & v der wiel. Claimed all the talks that we want, if we do not put any bid, (which also means we're not interested for both players, yet?) why talk so much? hehehe
brows.gif

it's not we're holding on. We DID try to sign either pastore or modric (by putting an official bid to both club), only so far not materialize yet. AvB clearly had a big concerns on our creative department.this is an extremely by far the biggest concern for us now.

As for striker or right back position, I think it's far than enough edi.

i am worried about our 30++ capabilities for new season...although pre-season was good...BPL is totally different arena...we need to be concentrate, quick, agile & well prepared...
fingers crossed...but i have faith in villas-boas.

Chelsea summer transfer for the past few season is not very exciting, maybe the same this summer. The last player coming in during summer that get me excited was Deco in 2008 if not mistaken.

Regarding our oldies player especially lampard and drogba, hopefully they will not play every weak. Save them for the big matches or when we chasing a game (as sub).
