Batu caves is the best! biggrin.gif

How old are you? (not need to be exact, 20s, 30s, 40s, etc)
Have you been regularly active in sports?

Hey, not every places have batu caves.

Did you know that asking a stranger how old is very rude.
Do you like if I ask you how much you earn in a month?

How many times had you climb the mountain? Think before you speak la, dude.

Climbing mountain is about strong mind and stamina.

just trying to help here, by finding out your physical condition, its okay, if you dont need it.

For your record, I have gone to Tahan 2 times, and KK 2 times as well, other rmountains, just lost count; should be around 20-30 ( thats including the same mountain over and over again)

good luck.

oops, i didnt realise the initial question was not from TS. Its very obvious why I ask the questions above.

Once I brought a early50 guy up to GBB (gunung bunga buah). he is very active insports, plays badminton, joggin, and joins marathon, but at GBB, less than 45 minutes into the climb, he turned blue-black! his heart was not pumping enough enough blood and lungs was ot expand enough to balance the oxygen.

Generall, for KK, the more fit you are the ease you find during climbing, and you could enjoy the sight while climbing, many are not fit or trained properly for its terrain, hence rushes to climb up and misses the beauty of the site.

Train your hamstring, calf and thighs. hamstring are the most important part when you are descending, most people get injured when they are coming down...

How did you find Broga Hill? Easy, Good, Hard or Very Hard? (non stop climb to 4th peak). If you find its 'Hard' then you have to work harder.
Agree with few above comment. You need to prepare your strong mind to overcome some obstacles and good stamina too. Don't worry for short train period, you still got 2 month to train. Good luck to you. smile.gif

Don't forget climb Gunung Tahan to test out your progress. biggrin.gif

i heard that if you go up too fast, since the air is thin.. its harder to breath right?
btw how do you strain your hamstring?

i wonder if the more i walk up and down the staircase.. my knee will hurt.. since i'm putting much pressure on it...
not to mention i had fractured ankles twice on each leg.. due to sports.. so i wonder what can i do to help train back this old wounds...

i've been up KK once, imo if you're moderately active, ie play sports regularly i dont see a problem. i play basketball 3-4 days a week (at that time) and i didnt do any special training and completed it no problems.

Correct, and especially if you are in the 20s, i dont see it a problem, but...but biggrin.gif the pain you have to bare after the climb, is your choice rclxub.gif

If you train well, then there is not much pain after the trip, else after the trip....will be something that you need to manage, and you would regret why you didnt train harder, but them, it wil be overwhelm by the success of the climb.

Thats based on my personal experience comparing 2 the climbs. First was the worse, but i feel, tahan was much challenging compared to KK. for KK, if you can climb stairs, then which is fine, and batu caves was our benchmark. If you are in Ipoh you could to the Buddhist temple there as well for training.

As for breathing, not everyone experience the same, some has difficulties most dont. If you do, then just slow down and take a deep breath, dont rest more than 5-10 min, coz you are going to tighten your muscles.

mount kinabalu eh?
u climb via timpohon or mersilau?
if timpohon no need to train hard la. got stair everywhere. enough with jogging every evening.
if mersilau u need to train more because mersilau quite far than timpohon route. example bt caves stairs, bukit tabur, melawati. kem lolo, gunung nuang, bukit broga etc etc.

basically timpohon to laban rata - 3 hrs. mersilau to laban rata - 5-6 hrs.

been there via 2 routes already.

good luck and have fun.

ps : got heavy rain at the peak of kinabalu when im there. no scenery at all! sweat.gif thats why i climbed twice lol.

rclxms.gif good sportsman! icon_rolleyes.gif

me, climb via mersilau...4 hrs to laban rata, as we reached there we found it wasnt too difficult, thought of doing it one the same brows.gif but would miss out sunrise....

but i would still recommend to train and dont take it easy if you dont have climbing experience, after climb soak yourself at hot spring ya...
