QUOTE(vioxmonsta @ Jun 10 2012, 10:14 PM) Aaron, these are made by skf. ABEC is a rating given to bearings. The ones we are getting are ABEC 5 stainless steel bearings. Where as from Boca, you get to choose between ceramic and steel bearings. |

QUOTE(wetwetwater @ Jun 9 2012, 02:54 PM) I saw that ad too. Sounded too good to be true. LOL! Any idea ori bearings are of what grade? Basically ABEC ratings in bearing is more towards the capability of the bearing, in term ofBut according to this, it did improve distance. http://fishinglifestyle.net/2012/02/boca-b...sting-distance/ 1. resistance 2. RPM 3. precision Resistance - pressure on the bearing RPM - optimum or maximum rotating speed of the bearing Precision - all those little little gaps between parts of the bearings The only reason why you get a distance when you put in precision bearings, is because of your previous bearings are worned out!!! Imagine you having your reel for the last 2~5 years, and tiba-tiba change another bearing and you get like 15~20% distance...??! Even if you change to a stainless steel bearing of Abec1 rating, could get you those ratings Allow me to share a little of my 2cents knowledge of bearing ![]() i've done some test personally and there are some discovery too. For cleaning 1. remove the retainer 2. remove the shield 3. place into zippo or kerosene 4. spin accordingly 5. 1 drop of daiwa oil 6. place on the tip of pencil and spin using thumb To get higher speed 1. remove the retainer and shield Note: debris may get caught in between easily, regular clean up please. Here's a read up of ABEC and bearings info http://www.lushlongboards.com/workshop/abe...-c-199_200.html *just noticed the image attached is missing the retainer. It is just a C shaped clip that ensure the shield does not come out from the bearing frame. Also, there are bearings that does not have a shield but merely a piece of thin plastic that is slotted into the framework to prevent dust. Boca Orange Seal for example. Most of the Boca users i know from Singapore, removed the orange colored plastic for easy maintenance. This post has been edited by rorytate: Jun 11 2012, 09:32 AM |

Hey guys, I plan to get this Pen Fishing Rod thingy for impromptu fishing while I do my traveling and have been looking around for some time, but mostly I found the cheap ones have really bad quality and was build as a toy rather than some proper fishing.
I found this website from U.S http://penfishingrods.com/shop/ and they claim that theirs is of much more quality than any others out there.. was quite skeptical until I saw some of the videos... Not sure why the youtube thingy not working here... can check this link instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4T8qT5q-V0 There's a lot more videos on the website.. Since I plan to get some, and they are charging me USD$20 for shipping no matter how many rods/combos that I am buying. So I thought that you guys want to join in and get some for yourself then we can share the shipping. 1. Chun - USD$29.99 - NEW 5' ft. 3" in. Pen Fishing Rod Goliath Front Drag Combo! x1 2. Chun - USD$14.00 5' ft. 3" in. Pen Fishing Rod Goliath x1 3. Rorytate - USD$29.99- NEW 5' ft. 3" in. Pen Fishing Rod Goliath Front Drag Combo! x1 4. 5. 6. Product page can be found here http://penfishingrods.com/shop/products.php?category_id=13 If you only wan the rods, and not the reel there's only 2 type to choose from (but note that normal reels won't fit unless u make some modifications). Normally you can't buy the rods only, but because I'm already buying the combo sets, they allow me to addon to my order. a) $14.00 5' ft. 3" in. Pen Fishing Rod Goliath and b) $12.00 4' ft. 9" in. Pen Fishing Rod Extreme I think both has a length (before extending) of about 8 inches. I think bro Inv will want to get one to challenge the red tails....
