Hi. There has been many threads about ICE recommendation, setup concept sharing, question and answer, chit chat, flaming (torching each other. yes how can we missed that out??) And we have a lots of enthusiastic ICE kaki who are passionate on embarking on the ICE journey. Regardless you just started as a newbie in ICE or you have gained the "black belt" in ICE. We welcome you to drop by here, order some nasi lemak and teh tarik, grab a table and sit down with each other to talk about your hobby, a.k.a ICE. We just bought a lot in Jalan F&F (Fast&Furious), renovated the shop and today, we have officially opened!

LOWYAT ICE KAKI KOPITIAM CORNER!

Hahahaha... That fler stock setup only. laugh.gif

He blasts his music like no tomorrow, and he likes "stadium" effect. Finally, I know what is stadium effect... Really nice too sometimes, but the problem is I'm not sure if the music can still be heard clearly when the road noise increases.

Ok, is not satisfactory to me. I want the feeling like the logo in icehifi.com ... laugh.gif

welp! until you get a 12" ported sub with a appropriately sized box, you will always be "OK" for a good portion of music i listen to lol.

speaking of your setup anyways, i am wondering if your mid bass is enough to cope with 時の傷痕 toki no kizuato aka scars of time

11+ years ago playstation 1 game by squaresoft (now known as square enix)

for my take:
my AD900 headphones, while lacking bass, have the clarity it needs (your setup per say).

on the other hand, my car, or PC speakers, have the bass, and it definitely results in a more "fun and livelier" listening experience, and most definitely make the more upbeat portion of the song a ton more exciting.

I tried Scars of Time in my setup. This song has many instrument used and i fell that its all coming out mixed together. I think I will need better clarity : 3

hor, dear pulak.

well, your next upgrade is obviously a 3 way, since having that clearer mid is quite important as i have learned from having my recently purchased headphones, and further confirmed after auditing mywifecar's setup smile.gif

haha nice tune, glad you enjoy the CDs. though, at that speed, with 1 hand on the camcorder, and going through a yellow traffic light, ain't exactly the best thing to record down if you get what i mean tongue.gif

The actual musician in the video playing their instrument. Apparently in japan there are alot of independent musicians. Surprisingly talented but not known. They are active in nico nico douga but some managed to slip out in youtube.

Anyhow feels like we've hijacked the thread...

if you're determined enough, you can request them to sell (some would be more than glad to give it to you for free! not necessarily need to have the CD shipped, you can always request for a master recording [which is WAY BETTER than a CD press LOL!] ) to you tongue.gif

and yes, im well aware of those musicians too, they tend to mask/censor their identity too, like that horse head guy, or even the famous "tissue-hime" (no idea how he got that nick though lol, which literally meant tissue princess)

and the thread is kopitiam corner, whats to hijack? rolleyes.gif

well i have a certain preference over bassist, and tissue hime would be one iconic one.

now hjfreak, maybe if hes like tissue hime and cut down on the gags, or even conceal his face, i would've taken a liking to him too. i mean, i cant help it that the mind f*** is killing my brain for me to enjoy his bassist skills LOL!

well, I prefer irojiro0318 over tissue hime. Simply he's a guy and he can run solo bass very well. Got captivated 1st time when he played both electric and bass on supercell cover.

not sure if it fits ur needs, however lowyat plaza itself have lots of places that sell cd covers/cases. i dont think they will be able to hold the cover together as most only lets you to hold CD.

so before invest into ice, pls make sure u drive the car. :>

maybe i was silly to say this as i am in this field, but it's truth......

Contestant A : "The judge damn "sui" (water)... I used 7" mid and he still complaint my bass is not strong enough".

I didn't get to see his car, but this was a comment I heard from the recent EMMA competition.

he butthurt your setup sound better than his but lack a lil bit bass than his... =D

but seriously... 7" drivers doesnt mean anything about big bass...
1. speaker built, take the cheap visaton for example... they are not going to produce bass as much as a 18W or my RM60 bmboschmann coaxials... =D i know because i sell my ride time i buy from "kyjelly" oops.gif (he say cheap till laosai mah) one cheap cheap set... my RM60 bmboschmann coaxial better bass reproduction...
2. speaker baffling, no rigid... of course no bass la... thats why got si-beh-siao rich dude used copper baffles before...
3. soundproofing, this one do no sui, or cincai do... also no bass no matter you scanspeak or not...
4. your amp underpower... no matter from alternator supply or the amp itself memang boh-9-lat... also in the end boh lat "tum-tum-tum" one mah....

Actually there are a few thoughts in my head....

