I would like to know will there be any difference (in terms of feel) among brown switch keyboards from Filco, Ducky, Leopold and etc.

Or whether the feel would be more or less consistent among different brands.
*
FILCOs are Metal plate mounted
DUCKYs are Aluminium plate mounted

They sound a tad different but in terms of typing feeling, they feel almost the same. But FILCOs are built much better than DUCKY. My Ducky creaks and screams when i try to flex it.

QUOTE(Top-Gun @ Aug 22 2011, 12:05 PM)
Easily Google-able.

Generally, my Filco (Filcos in general) are plate-mounted while in my experience, the Leopold/Ducky are also plate-mounted.
My Noppoo Choc Mini on the other hand was not plate mounted and only PCB mounted.

PS: Anyone wants to share shipping on the Realforce 87U 45g? I'm gettin' itchy.
And I read somewhere that if you imported keyboards (PC accessories) along with a laptop, it is not taxable?

Thanks.

Yes. It is easy to remove and remount once you are used to it. Squarebox made a video on how to do it, but not sure where that went.

Keyboards are tax free, considered as computer accessories.
Let Cyclone to comment on how he handled kastam since he did such a high value import for keyboards anyways with his leopolds.

Are the layout for the 6gv2 and 7g same?
I thought the 6gv2 has a shorter left shift, which means that the engraved set won't fit.

Ring type are awful. They scratch your keys if you are not careful. I've pulled out a switch top with Ring type before.
Wire type are better, no issues with it.

Great price indeed.
Even better price that the ducky without a top cover design.

If these are costar made, then it's a friggin good deal.
Too bad only chinese letterings. Hopefully the keyboard that is brought in won't be at inflated prices.

Thats how Ducky/FILCO/CM storm/PLU/Noppoo/POKER etc are designed
@ squarebox, is this going to feature in your collection or just a 'review' unit?

Gah just noticed by Distri Linear R Limited Edition out of stk... there goes my dream to own one mech kb...

the only key that "has" the feel >.<
*
Local alternatives include:
Leopold FC500R with MX Red coming soon anyway. Very soon. Rumoured to be RM345

Foreign alternatives with MX Red that have wire stabilizer if you don't like the Cherry stablizers on the Leopold are
PLU87
Noppoo
PLUM
or get the CM Rapid whatchamacallit with MX red coming out soon.

Good luck with that.
It's a really nice keyboard to use but be prepared to change the keycaps a few months down the road.

Damn those switches are dusty.
ALPS and dust aren't very good. What brand are your keyboards? NTC?

Mind taking a picture of the back of the keycap, see whether they are doubleshot?

that is why i say rare.

you got 2 doesn't means it's still widely available now, plus you mention it's 80`s.

Current widely available alps are Black and White version. while other colors are very rare now due to their production of such unique switch has been stop/axe. OR market demands aren't high, so these switch are considered as expensive due to the fact they need to be custom order.

Depends on the alps type. I have a board with green simplified ALPS. Still available via the ARON keyboard on taobao.

Buy the CM storm, paint it over, change with PBT keycaps = Cheap FILCO + detachable cable. Plus the MX red comes with Red backplate, very sexy.
Probably the extra keycaps can sell it off too. I'm not a big fan of those "coolermaster" keycaps.

Windows key can be remapped easily.

And the cable channel, those things has been around for ages. I have it with my At101w, and god knows how old is this keyboard.
As to making it detachable+channel, maybe it was Ducky,or is it Leopold/Archiss?

So far, i do own filco, ducky and one old IBM kb. i don't sense much different in stabilizers issue on spacebar or enter. erm, well this might be personal flavor?

There's no doubt overall quality is better for Filco over Ducky. But you can't make a statement that looks like only Ducky fails. I just google with some keywords "filco keyboard failed" and what? Tadaa~ there are cases too! smile.gif

You must be very unlucky for that Ducky unit. feel sorry for your case(s).  rclxub.gif But you're in Singapore, i cant do much help here.

anyhow, here is Malaysia, not Singapore... Local Filco selling not cheap here. but yes Leopold is cheaper which offered by Bro Cyclonechua (good job lads biggrin.gif)
*
FILCO stabillizers are the type that you get on rubber domes. Press a shift key, it springs right back up. Definitely a personal preference.

Every keyboard will also have issues, depends on how unlucky your are.
What blue keyboard failed its 'Alt' keys?
Even steelseries has got loose keys.
As to razer, that depends on how lucky you are.
My Realforce pings but I'm not too bothered by it since it pings on the 'Home' key.
The previous Ducky I've owned Pinged.
My IBM pings like a beach

The typing sensation with the white and black Ducky 9008 is different.. somehow the white feels less satisfying.. Felt softer and more linear although both being same model and carrying the same switch
*
Thats probably because your black one with browns has been broken in, thereby giving you the impression that is is better
Give your white one a few more weeks, it'll should feel more like your black one in time

Hey all,

Does anyone know where can I get those Cherry Doubleshots keycaps?

Start a WTB thread in Geekhack, or scour Taobao. Need to ask each individual items since some are not in stock even if they are listed

Permanent markers aren't permanent.
Yes these keycaps are not cheap. Rm100 per set shipped or more

It depends on how much keyboard poison you have taken. The more it is, the more you are willing to spend tongue.gif
