of course it's noticable.. enough to know if the torque converter is locked up or not,  but its not as pronounced as a low tech cvt box type of rubberband effect..

Cvt is low tech? This is the first time I ever heard such a statement, in fact, a lot of car manufacturer trying to make a reliable cvt gb which can also withstand high torque and high hp engine, but until now still a failure.

those lower end cvt la. like in old hondas or those 90s era car which have very pronounced rubberband effect. new ones like my teana comes with xtronic , doesnt have that rubberband effect when launching the car, yes newer ones can tahan until 3.5L engine torque.

just saw display optima in a shopping mall here at jb. Was always skeptical regarding the interior but that was totally washed away as being face to face as to watching hours of video really proved me wrong and was a solid and luxurious interior with a muscular presence which matches the exterior .

Only reason why I am holding back is that I really wished the turbo version would come in even thou I know due to petrol grade issues and its inability to support GDI engines.

Second reason is due to the very limited color choice.

If these two reasons were addressed then I would definately get one for sure!

There are no test drive units anywhere and wont be for some time. Even the Kia Sportage doesnt have a test drive unit till now despite being launched in Q3 2011.

The Optima is a much better car generally compared to the Sonata. Better specs and suspension system. Interior design wise the Sonata is better but interior quality is poor compared to the Optima.

I dont think Naza has any plans to bring in the turbo at all. As for the color, i think the Silver is a good choice with the White coming in second. So even though they dont have many choices, but the colors that they do have are good enough i guess.

nah, compared to the full range in other countries, the three color choices here are so dull and boring.

Yeah Naza wont bring the turbo but they might bring in the hybrid version, not sure that uses the GDI but it is plausible.

Well a 2.0L Hybrid wont be cheap for sure and that being a Korean make, it won't sell well in Malaysia. So i doubt they will bring that in too. So dont hope for either.

never doubt or predict sales trend as we know kia is going on a major overhaul so they are trying to make a world presence hence its not so far fetch if they decide to sell hybrids. Furthermore, it they manage to cement themselves as a superior brand, all the more it is ground to bring in new models. It will be expensive but if the current K5 does well, don't see why they wont bring in the hybrids.

Only thing is just the GDI engine which will be the deciding factor.

The current sale trends will need to improve much more for any car manufacturer to bring in hybrids. We're not talking about world trends here. Malaysia is a different market altogether. Korean makes have a long way to go before cementing themselves among the elite Japs. So far only the Kia Forte is enjoying record sales. Other models are just marginal. No way will Naza bring in any Korean hybrid in the near future. They also have to think about after sales support for Hybrids and NAza knows that their current breed of tech support are still behind the Japs. Maybe after 2013.

A good question to ask sales ppl is when will Kia bring in the facelifted Optima which has already been launched overseas. The reason for asking is not to get actual dates (which will never be true anyway) but to make Naza realise that ppl already know about an upcoming facelift. Might push them to start offering goodies with the current batch of Optima's.

Naza already took many ppl for a ride when they said 2012 Optima models will only arrive in April 2012, but then they started delivering in Feb already. Another lie just to push off 2011 models without any discounts. Pity those who bought the 2011 units.

hmmm we shall see as for me nothing is impossible and bring in the hybrid is not so far fetched and their market is not localize to Malaysia. Beg to differ as we are talking about world trends as the Malaysian market just holds a fraction of the pie.

hence its more of a world presence with a complete change of image and I think it the next few years if they keep up the great design and performance, Kia will be able to overtake their Japanese rivals.

SS needs to improve greatly and that is also to come as everything takes a lot of effort and what Kia needs to recognize is the real demand and supplying in all areas

Added on February 27, 2012, 2:45 pmcould you provide a link to the face lifted models as I could not find and any differences from the current generation?

They don't even wanna bring in the 2.4 Theta II. Let alone the GDI and Hybrid.

2.4 not worth it because of road tax will see little sales, the 2.0 has almost all the extra trimmings and gadgets of the 2,4 if there is any difference

the 2.0 turbo would be the best

MOST people getting a D-Segment car won't mind the extra 350 if the 2.4 is way powerful. It is the price of the car itself which results in people getting the 'slower' version i.e. 2.0 version.

exactly.. 350 is nothing much relative to paying for the price of the car