Judge is still human, and ppl will have different preferences... What makes you think your 7" is definitely a winner? Feel like telling him, like that if I use Focal Utopia...then I sure champion dy la...?
Also when I was in Sg EMMA, I saw a few MP-Z series... but if I am not mistaken, only 1 was a winner.

Anyhow, what I want to say is: To get a good sound system, the equipments, installation and tuner make a hell lot of difference... Brand is just a start and a guidance.

Actually, I think the 7" installation got problem la...or else, his car would be shaking already with the bass.

P.S:This is competition level , If they don't do some basic soundproofing, is like wearing a Bersih 2.0 shirt but yet, dunno what is it... laugh.gif

if i tell u my rs pro 6.5inch (no soundproof, no steel ring) had better midbass than my scans 18W (alpine f1) with steel ring and some soundproof.... will u believe or not? 2003 midbass scores were higher than 2004 and 2005

amp also made a difference, before alpine f1 i used xetec, very dynamic & powerful amp

Yes, I agree... most of the time it is up to the car build. But I must emphasize that competitors will do whatever they can to have the extra edge and become the eventual winner... That includes soundproofing the door.

This I would like to know more. Can anyone enlighten me on this.

Or can someone pls explain what is sound proofing as oppose to sound dampening? Cos i read somewhere that too much of these or either (dunno which one) would reduce the acoustic effect inside the car thus reducing the sound quality.

This one I'm not sure. I don't think I have overly soundproof my door, I only made it more rigid so that the mid bass can be harder and stronger.
...also, someone help me to cut a big hole for the speakers to give it more space. cry.gif

WTA.

I saw a few japanese car audio setup. Most of them have their components installed in a weird position. The tweeters are just next to the foot (Not next to the mids. But the foot pillars. Why do they installed it in such a way. is it a regulation?

Kick panel installations. suppose to give equal path length distances. (proper center staging with less TA). May introduce other probs like low stage or less detail. (if i remember correctly)

probably the best place if you emphasize a lot on tonality...
not the best place for staging...

american do kick panel installation a lot, bcoz their cars are left hand drive, so they got no accelerator problem, plus their cars are HUGE compared to ours. for our small right hand drive vehicles, the accelerator pedal kacau a lot, not really good results

but a pillar installation were done in asia and europe first, now most americans also follow, not many kick panel installations anymore.

i guess that indirectly explains boston flagship ICE to be rather "coaxial" focused. or more accurately, the design etc cope with coaxial installations very well. from what i know at least, its pretty much the best coaxial solution i've ever seen. (not that i would bother about it though lol)

u need this baby..
awesome DAC(dedicated) designed to play all iPad,iPhone,iPod
in-built DAC on the iProducts cant perform. need a aftermarket dedicated DAC
*need to custom build a PSU to run in car
*further improved by employing a more serious build on PSU reservoir + decoupling

yea..awesome site for ppl into this

if u like his bass, u should have listen to it 3months ago. big difference!!
same sub but mods on his DAC were removed!! pity..sob sob

not to worry, i will produce a system in my new old ride. definitely for bass lover. u will notice a pronounced effect on the sub low extension + density. will be able to play all kinds of music. range from audiophile music to generic pop/r&b. from RM145 CD to RM25 CD's. the setup will be the same for all CD's, no tuning adjustment or other preset needed. 1 tuning/preset for all CD's..
dats the ideal setup. sounds good even on normal CD's..

burn CD's are NOT allow..only original..lol

its a hybrid, meaning your car can play too, but it wont use the SACD side (aka your just playing normal CD. which, you're prolly better off getting SHM CDs tongue.gif)

dah past raya

anyways

some things that human beings can hardly (if not never?) change is that, they never realize how precious some things are to them until they lost it

in this case, it would be how much i missed my AD900 headphones (previously was sent for warranty repairs). finally got the time around to listen to it. and its just a bliss ^^

now need to spend money on good CDs already. Alot of crap CD's in Speedy man! Few days ago bought MLTR and Enrique Iglasias for rm50 for 2 discs but turned out the quality was crap. Should've known since theres a 'Made for Malaysian Market' sticker up front doh.gif

wav is terribad for the size/quality ratio lol. then again hoping for a HU to support FLAC, one can only dream as FLAC do require a bit of processing.

an alternative is a DAC/portable player that runs FLAC, and have that AUX'ed in with good interconnects.

then again, EFFORT sad.gif

part of the fault is to be blamed on the software used for ripping WAV, the settings, the CD/DVD/BD player used in the ripping process..a few times I tried ripping WAV from the exact same CD audio, at times I could hear difference such as jitter exist, had to redo the rip again for perfect rip..

