Those have OTA is users has flash their ARC unit to Global/Nordic rom. If you use others then if not mistaken the OTA still not available... you have to use flash tool to flash your rom.. please refer below

Manage to root my friends arc using gingerbreak.
But firmware stuck 2.3.2.. tried to update by ota, but SE forced to use pc..

Any other simple way to update to 2.3.4 n still retain root without using flashtool?

flashing, unlocked bootloader etc is just too much to do...i dont have that much time...
i was doin a quick favor for a friend of mine... if its my own phone, I'd hav done all these long time ago  biggrin.gif

anyway, thanks for the link.. but I was looking for someting simpler like root 2.3.2 and use OTA to update to 2.3.4 while keeping the root... since OTA is not available in MY, i was wondering if all u ARC users which has been following this thread since the beginning knows any tricks to over come this without the need to flash...

nonetheless, my friend is quite happy with his rooted 2.3.2 for now.. all bloatware removed...phone become snappier..
*
the link I provide is a method to flash official roms... without unlocking bootloader...
currently only nordic rom have OTA thus able to retain your root.

Thus you need to flash your arc using flash tools.

Once you have flash your arc with nordic rom, you use gingerbreak to root and OTA till you get 2.3.4 updates...

I believe that is the simplest method to retain 2.3.4 rooted and locked bootloader... otherwise... just wait till you received OTA on your firmware... happy.gif

Not sure whether my has release OTA... For those using nordic rom has received the 2.3.4 OTA n by update using OTA, owner can retain their roots...

Please read previous thread on how to get 2.3.4 n retain roots

Fyi, not all apps n games can be remove to microsd... If not mistaken...

I've managed to flash CM7.1 with out having any issue... (seems there's battery drain... but not confirm yet)

The way I did from unlocking bootloader till flash CM7.1:
- Flash using flash tool to LT15i 4.0.A.2.368 Generic Global
- Unlock Bootloader
- Extract the boot.img from the CyanogenMod update.zip and copy it to the same folder as fastboot (the /tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
- Disconnect the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc from the computer and power it off.
- Download CM7.1
- Unzip it and copy all the zip file frm the 7z you've downloaded into your microSD
- Press & hold the Menu button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to the computer.
- On the computer, open terminal and run the following command:

fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce reboot

- Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side Volume Rocker to move around, & the Power button to select.
- Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
- Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
- Select Install zip from sdcard.
- Select Choose zip from sdcard.
- Install the CM7.
- Install Google Apps.
- reboot.

NOTE: IF YOUR CONTACT IS IN SYNCML/SONY ERICSSON SYNC, PLEASE COPY YOUR CONTACT TO GOOGLE BY PERFORMING BELOW STEP:
- Go to Contact
- Setting > Backup Contact > choose memory
- Setting > Import Contact > choose gmail account
- Once you have successfully installed CM7.1, it will autosync the contact from gmail contact to your phone one you have setup the google account.

You can refer steps from XDA-Developer as well.
