Anyone can recommend me a good portable DAC/amp for AKG Q460?  icon_question.gif

AKG Q460 spec:

Frequency Response 11Hz - 29.5kHz
Maximum Input Power 30 mW
Input Impedance 32 ohms
Sensitivity  125 dB SPL/V

Budget wise, keep it below RM2000 sweat.gif

Go to Tong Lee Co. at Low Yat Plaza with your lappy, pmp, headphones and ask to test the FiiO E17 nod.gif

As for the PMP, you can go either Apple or back with Sony. Those with the proprietary dock connector preferred. nod.gif

Tong Lee Co? What floor? hmm.gif

Anyone has experience with Govibe Magnum/Vest/Portatube? Considering these 3 amps now. I need a powerful portable amp because sometimes I will bring K702 to college use also... :/

Edited: Will these 3 amps I mentioned above overkill for Q460? icon_question.gif

Hey guys, I'm very close to taking the plunge to getting the Sennheiser HD800, and understand that to take advantage and to drive it properly, an amplifier is prudent. What amplifiers are recommended to be able to use the HD800 to its full potential?

The kicker is, the setup will have to be portable. Not for me to wear while walking around, but portable enough to be brought around to work/location and enjoyed at that location. My work involves traveling, therefore the need for a portable/transportable solution. I've my own Beyerdynamic DT1350/Headamp Pico/ ALO LOD/iPod Classic for my walking around portable solution and that works fine, but I'm itching to try and see if the HD800 is a step up experience from that setup.

I've been recommended the Just Audio AHA-100 and GoVibe PortaTube, although I have also hear the Stepdance being a good pair for the HD800.

Any other options are highly appreciated. Thanks!

I've replied you in the Senn thread and just thought i would add more here, since the info here is slightly more than over there.

the HD800 is definitely gonna be a step up, technical performance-wise. While the HD800 is not that hard to drive, you really need a full desktop setup (reads a good desktop amp & source) to really showcase its capabilities.

IMO you have 2 options here now:

1. get the HD800 and build a desktop setup around it.

2. If you still want a transportable setup - you should consider getting other headphones that would pair up with the amps you mentioned.

So it looks like either I upgrade my home setup and stay homebound, or abandon the dream of a transportable setup from the way it was advised by you two.

I've read the same pairing recommendation about the Burson Audio on HeadFi. The reason I was semi-hopeful was the Headfonia review on the Just Audio AHA-120, that made me think it was possible to do the transportable setup.

I hate the fitment of the Audeze, and have tried the T1 and hadn't really got me thinking day and night to get it.

Sigh, looks like it's a no go for me. But I should thank you for saving me from an investment that I might well regret later on.

for transportable, find the 250 ohm beyers instead, much more transportable amp options