FLAC's are compressed version of WAV with extra bits of info like title and artists built into it. Its like a .zip or .rar for music files to put it simply, so WAV and FLACs are supposed to sound exactly the same lol. Thats why WAV is so huge in the first place, and FLACs are only around half the size of WAVs.

FLACs do have better error correction and mainly is the way how the audio samples are ripped and proceed within the flac container file. If there are errors from ripping, it can help amend it to a certain extent, not perfect, but its better than nothing and most faults/degrade created from this error correction is not noticeable to most except the most sensitive of ears (sorry i dont have said golden ears whistling.gif )

WAV in a nutshell is a RAW data dump with almost zero processing (size aside, this also means no error correction/fault tolerance) and if your WAV ripping is bad, you have no choice but to rip again

all that said, the above error correction/fault tolerance is ALSO dependant on the CD ripping software that utilizes the encoder/codec of FLAC (or WAV)

there are many enhancements/updates for FLACs no doubt, however for WAV, it is very limited as it is:
- a very "ancient" codec
- data container size too huge
- not feasible as an archive medium even in today's HDD capabilities. We also have much better processors which would utilize the processing requirement of FLACs

also, people who are generally "fond" of WAVs are "analog people", aka the less hipster dudes which, you'd think they would provide updates/enhancements to the ripping/encoding of the codec unlike FLAC? tongue.gif

in all honesty they'd much rather just original CD it than go through the hassle to rip -> WAV -> burn CD (additional point of failure here, seeing the pattern?)

i still find that the FLACs are still converted from a temporary WAV file (automatically created by software) when I've used the software to direct rip the CD Audio to FLAC format..the WAV will be automatically deleted by the software after successfully converting to FLAC, in simple words CD Audio>>WAV (temporary)>>FLAC...maybe it's just my software rip things differently, i'm not sure..

the software that I've used is Exact Audio Copy, how about you all?? any other better softwares?

no it doesn't work that way. there is no temporary WAV file and WAV is totally not involved at all, it's a direct source -> FLAC encode. feel free to wiki/google info on FLACs smile.gif

if your software has a WAV process, id say your software got issues lol. and to be honest, the WAV would be another point of failure, because if the ripping got issues, WAV won't correct it and what your WAV has, will be carried over to FLAC.

not to say its wrong, its just additional hassle and wasting time, not efficient at all. and computers are supposed to make your life easier (more efficient smile.gif )

actually, are you sure exact audio copy does a temp WAV before FLAC encode? initially i wanted to use that, but its full of bugs, program crashes it self and even occasionally crashing my windows.

in the end i gave up on it and sought out an alternative and thats what im using now ever since for many years already.

yes, EAC does a temp WAV during the CD ripping process..once ripping done, the temp WAV is converted to FLAC in a split second, then done..

i'm using the latest version of EAC, you could try it and see how it behaves this time compared to many years ago..

guys, wav is just the extract from cda.....there's no different between them....

cda is just a icon for the cd player to go to the correct place to get the file inside a cd.....because music player dun need so many info than a pc, the cda icon is just a guide....the real file inside cd is the wav.....

no matter wat software u use, the software are gonna turn the cda into wav and then convert it to the file u need.....some use temp wav file, while some use their special file format...no difference ler....

Added on September 21, 2011, 12:00 amwat i mean is wav is the same copy from the cd source...maybe some may confuse...

are you sure? it takes WAY MORE than a split second for any audio file to encode into FLAC lol!

and nah, ill pass on EAC, pretty much done with it to even bother tongue.gif

to be more accurate, wav is just a raw data dump (as i have already said in earlier post) from the CD. CDA is a pointer on data location/length within a CD for legacy players as they cant just grab raw data and determine which is which unlike a PC ripping software.

Encodes such as mp3 or FLAC which are direct data -> encode will require a "temp storage" in which a buffer will be created, some uses a temp WAV file, others is just a direct memory allocation or cache file allocation.

not correct as:
Free Lossless Audio Codec

sheesh people need to read up lol:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Lossless_Audio_Codec

and in almost every aspect, FLAC > WAV
however it requires processing power which HUs arent equipped with

many PMP (portable music player) these days came with FLAC support, however battery lifespan is totally horrible, and/or their internal DAC/software is bad to compensate for the FLAC processing requirement

flac just wins wav in other technicalities other than audio quality. in terms of audio quality its exactly the same lol. just that flac adds metadata and some other random supports.

Haiz sorry lah, been so busy with my life that I din read through thoroughly the exact definition and other technical details of digital audio packaging, compression and such.

