Any recommendations for a good DAC pairing for the Mac Mini. I'm half  way there with the Centrance Dacport LX but am wondering if there are better solution than that.

2011 Mac Mini --- ? DAC --- Burson Audio HA-160 - Beyer T1.

Also, what are my options of connecting to these DAC? And which connection is better.

any recommendations much appreciated.

i would like to go with Cambridge DACMagic, but not sure how it fare against DACPort

the LX would offer you the best portability, but since you've got the HA-160, do you still need your setup to be transportable?

MAC Mini -> Optical / USB -> DAC

Already purchased the DacPort LX. I was mulling this over, I could get the Fostex HP-A3 tomorrow in Osaka, but sonic differences aint that much, unless I migrate to the bigger ones like DacMini. I took my chances with DACPort LX and I like what I hear.

Maybe next month when I get my pay, I'll go for a proper desktop DAC and incorporate the DACPort LX with my portable setup (MAcBook Air+DACPort LX+ HP=P! + DT1350/D2000).

The LX would make a great addition to your portable setup.

Desktops you have loads of options, depending on how much you want to spend. Several that offers good value: Meier stageDAC, Cambridge DAC magic and Stello DA100. Prices should be around rm2.5k, and they should be available off the shelves, I did not recommend anything that requires build time.

Meier StageDAC is carried by Jaben, Stello's distributor is Rave Systems at Lot1.4, Level 1, PNB Darby Park. No.10 Jalan Binjai, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, telly: 03-21632818. i got the Rave Systems contacts off the net, not sure if it's still valid though.

Should you pass by or is in Singapore, Stello and Cambridge (among others) can both be found in Adelphi, together with Jaben.

Wow appreciate the responses guys! Will keep these model names and options in mind.

I'm leaving for Osaka, will head to Yodobashi to check of these choices are available the and compare the price. Yes, the same outlet you are Jude of Headfi.org went to for his headphones adventures during the Headphones festival there.

never seen this kinda stuff, should be not much power there since it splits into separate outputs, distributed power perhaps? how many headphones u wanna put in? you gonna use all the outputs? if 2 only you are better off with a audinst mx1

the RCA outs are line outs, meaning by passing the amp section. basically no volume control.

always sue the 1/4 headphones output for connection to headphones, the RCA out is for connection to another amplifier.

I have SBDE HD and Sony xba4. Bass is more and tighter in the phone out.
Howerver SBDE HD output impedance does not go well with xba4, atleast for me.
So for xba4 I will line out from HD to another amp instead.

Hey guys,

Don't feel like starting another thread for this, so I'll just ask here.

I've been poisoned further again, and now I'm demanding even more out of my headphones. I'm thinking of adding a Schiit (lol) Asgard as my main amp to my desktop. Currently using DACport as both amp+DAC. What do you guys think?

I was thinking of using my DACport as a line-level DAC, connect to Asgard via RCA where I'll jack in my Denon D5K from the Asgard. Will it work? Does it count as double-amping or will the DACport completely bypass its amping and pass that to the Asgard? hmm.gif

TL;DR : Foobar2k --> DACport --> Asgard --> Denon AHD5000? Feasible or plain pointless? I heard the Asgard compliments low-impedence cans like the Denons, Grados and Audio Technicas, so I'm really interested.
