I just got UNIFI installed. The modem, router and HyppTV decoder is in the hall. I am thinking of installing the HyppTV in my room. Instead of using a really long ethernet cable, is there a wireless solution?

may i "tumpang" here as well smile.gif

My modem and routers are all on the 1st floor and my TV is on the living room ground floor is there a cheaper way to connect the HyppTV set to the first floor?

will it be cheaper to get:

a) a very long ethernet cable or
b) buy a router and link it up to my other routher (as per sekinnie's recommendation)
c) buy power line plug (i'll need 2 right? 1 each for upstairs and downstairs)

Wireless router bridging isn't a good option for IPTV because :

1) It's hard to debug issues with the bridge unless you really know what you're doing (what if your bridge is intermittently going up/down, doesn't forward IGMP requests/replies, doesn't forward multicast streams, etc.)

2) You need a separate pair of wifi routers to do it (one connected to the VLAN600 port on your RG or BTU and another connected to the IPTV STB)

3) IPTV is very sensitive to jitter and there's a high chance it will screw up your video quality

Would recommend homeplugs or a long ethernet cable as a suitable option

i think in this case, option c is better.
very long ethernet cable is ok, but u need nice cable management to hide those.
wireless also ok but im thinking about the line quality, since its wireless, mybe got interence and it need to handle big bandwidth.
power line plug should be good in handling high bandwidth without using wire in this case.

just my 2 cent

I have tried using wireless repeater bridge to link up HyppTV but found that such a set up is unable to handle the required bandwidth (got only ~6 Mbps throughput). So I set up a pair of Aztech homeplugs instead. Works great!

so meaning buying 2 powerline plugs (those from Aztech) is the safest way but yet is quite costly (RM100+ each)

may I know anyone who uses HyppTV instead of Astro? Im planning to cut my subscription with Astro and use HyppTV only as my family and I rarely have time for Astro tongue.gif

any feedback on HyppTV? notworthy.gif

I'm also looking for hypptv wireless solution. I want to:

1. Transmit AV/HDMI signals wirelessly from my hypptv STB to a second TV in another room.

2. Remote control the STB from the other room.

MSB Tech had solutions, but unfortunately they are way beyond my budget:(

Anyone have any better and cheaper alternatives?

I'm currently using a pair of homeplugs (Aztech TPLA 211) in 2 different rooms. I have to manually unplug and carry the set top box + remote to and fro between either one room, which is getting pretty tiring soon sad.gif

Homplug 200Mbps is enough but you need to plug in directly to wall plug. Unifi HyppTV HD is only ~ 10Mbps.

hi i got a question about the home plug.
like most of you all, im placing my modem and router in the living hall while i wanted to watch hypptv in my upstair room. so i amlooking for aztech homeplug to use it. my question is:

1. will the home plug work if i plug it on the extension plug?
2. does the 3 phase electrical system which is common is most household now will cause a problem? or must i conenct them within the same phase of electrical system?

please enlighten me!

Yes,and I think it will depend on the model of the wireless repeater,my wireless repeater will hang after long hour of use therefore using home plug or long LAN cable is more feasible.

Yes,it will work. But do use a high quality and new extension plug.

If your house is using 3 phase electrical system, should be any problem.

TV end: -- H X X X