I figured I'd just do the layman thingy and ask "Yo, dun wanna know technicalities, just tell me which I should use."

Again (at the risk of you pointing me to some wiki), audio quality-wise with no rats ass given to alogarithim or size of file or high tech compression 1s and 0s,

Is FLAC > WAV ? (PS judging criteria as printed above)

since they are both lossless, yes by right they should be the same.
and FLAC stands out because of the technicalities (for one, better error correction during direct encode from ripping)

other than those technicalities, you can basically claim they are the same.

if you can, FLAC lo. cant, WAV lo (HUs cant ma, that said, ur HU can WAV tak? i know even for CDA, also damn picky ady and spat out my cd couple of times lol! tongue.gif)

anyways as i said on my prev post, assuming that there are zero errors during ripping for both FLAC/WAV, same source, then no, there are no difference smile.gif

what the youtube i posted?

CD is around 1.5k yen. single shipping from amazon jp is around/minimum 2k yen.

3.5k yen is rm140++

Disc: 1
1. My Dearest
2. 罪人
3. 大貧民
4. My Dearest (TV Edit)
5. My Dearest -Instrumental-
6. 罪人 -Instrumental-
7. 大貧民 -Instrumental-
8. My Dearest (TV Edit) -Instrumental-
Disc: 2
1. My Dearest (Music Video)
2. ギルティクラウン (PV VER.2)
3. ギルティクラウン (オープニングムービー)

^

considered VERY generous for a single, as most only comes with around 2 songs, and 2 instrumentals/vocal-less which totals at most/around 4 tracks

where got la lol.

ei when free TT? i wanna try out my LIA album on your EMMA #1 car rolleyes.gif

my amp currently masuk back jaben for some fix, grounding issue, prolly during transport (or howie failing on handling lol) the thin grounding solder point broke from the case and now got some static noises.

basically, cant enjoy my album fully. my newly bought C3 speakers (the one you saw that day lol) cracks a bit on her high notes, and my car's tweeters are quite harsh for her high notes lol.

as a reward, if you want i can copy the album's FLAC or mp3 including the scans (if you even want it, its all in japanese though lol. but theres a nice fully colored mini art book smile.gif )

i don't care if you've spent 20 or 50k in ICE, or win championships at EMMA, attending live concerts, hearing and seeing the performance right in front of your eyes from the artists you love is still the best biggrin.gif

It was so embarrassing just now.

My car stop at traffic light and then this David Guetta song :
kick in....

The whole rear view mirror also shake....

...Then I got the "look" from the aunties in the car beside me. blush.gif

nola, apparently somehow the seal at the connector got breached so air was causing the thing to create funny sounds which at first we thought was a damaged voice coil or spider. Opened it up and found out no faults at all... until we put it in the box. After applying some crap to the inside of the box, problem solved! laugh.gif

Oh... you can. You are welcome too.

I have UR bars installed for under carriage, and a front strut. Rear absorber recently changed to IMP Comfort.

You can take for a spin, but please don't drive more than 10km/h.

The rest all quite standard setup.

always learning new things and experiencing something new with each TT smile.gif

mainly:
got a much better idea on how to scale my budget for my future ICE too haha (first time experiencing MP3 compression loss in an ICE setup) so i know where i should stop on the budget as anything more would be a waste. that is assuming alpine/pioneer doesnt come up with FLAC HUs laugh.gif

something about what zenn/krayden mentioned on time alignment with tonality. i never fully understood it before, now i do. (was playing my Key x LIA album, something very vocal and orchestra centric, lighthearted and slow) Sound stage was very, cramped, faked and sorta "squeezed" to the center, it felt very wierd and very unlively, or simply, just not fun to hear. the moment TA gets turned off, woah everything starts "moving" as it should again.

yet another step in shaping up how i want my ICE to be biggrin.gif
thanks everyone especially mywifecar for organizing it, and howiechoo for letting us use his place/shop, and his maestro headphone to TT as well biggrin.gif

as i told howie that day, had maestro released back then when i was buying my headphone, that would be yet another headache to consider brows.gif
that 3-4 hours+ or so auditioning at jaben would probably end up waaaay longer hahaha

yesterday also tested mp3 compression losses in my car with mywifecar and thundergod for fun. Since got the Adele CD, we compared side by side mp3 320kbps vs CD and once the vocals come in, its a night and day difference. Thundergod laughed when the mp3 vocals came in LOL laugh.gif

The day I even consider a 10K amp, I should be driving my dream car - Subaru WRX. biggrin.gif

The 602 is very old skool already right? Because I can only find 302 from their official page.

