Hi bro
you didnt sent the faulty unit to Singapore?
Where do you stay actually?
*
Very expensive to ship, and it's just a broken LED. Post Laju quote me RM60+ for the ship.

Stayed in Cheras, I thought I just wanna have little fun after all.. haha never opened up a mech keyboard before

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Sep 26 2011, 10:06 AM)
I've come across most LEDs to turn on at about 1.3 - 1.4V. so 3Volts might be good enough. But you can try 1.5V on your working LEDs and see whether it works or not. I may be wrong on the turn on voltage however.
You probably can source replacement LEDs easily if it is confirmed to be broken?
*
Let me try on this project later on, just a mini one to start with hehe.. Have all the tools but not really knowledgeable about fixing things

well, i think they will still provide you with support even you did void your warranty, but have to pay for spare parts since you buy from them and replace it i think.

btw off topic, storm88, please give me your bank details, i'll bankin you for sending back the ducky keyboard to me.
*
if it's the LED faulty I guess i just ask my supplier to buy for me, easier in that way.

I just realised we share pretty much similar rig haha..

Actually QC is how stringent your standard is, there's nothing to do with country. If you ever dealt with Perodua you would know their QC standard is stringent like hell. Worse than Toyota and Honda..

I'm sure Dell long ago stopped assembling these mech keyboards though. That model's dated 1990.
*
The company my father work in bought over Dell's Penang manufacturing plant back many years.

I just measure the resistant of my LED
Scroll Lock and CAP Locks = 12 M ohm
Num Lock = 3 k ohm

looks like the LED is abnormal.. just back from a long drive..

Update: I don't know what I did, use battery try to light up the LED, use multimeter and poke here and there.. and... It lights up now.............

i don't think it run on 12V,  that for sure will burn it i not sure how u measure it.

Regular PS2 or USB power device are running on 5V only and i test my LED before the 5V are being low down by a 10k ohm resistor to 1.4/5 v to power up the LED at numlock, caplock and scroll lock (each LED have a 10k ohm resistor).  I do test my the main power source of my Keyboard it only run at 5V.

If u say 12V ur keyboard need extra power from a adapter already not ps2/USB.

USB Standard Pinout

LoL 12V is 10 times over 1.2V already. i also doubt if that LED would sustain such voltage at first.
anyhow, it seems like you had your LED working already
*
It comes to me that it's not easy to spoil a LED actually.. You might find uneven brightness LED but if you were to find a broken one, or one initially working but after that turns broken. It would take up a lot of effort

QUOTE(CyntrixTech @ Sep 27 2011, 12:56 PM)
Voltage does not kill LED! It's the current that kills it. A resistor is usually soldered in series with an LED to control the current flowing through the LED. To match and LED's brightness, you can measure the voltage going across a sample led and attempt to match the current going through the one that you are replacing.

Connecting an led to a low voltage, high current source to an LED without a resistor in series would burn the LED out immediately.
*
That's right.. I am not sure the current inside a battery.

Most LED control by current instead of voltage.

Example of the lighting LED with your car rear lamp (Myvi).
During tail lamp (on as idle during night time), the input will be 12.8v, 50mA
During tail lamp (on as you step on your break), the input will be 12.8b, 90mA

The reason is that LED work as a diode, only specific amount of voltage will pass through when you apply them (name as forward voltage, Vf)
But I am not sure if you connect a 240v, low ampere input what would happen

I would say Mionix and the new cooler master keyboard is a worthy consideration too.

I lost a bit of confidence with Ducky after opening up the board.

GJ remembering my existence thumbup.gif I'm back in Msia now so yeah I'm a little more active in the forum than before. I still have like 3 boxes of brand new KSC75 in my stock pile brows.gif I don't doubt they will destroy Kave, and what not but eh, new generation likes beats lol.

I didn't go too far either, but when it comes to audio, price and money has little correlation to quality once you go above USD300-400.

Keyboard I dunno la, I haven't gotten my hands on it but I'm a mouse and kb junkie, trying not to let the devil loose.
Mionix looks good, but it doesn't do PS2 even with an adapter, and "only" 6 key roll over on usb. Still waiting for an MX red with backlight. Too bad Corsair decides to skim on some keys.

Added on September 27, 2011, 9:33 pm
didn't know this was available. Do they have mx red/
*
Sell me some KCS75 lol, they still have exactly the sound signature I like, mine was broken back few years.

