Oh, does the video run smooth with/without DXVA ? How's the CPU usage ?
*
After updating codec, I can play the 4K video without DXVA & without BSOD. However, after enabling DXVA, when playing no video but only sound. I think I'm missing codec(s) or filter(s).

Added on August 24, 2011, 2:20 amOK. Now getting worse. After updating codec, video will run in ssslllloooowwww mmmoooottttiiiioooooonnnn when subtitle loaded.

Please ignore the ssslllloooowwww mmmoooottttiiiioooooonnnn video. I just reset the codecs settings & everything is back to normal for non-4K video.

These are 4K video playback result
With i5-450M + GT335M + without DXVA:-
CPU: 42% - 51%
GPU: 26% - 28%
Result: Smooth playback.

With i7-720QM + HD5870 + without DXVA:-
CPU: 35% - 44%
GPU: 91% (due to HD5870 working at x1 link only)
Result: Micro-lag playback.

With i7-720QM + HD4570 + without DXVA:-
CPU: 40% - 57%
GPU: 44%
Result: Smooth playback.

Same here. Fortunately, I don't have to go office at 8 a.m. But I still need to wake up early. Sometime, Saturday & Sunday also working. Go there & there. Sometime go home at 2 a.m. - 3 a.m. or the next morning. Guess what is my job? biggrin.gif

No la. I'm System Integrator, System Engineer, IT Consultant. Working with private company, so can use any name. I deal server, system stuff. "Go there & there" - means visiting sites. I don't need to go to office frequently. My home also my office.

u can play the 4k vid w/o BSOD? what k-lite codec version u using now?
*
I fed up already with 4K+DXVA. tongue.gif Anyway, you don't actually need to use DXVA to play 4K video. If you got strong processor, you can watch 4K video smoothly. On my notebooks, without DXVA, it play smoothly. Only sometime micro-lag a bit. But after I re-installed codec, it lag a bit more but still a bit smooth.

BTW, after countless reinstalling codecs, I'm still unable to play 4K video with DXVA on both of my notebooks.

You can use "4K Downloader" to download 4K video from Youtube.

There is another way. You can find "clear password" video on youtube.

This notebook have UEFI. Not my expertise. If you want to experiment, I can provide a test BIOS for you.

kizwan, SXPS 1640 got anything interesting hidden on the BIOS ?
Last time I checked, I didn't find anything worthwhile to unlocked (performance related). The only performance related is dual-IDA. Dell BIOS did not locked EIST. So, you can use ThrottleStop to activate dual-IDA.

Using MPCStar (i like the auto play list feature):

With i5-460M + ATI5650M:
CPU: 20% - 25%
GPU: 0%-15% (but GPU running at 550 / 800), it's clearly more active than running in browser
Result: No micro-lag, but LAG from time to time!
*
That not use DXVA. Latest MPC-HC can use DXVA automatically when the video file required it (e.g. anime) but with 4K video you need to force it. You can follow this website:-
http://imouto.my/watching-h264-videos-using-dxva/
Ignore the unimportant procedure. The only one important is blocking the "ffdshow Video Decoder".

Are you sure? This is experimental only. It might bricked your notebook - a.k.a. become expensive paperweight.

that's y i dunno those stuff cos i watching anime or movie dvxa will auto run right? i long time ago already following this web dy. we really need block it & skip all levels?

For watching anime or any other video, no need to follow the website. MPC-HC can auto-use DXVA when the video need it.

u wait lee reply u. c he did it a not? i bet he did it.

lee_what can use dual-IDA because it have Core 2 Duo. Your notebook processor does not support dual-IDA.

I can try to unlocked hidden menu in UEFI but it is experimental.

u play dvxa? i no display but smooth on audio wor. if w/o dvxa FS then mirco-lag on vid & audio awhile no sound then ok liau.

I use K-Lite Codec Pack 7.60 Mega version. On my notebooks can play 4K video smoothly with sometime micro-lag without DXVA. When I forced DXVA, I only got no video, only sound. Sound is smooth though. For anime, I can play 720p to 1080p anime/video without any problem using DXVA (automatic).

No, I didn't try beta.

If I play 4K video with DXVA with freshly installed codec, I also got BSOD. After reset codec to recommended settings, I got no video, only sound.

Yeah, I did the Dual- IDA with undervolt as well, paired with DIY fan, temp controlled fine..

Last time I google ATi with 4K, seems like mostly get BSOD amd said that didn't support 4K playback via DXVA..
*
I tried on my A42JV also no display, only sound when using DXVA. Did I do something wrong?

Tried it on MBP 15 Core i5 with GT330M, it play smooth, if switch to Intel HD then it will lag..
*
I think because Optimus but don't know for sure since with both Dell & Asus I got the same result; no video, only sound.

Oh, did you tried the nVidia 280.26 ?
Asus N43Sl did the update and seems like the nVidia is turning off correctly and reduce the power consumption from -10W to -7W..
*
I did but didn't check discharge rate with previous driver to compare. Now discharge rate without doing heavy work is -24024mW or -24W. Is this figure OK?

Added on August 26, 2011, 2:19 pmWait a sec. It fluctuate from -14W to -24W. Look like background service(s) use power a bit.

Added on August 26, 2011, 2:21 pmLowest is -11.946W.

It won't feel the same anymore whether you put double tape or glue. Buy replacement from ebay if warranty already expired.