no way this amp is known as ol' skool man.
its 'the amp' for any car audio setup..
some people say, you'll 'lau chap' after auditioning the amp...hehe

notice the 2 tities sticking out. they are NOT transformer for the power supply.
its a output transformer for speaker output..hence music reproduction amazing!!
i believe there isnt any class AB amp with output transformer in car audio other than this.

this is my new toy, my on-going research for car audio preamp
output tranny!! so sexy

Ok guys, new season means i am throwing my money towards singers singing fantastic songs that i love. However alas, so many want, so little monies. and i am undecided on who to pick. So i ask of you guys to help me in my decision making biggrin.gif
(i will be picking 3-5 depending on my monies upon pulling the trigger)

nominees in no particular order:

QUOTE

she's 15, just friggin unbelievable  shocking.gif

kawada mami being my all time favorite, this is almost a sure pick despite the terribad synthesized engrish D: D: D:

also a favorite, been following her since her debut, and heh same age and went to her concerts numerous times XD

ah KOTOKO. those familiar with anisong would definitely be familiar with her. simple youtube and you can see loads of her videos/songs biggrin.gif

Always been a little fan for nomizu iori. considering she is pretty damn cute IRL along with most of her character she voiced. while this particular track isnt much compared to the other big shots i have picked, i am always up for a good rock tune and this track has just that smile.gif

Ah kalafina, always enchanting with their choir like singing with a touch of modern music. ever since their debut of the anime-movie kara no kyoukai (aka the garden of sinners) and continue to rise in popularity amongst anisong listeners. personally i haven't physically own any one of their singles/albums (i think, i am starting to lose track of what CDs i own these days T^T) so i think i am looking forward to this as well heh.

please ignore the video animation as the original got took down/privatized and this is fan made "MAD" which features 2 [rather mad lol] characters in the show
to quote the video desc:
キャスター組リタイア記念に作ってみました。
龍之介メインになってます。あとキーはひとつ下げています。
Kyasutā-gumi ritaia kinen ni tsukuttemimashita. Ryūnosuke mein ni nattemasu. Ato kī wa hitotsu sagete imasu.
which roughly means:
"i tried to make a video to commemorate the retired 'caster team'.
Ryunosuke is the main, 'after lowering the one key' " (ok the last part i cant get it)
google translate:
I made to commemorate the retired set caster.
Has become the main Ryunosuke. After one key has been lowered.

Haruna Luna, not much info for this girl, and from the looks of it, is a debut single and omfg the voice and the music behind this song. just so beautiful. for more info:
http://myanimelist.net/people/15651/Luna_Haruna (got video of her anisong grand prix singing competition too as she entered it and won 4th place under a different alias IINM)
so guys, 7 singles. and only monies for 3-5. so please help me vote away biggrin.gif
please help me vote on 1-7 in your own preference (and why if possible)

=edit=
updating videos that are removed/private or whatever issue.
will keep post updated until i have made the final decision smile.gif

Cannot agree more, I've seen some cap ayam HU that can reach near RM200 as well. Might as well top up a little to get something better, especially when there are a lot of decent HU from reputable brands for those on tight budget. biggrin.gif

is it just me or i am recently seeing more car related posts from you all across the FNF boards and its sub forum? lol

and yea, no point wasting money on something that is sub par where you can top up a bit more (save 1 month more of salary? even a part timer should have no prob doing this) for something worth buying smile.gif

but for my car, the stock speaker is really nothing to shout about, and its only 2 way at rear. I wonder the sound quality will be any nicer if i use a better HU.

Yes the HU is worth buying but I doubt is it worth to install to an old car? ...let's say if i have a plan to change a car within one year, not confirm but just a plan

dilemma now..imma considering : a entry level branded with USB HU will be around RM3XX, or china branded one that cost RM1XX... sweat.gif

Yes. the tuner did told me this.

So before this, my setup tuned based on EMMA test CD and how it will be judged.

After giving a try to reset and tuned based on MACE test CD and how it will be judged, i realize songs get more background details on the instruments that previously i cant notice it was there when based on EMMA.
1 thing i dislike MACE tuning is the songs sometimes sounds noisy compare to EMMA is much clean. rclxub.gif

So sifu zennn personally prefer EMMA or MACE tuning? Hehe..

why base a tuning on competition reference and not what YOU prefer? are you or the EMMA/MACE judges enjoying your ICE?

Anyway, sifu quazacolt.. so you are EMMA kaki or MACE kaki? Hehe..

unless you're having some really good/reputable brand with good pairing amp that can drive your DVC subwoofer.