I can let u try my keyboard if you are interested lol.. I don't even know what is Beats until now, I hope it's a decent product and not another BOSE like product

I still wanna try the keyboards! Which part in Cheras are you at?

@kaiserreich

Probably to make the USB ports active so that they don't draw power from the mobo
*
I'm near Belakong, the Cheras Selatan Jusco. But I only have brown and red switches with me
hehe, KCS75 is still my preferred earphone at that price range, cant complain much.

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Sep 27 2011, 11:03 PM)
10 only. Our fren cyclone bring in 50 sets of Leopolds
If got lubang for the CM keyboards remember to inform people here first.  tongue.gif Especially the red switch board. Rumoured that SG distro not bringing red switch to SG.

The pricing for CM keyboards are rather nice. But the Tenkeyless part is not really attractive. You can see that most of the FILCOs coming in are 104 keys one. Even the Multicam, only has 104key for Malaysian market. The price is acceptable, but the options, well, maybe the market does not know who FILCO is.

CM, and Corsair, I am guesstimating with figures outta my behind, would probably sell nicely, comparable with Razers.
*
I think cyclone actually brought in 50 sets (blue, black, red and blue)
I still forgotten to bank in RM4.50 to him.....

Conclusion:
From all the evidence found, Cooler Master Storm QuickFire is basically a refined version of the Filco 87. The FN and multimedia keys are well thought out and placed without affecting the overall usability. At it's price point, it's a STEAL with it been packed with features and quality compared to other mechanical keyboards in the market. Apart from the over-branding, it's a sure-buy for anyone who wants to get a mechanical keyboard.

Score : 8.5/10
*
Excellent review, find myself tempted too now haha..

Blue switch is prone to more troubles because of the double action, since there's 2 levels of bumps (physically), it requires more precision during manufacturing. It's very difficult to detect minor defects during manufacturing (again.. white colour MX switches). Since the movement of switch during depress is so minor, little bump or cut here and there will greatly affects your typing experiences.

Due to the double action, it simply means louder sound, defects magnets, and also shorter life span. You can refer to the Japanese Link I shared earlier, there's a picture of each MX switches

I haven't use any braided chord before, I tend to find them more towards aesthetic purpose than practical usage. Maybe for mouse = yes, according to review braided means you can move them around more easily.

I rarely need to move my keyboard around once I got them in a comfortable position.

I usually rest half of my keyboard on my mousepad as I have a giant cloth mousepad. Meaning it's slightly tilted towards left.

@jian5481
After I bought my macbook air, i realised without numpad it's not so bad either. I'm not those accountant which need to do a lot of figure entering either

Is there such a gathering? haha
I don't think i would bring my "keyboard" to anyway, it weights like 25~30kgs... Carrying from downstairs to upstairs feels like killing me already

Personally wristpad is good to have but not mandatory.. If you put a mouse pad infront of your keyboard your would feel quite comfortable too.

Most probably you felt discomfort during typing is that your keyboard level height.. I believe most people put their keyboard on a standard table (74cm) which is mean for writing rather than computing.

I am not sure if you remember in those day, computer desk basically consist of 2 levels
- upper for monitor,
- lower for keyboard and mouse

they looks ugly but since CRT is almost impossible to have height adjustment, it's rather necessary.

For my solution, I buy a standard table with adjustable height, lower it slightly, and jack my monitor stand higher.
Another solution is that you buy a adjustable chair but jacking it too high might cause your feet to lift off from the ground which cause discomfort too.

Some test I decided to do today,

Connect Leopold FCR500 to my MAC (OSX 10.7.1 aka Lion)
It works as oppose to what it state in the box
Not sure how to test NKRO under MAC
Windows key will turn into apple key (command)
Print Screen, Home and End key does not work, no ways to switch off numlock
F11 become show desktop (not sure what key is that)
F12 become 4 finger swap
F1 - F10 become non functional (or actually does, not sure)
Scroll lock became F1, Pause became F2

On Ducky 9008, use Fn+F11 turns the keyboard into a mac layout (super nice for mac user)
The 4 shortcut key, calculator, my computer, mail and home button doesn't work
Everything else is the same as leopald

Connection over USB (PS2 is long gone in Apple hardware)
Will test on linux when I have the time.
