I'm not intense, I bust cases wide open, laying bare the reality of things. I am by nature a pessimist, and by being a pessimist, I look at things objectively and realistically, rather than optimistically and pining on false hope. The only console that has proper local warranty is Sony, and that is because they have a physical presence here. But even then, a lot of those who had YLOD their PS3 either open up their PS3 themselves or go to stores like Gamers Solution who does third party repairs. Why? Because, again, the turn-around time is too long and repair time promised to them are vague enough for them not to proceed with the RMA.
Malaysia is not like the US/UK/AUS/NZ. Customer is always last. My previous case with Panasonic plasma TV I purchased made me draw a general conclusion of the state of "local warranty" in Malaysia: There are none. My plasma was busted less than 24 hours after I received it, and a normal common-sensical response to this from the dealer would be to replace one-to-one, since it was less than 24 hours of use. The response? "We send repair man first, we check first" and delays upon delays, that I only got a working REPLACEMENT Panasonic plasma (which they should've done in the first place!) only after a WEEK after I made payment. My plasma isn't the low-end one, it's flagship, and I get treated this way. I very nearly drag that dealer to the consumer tribunal court, if it is not for him pulling through in the last second. And this is from a person getting a flagship model. Imagine if you get a middle or low end? Would they even bat an eyelid to you?
Moral of the story: In Malaysia, you bloody make sure your purchased item works BEFORE it leaves the shop/warehouse, before it arrives in your house. Once it does, the onus is on the owner to chase multiple entities around in circles just to get what is rightfully yours: your Customer Rights.
