Sportage Jadi Model Kia Paling Digemari Pembeli UK Sepanjang Mei

KENDERAAN utiliti sukan (SUV) bukan saja semakin popular, tetapi sudah jadi segmen penting kepada pengeluar. Contoh terdekat, tempahan Proton X70 yang mencapai jumlah puluhan ribu unit walaupun berharga mencecah enam angka.

X70 benar-benar membantu survival Proton selepas jenuh bersaing sengit dalam segmen A dan B. Situasi ini tidak berlaku untuk Proton saja, cuba lihat atas jalan raya, model SUV Porsche seperti Cayenne dan Macan lebih mudah ditemui berbanding model dua pintu jenama itu.

Jenama seperti Mitsubishi pula sudah menghentikan tawaran sedan dan kompak di pasaran tempatan dan kini menumpukan keada SUV dan trak pikap sahaja. Edaran Tan Chong Motors (ETCM) pula sudah mengumumkan tiada model pengganti Teana.

Bagi pasaran tempatan, di celah-celah populariti X70, Honda dengan CR-V dan HR-V, Mazda dengan CX-5 dan CX-3, dan Nissan menerusi X-Trail, ada kalangan pengguna memilih Kia Sportage.

UV buatan Korea Selatan itu memiliki pakej menarik dengan saiz antara HR-V dan CR-V. Walaupun jualan Sportage ketinggalan berbanding model popular lain, SUV ini popular di Britain. Buktinya, jualan Kia Motors (UK) Limited pada Mei lalu mencatatkan prestasi baik, iaitu 7,279 unit dengan Sportage saja terjual 2,564 unit.

Sportage memang laku keras, jualan SUV itu sudah melebihi 5 juta unit sejak dilancarkan pada 1993, dan lebih sejuta unit disumbangkan Sportage terbaharu. Jualan Kia tahun ini pula mencecah 44,705 unit, meningkat 5.6 peratus berbanding tempoh sama tahun lalu.

Jualan Kia meningkat 8.3 peratus ketika pasaran automotif di Britain jatuh 4.6 peratus. Paten jualan Kia menunjukkan prestasi bertentangan apabila model kedua paling laris ialah model mini, Picanto (1,287 unit), manakala tiga model lain yang mengisi ranking lima teratas ialah Ceed, Stonic, dan siri Niro.

Dari segi ranking pengeluar di Britain, Kia menduduki tempat kelapan dan dalam masa beberapa bulan lagi akan melancarkan model crossover baharu, XCeed. Sebagai perbandingan, jualan Kia untuk pasaran Malaysia setakat April lalu ialah 1,640 unit dan menduduki tangga ke-14.

I had the 2011 GT, which is the 1st batch CBU of the previous version.
Sold it last year with mileage about 130k.
It’s a good and reliable ride, other than the normal wear and tear, with the normally reported issue being the aircond compressor after a few years of usage.
My main complaint is the hight FC as it is an Awd.
For my mixed drive, with full tank of 55L, I was only getting 350-400km.
For comparison, on my 2018 CX-5 2.2D, although it is a turbo diesel and Fwd only, for the same route, my mileage is about 650-700km for 56L tank

It is value for money, but there are a few versions of this 3rd generation Sportage, SL variant. try to look for the one with L shape fog lamp which is newer (see photo). So far, no major issue with the quality except for the aircon. Do check if the unit you are buying has no problem with the AC unit.

This is the one with Nu engine right?

Another thing to check is the sunroof motor and rubber lining.
As I didn't use sunroof that often, before I sold my ride, the sunroof was stuck half-way and wouldn't close.
I could hear the motor whirring sound but the sunroof appeared stuck.

Luckily I managed to get it closed before handed it over to the 2nd-hand car dealer.
Last time the SC guy told me the newer Nu engine is more economical than mine Theta engine

No, this is 1st facelift only and still on the Theta II engine. The Nu Engine one is much newer and more expensive with more improved features. You can easily recognize it by the mesh-type grille and the new rims, and LED combination lamp, instead of bulb type

Probably just need to lubricate the sunroof railing/mechanism only. As with anything, when you don't operate for too long, it won't work too smoothly. This is not a major issue, as don't hear much complaint about the sunroof malfunctioning.

Normally the major complaint are the aircond compressor which I was worried too coz during the last 2-years ownership, I had to refill the gas every 8-9 months or so although my mechanics couldn't really find the leakage

Kia Motors Corporation plans to make Malaysia the regional manufacturing hub for the Kia vehicles in Asean and other potential markets.

Kia Asia Pacific president and chief executive officer Ted Lee said the South Korean carmaker had recognised the vast potential Malaysia would bring.

Kia had found it timely to raise the bar to progressively tap into Malaysia's potential, Lee said at the signing of a joint venture agreement with Bermaz Auto Bhd (BAuto) to form Kia Malaysia Sdn Bhd here today.

For a start, Kia Malaysia will undertake the assembly of completely knocked down (CKD) of three Kia vehicles.

The first two models - Kia Seltos and Kia Carnival - are expected to be produced locally within 12-18 months.

The third model will be determined at a later stage.

Kia is the second largest carmaker in South Korea, and together with parent Hyundai Motor Group, is the world's fifth largest automotive manufacturer.

On the potential investment into the CKD operation, Yeoh said it would take about US$20 million to set up the production line of a product.

He also said that Kia Malaysia would help address the after sales issues faced by Kia owners under the previous distributor.

Kia has appointed BAuto's subsidiary Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd as the new distributor of its vehicles in Malaysia.

As the new distributor, Dinamikjaya holds the right to distribute and sell Kia vehicles, CKD and completely built up (CBU), sale of genuine parts as well as in the provision of after-sales service and to build Kia's brand reputation and awareness in Malaysia.

Elaborating on the new partnership, Lee said Kia had chosen BAuto after months of searching for the right partner.

"With BAuto's proven capability in successfully building up automotive marques in Malaysia and the Philippines as well as their automotive manufacturing experience, we believe we have placed the Kia brand in good hands under the capable leadership of its."

Tae said BAuto was a renowned listed automotive company in Malaysia with a strong management team and good track record.

Yeoh said Kia vehicles were well-known for their stylish looks, packed with smart features, frequent facelifts and new launches that keep prospective buyers excited over its products.

"The partnership will complement our existing automotive businesses and we look forward to a successful collaboration with Kia," added Yeoh

anyone here using sportage diesel? how the ownership experience? im considering getting a second hand sportage 2017 and above especially the 2019 facelift model.

Anyone installed side steps before? Any drilling needed or got existing holes to install it?

Depends on the design for the side step and also your Sportage model. Some design does not need to screw directly onto the car body, but instead , they use a clamping mechanism onto the lower car body, where there are pre-existing mounting site.
