OK, folks. Let's all take a chill pill and get back to the Optima discussion shall we? cheers.gif

Finally managed to test drive the Optima, it was impressive!

Low end torque isn't that bad. Once it goes to second gear the pick up is really good. Word is, the so called sluggishness when the car first goes in motion, is actually designed as a safety feature to prevent over-acceleration.

Handling is precise, ride is comfy(for 18" wheels), pickup is good, tackles sharp corners with confidence, ohh... love the dual sunroof!

Despite the width and length of the car, it actually drives more like a sports car as opposed to a family sedan (think Camry).

Initially, one may get overwhelmed with all those buttons on the steering wheel, center console and door panel. May take a awhile to figure out the functions of each button.

Yeah, took awhile to find out where that freakin' petrol tank lid release button is located doh.gif

For those who want a burst of power when overtaking, the paddle shifters ROCK! Gear shifts are smooth and precise. Switching from Manual back to Auto requires some horizontal shifting.

Last but not least, the Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) is really nifty too.

Just stop the car on a slope, press the brakes, slowly release it and the car will remain stationary for 10 secs before rolling backwards thumbup.gif

Overall, I would say it is one awesome car. If anyone can suggest a better alternative, do let me know! Nuff said rclxms.gif

Over acceleration, lol.

That is some god level BS to feed customers, there is traction control, what is this 'over acceleration protection',

BS or not it don't matter ler, can't blame the SAs for trying. Considering the heft of the car, the low-range power is all good.

dude the torque converter doesn't spin on it's own like a slipping clutch lah, the rpms of the engine will spin the gearbox at the same rpms also, otherwise all auto cars will have the rubberband effect where the engine revs before the car moves, i've never ever driven a conventional auto that has or even able to do that.

*
Sorry I didn't find time to reply earlier. Dude, do you even know what a torque converter is? I suggest you go and ask somebody or google it.

A TC spins freely when the car is stopped. How the heck do you think an engine remains idling and not stalling when the GB's rpm doesn't match the engine's rpm? Aiyo....buat pandai je, but actually dunno much lol.

could you provide a link to the face lifted models as I could not find and any differences from the current generation?
No physical changes. All changes are internal systems. Additional tech.

Good write up but i think we should always sound these sales ppl who feed us with crap. They need to realise that they are at the forefront of information and thus should not blindly dish out crap. Over acceleration is probably the biggest bullcrap ive heard in a long while.

Btw, what route did you take on your test drive and where did you test it out?

Sometimes we may not get these new tech. Not meant for our markets, may be for USDM only for example.

And historically, we somewat end up being the last few countries if we do get it.

Better dun put too high hopes but great if they decide to adopt the new tech additions.

Yes i know but so far what ive seen with the Optima in Malaysia is that we're getting the highest spec car. So if that trend continues, then its quite possible that we will see the facelifted Optima next year with these new gadgets. Not really huge additions & no physical changes which is good for current buyers.

a bit off topic, just saw the K9 pictures, looks exactly like a beamer 5 series.

Interior is a bit bland and steering wheel is old schooled.

Anyway, will take years to reach out shores hence shall keep dreaming

Just sent my car for first service, heard from the Sales Mgr that they are going to do a road show end of March till early April, can test drive K5 kao kao.

Btw, i lazy to DIY my sunroof noise so i asked Chan Sow Lin SC to fix it but none of the service technicians knows what's wrong with my sunroof and simply sticked a long strip of black spongy tape along the base of the sunroof. Noise still persists so i peeled it off and repositioned it as per leds' solution, haven't tested it yet. Btw, the sticky tape residue how to remove ah?

So can somebody compile the list of LYN K5 owners as per tradition?

Is there a 2.0gdi? AFAIK, for petrol mules, 2.0mpi, 2.4mpi, 2.4gdi n 2.0gdi turbo is in existence.

2.0gdi touchin 201hp in NA form is quite impressive. Not many engines in stock form touch 1:10 hp to cc ratio without the aid of a force induction.

US market k5 come in 2.4gdi (200hp) n 2.0gdi turbo (270hp).

Ah, I'm sorry that it's typo. It's not 2.0 GDI but 2.4 GDI. I corrected it.

Got me all excited. Haha.

One example is the legendary honda b series (not all) have managed to touch 100hp to 1lt ratio. But definitely we wont be gettin the gdi versions any time soon.
