Better book online or once u are in Taipei, 1st thing, goto main station and prebook 2 days earlier.. Even I bought a day earlier at the ticket counter, most of the express seat for Tomorrow trip almost full dy..I was lucky that day but too bad on return trip, no more Taroko express seat & even no seat ticket - I was on standby normal train meaning.. if the seat already prebooked, I hv to vacate for others...My family hv to switch few times during the return journey to give way Once I hv to sit on the floor!

I planned flying Taiwan next month. which totaled up about 8days. Arrived at TPE at 1st day night!

Planned to bring around RM2.5k to spend there excluding flights and accomodation. Do u think thats enough for 2 pax? for the first 3 days, most of the activities already expenses paid except meals.

Just some more info:

I booked the train ticket online. They start selling the tickets 14 days before departure.
There's 5% discount if u book online and pay by credit card. Another 5% if it's a return ticket. Total 10% discount.

If u want to take the express train, it's better to buy the tickets early. Easier to plan your trip.
You'll need to print out the booking information and collect the tickets at the counter.

Depends on the no. of people, hiring a taxi is recommended.
The Tarako tour will take roughly half day plus including the walkways.
If u finish early, you can ask the driver to bring you to other places.

The tour bus is like tourism board approved package, they have a special NT$1100 coupon for 3pax/3package, valid until 31/12/2011. The websites below are in Chinese:

Not necessary, the trip is less than one hour (36-48mins, depending on the type of train).
I think the train has a few cars for free seating.
You just have to change seats if the seat has been sold to someone else.
Taipei - Ruifang can use easy card.

Only those long journey trip is recommended.

If no more seat tickets, you still can take the "Stanby ticket" which mean standing-lah haha.

Wonder any where got low exchange rate? Don think wawasan open yet. Gotta watch for better rate as I heading to taiwan next month...

Departure to Taiwan is not a problem since uts evening flight. I can use kl sentral, bus to lcct.

You need to check the train no (車次) first, Taipei Station - HuaLien Station : http://twtraffic.tra.gov.tw/twrail/
自強 is the express train, some take longer time, need to study the search result.

Then use the train no to book the tickets here : http://railway.hinet.net/
Foreigners must use the English website. Return tickets must be booked separately.

Use the booking no and pay the tickets here : https://ticket.chinatrust.com.tw/railway/index.php
There's an option to pay for return tickets. After paying, print out the ticket collection form.

The websites have quite clear instructions.

Ringgit Malaysia is even worst if you change in Taiwan if I'm not mistaken. If you do not want to change to USD & thereafter to NT$, might as well change all RM to NT$ in KL. Anyway by switching to RM>USD>NT$ only will save you RM30-RM40 for every RM1000 you change. So if you do not want to be troublesome, change all RM to NT$ locally. RM is very rare in Taiwan..well except in Taoyuen airport
