QUOTE(WSL999 @ Aug 22 2011, 07:59 AM) A good mechanical keyboard last almost forever.. So for once and all, bear the pain and you will be happily ever after. Poison is poison la, but if you are not a collector then just don't buy it.. after all maybe a good keyboard only helped to again another 5 WPM.. |

I would like to know will there be any difference (in terms of feel) among brown switch keyboards from Filco, Ducky, Leopold and etc.
Or whether the feel would be more or less consistent among different brands. |

Filco for the springy Shift/Backspace/Enter keys (known as Filco stabilizers).
Cherry/Leopold for the cherry stabilizers (or satellite stabilitizers?) I prefer the Filco much over Cherry's design. Other than that, most of them should be the same. Full NKRO can only be achieved over P/S2 so most of the keyboards should suit you if you're only using USB.. and P/S2 is non hot-swappable as far as I'm concerned. Then there's the difference of plate mounted vs PCB mounted. The latter being easier to produce and also easy to desolder out switches for repair or changing other types of switches. Plate mounted keyboards have a more sturdy feel (still quite subjective if you type very light) but the resonance of the keystrokes are more 'muted' and maybe 'deeper frequency'. |

QUOTE(kianweic @ Aug 22 2011, 12:01 PM) Easily Google-able.Generally, my Filco (Filcos in general) are plate-mounted while in my experience, the Leopold/Ducky are also plate-mounted. My Noppoo Choc Mini on the other hand was not plate mounted and only PCB mounted. PS: Anyone wants to share shipping on the Realforce 87U 45g? I'm gettin' itchy. And I read somewhere that if you imported keyboards (PC accessories) along with a laptop, it is not taxable? Thanks. |

DUCKYs are Aluminium plate mounted They sound a tad different but in terms of typing feeling, they feel almost the same. But FILCOs are built much better than DUCKY. My Ducky creaks and screams when i try to flex it. QUOTE(Top-Gun @ Aug 22 2011, 12:05 PM) Easily Google-able. QUOTE(Top-Gun @ Aug 22 2011, 11:59 AM) Filco for the springy Shift/Backspace/Enter keys (known as Filco stabilizers). Erm... regarding the Filco boards, can we remove its larger keys like "shift", "caps lock", "enter", "spacebar" and etc just like how we remove its normal keys? Because based on what i read in geekhack, the larger Filco keys are held down by its own Filco stabilizers (the metal rod-like thing) and is famous for its notoriously hard to remove and remount nature....Cherry/Leopold for the cherry stabilizers (or satellite stabilitizers?) I prefer the Filco much over Cherry's design. Other than that, most of them should be the same. Plate mounted keyboards have a more sturdy feel (still quite subjective if you type very light) but the resonance of the keystrokes are more 'muted' and maybe 'deeper frequency'. So what i want to ask is, how do we remove the larger Filco keys? With the Filco key puller? QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Aug 22 2011, 12:48 PM) Huh? Meaning buying keyboards from overseas (Taiwan, Japan, US and etc) are tax-free? |

Yes. It is easy to remove and remount once you are used to it. Squarebox made a video on how to do it, but not sure where that went.
Keyboards are tax free, considered as computer accessories. Let Cyclone to comment on how he handled kastam since he did such a high value import for keyboards anyways with his leopolds. |
